iPhone SE. Great phone, fits easily into front pocket of jeans or shorts or into shirt pocket. Easy to use one handed for calls, internet browsing etc.

No need to upgrade now. If Apple does not produce a somewhat similar sized new phone soon then I will bite the bullet and upgrade to a bigger size but due to Apple pricing in Europe I will go Android.

I am not sure what I am going to do. I am on the iPhone upgrade program since the iPhone 7 Plus. Last time I kept my iPhone for two years, paid if off and got the new one which I thought was idiotic. If I was going to pay Apple all the time for my Phone, I may as well have upgraded every year. I likely won't see the NEED to upgrade but if the new XR has the same camera as mine, I may do so to lower my monthly. First world problems.

Currently on a 256gb iPhone 7, it's still running fine but needs a battery replacement and I want a better camera. Potentially upgrading to either the "11" or "11R" or a refurbished/cut price XS/XR!

I have a release day X (256GB) that I'll be keeping for another year. I paid the phone off over a year ago and had the battery replaced last November (currently at 95% capacity). This will be the first time I keep a phone for over 2 years - back in my Android days, I used to swap phones every few months. Since switching to the iPhone in September 2014, I kept the 6 for about 18 months, then upgraded to the 6s Plus in February 2016, which I kept until the X was released (around 20 months). Based on the leaks, I'm not particularly impressed with the upcoming iPhone, so I'll wait and see what 2020 will bring.

Likely not upgrading this year. And I’ll tell you why. I’ve had large smart phones for over the last four years, (Plus/Max), but I have reached a point where I don’t like carrying it in my pocket, it’s intrusive and consumes to much space. I plan on downgrading to the rumored 5.4 inch iPhone Apple may release in 2020. If I need a larger display, I’ll just resort to using my iPad/laptop, etc.

I'm in the exact same boat with an iPhone 7. Waited for 3 years already - I've been itching to upgrade for the past year for a larger screen and a much better camera. I'm usually on a 2-year cycle but I held off because I thought that 2019 would be the big-refresh year so I'm disappointed that it looks like Apple is moving to a 3-year cycle now and it'll be 2020 for "the big one".

I don't think I can hold off for yet another year, so I'm probably going to get a new phone this year regardless and then just re-evaluate next year.

I should have added, I am thinking of changing as I have a love/ hate relationship with my XR! Love the screen size but hate the physical size, and Face ID annoys me sometimes. But I’ve never been a big phone person.

PS. Already upgraded. Pixel 3a XL.
As long as you are happy with it and aware that non iPhone technologies especially their operating systems are more high risks of being hacked than iPhone due to the OS is built on open development environment. Non iPhone is not recommended by IT security professionals. Just be cautious.

Good lord. What a statement. Millions and millions of users around the world are using non-iPhone devices without being hacked. I hope you don't believe Tim's "what happens on your iPhone stays on your iPhone" false marketing.

At first my husband and I planned on downgrading from the XS Max to the 11R but what we decided on was paying off the XS Max and selling it to the highest bidder and then using the funds from that to put a huge down payment on the 2019 Max. We’ll probably pay about 70% at the store to get a lower monthly payment while my in-laws upgrade to 2018 XR using the discount my husband’s job provides.

I don’t think my husband’s can survive without having the newest iPhone. He’d get jealous of anyone else getting the new phone. He’s the one who says he won’t upgrade but when the new phones are introduced you’ll see him setting an alarm for 2:50 a.m. to pre-order the new phone. ;)

I have an XR and my wife has a 7. I will upgrade and give her my XR. Not sure which model I'll move to. I really like the XR but I am envious of the camera on the XS.

iPhone 8 Plus currently. I will likely upgrade to one of the phones announced this September. It depends on the configuration of those three camera lenses and what photo & video specs are included. I have various cameras for taking plenty of photos and videos, but none of them slip into the pants pocket like a phone does. The other new features will influence the decision also but the latest camera specs are right near the top of the list for me.

I have a 7 Plus (256GB). Pretty good chance of upgrading, just because my battery is starting to falter and I'm running out of space (big ripped CD collection that I like to listen to on the subway). That said, I can't imagine spending $1,500 on a new phone, and I'm not really feeling that inspired by any of the rumored hardware upgrades.

Well…all my iPhones and my iPad are jailbroken so, yeah, I'm familiar with the responsibility for my own security. I've been jailbreaking since late 2011 and have never depended on Apple.

You also have to understand how I use my phone. Due to choice of profession I am surrounded by computers (both desktop and laptop) 24/7. I don't use my phone(s) for anything more than phone calls, email (if a Mac isn't handy), texting and light web browsing of specific websites (if I'm out and not near a computer).

I am also not in the habit of handing my phone to anyone. 98% of the time I can be found at work, at home, at Walmart getting lunch/dinner or on the freeway. So, any attack vector to physically compromise my device is extremely limited.

In short, I don't have a life and what life I do have is dominated by access to technology that is better at what I want to do than my phone is. Consequently, I don't use my phone like most everyone else does and when I do, it's limited.

I'm not a big fan of the current "X-Series" iPhone design language so I'll be sticking with the 8 Plus until something interesting and attractive comes along.

Currently using launch day XS Max and have no plans to upgrade for another 3-4 years. None of the rumoured upcoming changes, (5G, USB-C, more camera lenses), are of any interest to me. Now if there were to be a light (I don’t use wireless charging so metal back is fine), iPhone with 5.5-6” 16:9 LCD screen, no bezels and FaceID coming, then I would be interested - very unlikely I know. As it is, for me, the most interesting thing about 2019 phones is the new lavender XR.

Currently on an iPhone 7 256GB. I still like it a lot. Absolutely no complaints on performance. It's lighter than the iPhone 8 which is nice and the haptic home button is good, too, even if I do occasionally lament the lack of headphone jack. If I didn't need a reliable spare phone for an upcoming trip, I wouldn't update.

It's kinda funny. In our household right now, we're all happy with our current devices and are actually, hmm, not quite "dreading" but more of apprehensive when it comes to future upgrades.

iPhone SE (mom)
iPhone 7 x2
iPhone XR

My mom, especially, absolutely does not want a bigger phone.

I have a launch day Xs which I'm relatively certain I will be keeping for another year (possible two). I need to get off the yearly update kick.
