I'm fine with charging every night. I charge my iPhone, my iPad, and my kindle every night. Just part of my normal bedtime routine.

If I can use the crap out of it without it dying in 16 hours, that is fine and I'll charge it every night. BUT I would rather get 2 days of course.

I would be very surprised if any of the more fancy watch designs will be able to last that long with constant use.
The only way we are getting the battery lifespans we have now, which are poor, is due to the fact the devices are effectively off 90% of the time.

Most sports watches/activity trackers (minus GPS) can usually last 7 days, some more. If they want to compete with the activity tracker/sport watch market, they should hopefully have a couple days worth.

AMOLED will help with battery life, still need to see if Apple is going to provide an always on mode or not. With the size of the device do we think that Apple can fit a battery that is larger than 400mAh (size of the battery in the LG Watch)?

Honestly, I'd like as much as my Jawbone.. and for some reason I thought Apple was going to pull it out of the bag and say with everything it does, we'll get 3-5 days.

But, if its wear in the day; charge at night. Then I'll need at least 16 hours. - I want to wear the Apple Watch for every waking minute.

General opinion seems to be they did not want to say anything about battery life as they know it's bad.

You speak about the positive aspects of your device, you keep quiet as much as possible about the negative aspects of your device.

Obviously they are going to have people working on this very issue right the way up to the last moment, so that when they DO publish battery life, they know they've made it the very best they possible can for the very 1st model out the door for early 2015.

They will have people working on optimizing every dam tiny little thing, stopping anything running they possibly can, that really does not need to be running.

As they phone it needed, the watch can be almost dead until it's woken up and pulls data from the iphone.

It would be nice to think they are going to amaze everyone, and they've optimized it so much that it blows all other similar devices away with it's battery life. that will mean everyone else will have to up their game also, and be good for all consumers of all products :)

One day is fine with me. That's what I had on my 360 after the new update. My phone gets charged every night anyway, I don't mind my watch as well.

I could just about live with recharging every 24 hours. I charge my iPhone 6 every two days and my iPad every three days.
Varying lifestyles means that 24 hours is crucial otherwise we would be carrying chargers around all day. What is also important is how long the watch would take to charge from zero to 100%.
I am sure that Apple want to market the watch as an essential everyday piece of hardware and not just a device for occasional use. That's why they are working so hard to try and increase battery life. Don't be surprised if they delay the release next year.

How do you like the pebble? It seems like a lower cost alternative.

I love it. It does just enough to stay useful without promising to do everything.
I can keep my phone in my pocket, or out of reach but still get notifications and see if they matter enough to actually answer. Using google maps while biking is great because the push notifications go right to my wrist and I can find my way.
Its waterproof so I can use it swimming, and not have to worry about it getting wet. Its not there, but there at the same time.

Only thing I wish it could do is invoke siri. When I'm driving and have my phone in my pocket it would be nice to use siri.

Do you charge all the devices in your home that use a battery every night?

If not, would you like to ?

No I don't charge my devices every night. I only plug in tablet when the battery is under 14%, so I don't need to be afraid that my tablet shouts down and I don't hear my morning alarm. My phone I never charge at night, I only plug it in right before I go to work. It gets about 20-30% really fast.
The apple watch would be something different to me. I would need it all day at work, so I would need to charge it every night, but thats not a problem for me. Right now Im sure if im buying the apple watch or wait for the second generation watch because I don't have even a iPhone yet.

These watches should be more about data collecting and notifications than about the display, which is what will be the biggest battery killer.

I can get two work days out of my Fenix 2 with Bluetooth turned on at 8am and off at 5pm. I think it makes sense to have the ability to switch between modes like that and something Apple should include.

Does a watch really need the ability to display photo's? For a screen that size, I don't think it makes sense. A grey scale maps app might save a few points in battery life and could be just as useable.

If function is prioritised over design, this device might be more practical than I expect it to be at version 1.

the time inbetween not using your watch.
i doubt the screen will be on 24/7? or does it?

Some of us are hoping it has an always on mode. It is super annoying to have to raise your wrist just right to see the time on Android Wear. Or have the device light up your car while driving at night cause it thought you wanted to see the time. Hopefully Apple won't have that same problem.

It already has the screen, no reason for it not to display photos (except that more screen on time will drain battery life faster, but you can always choose not to look at photos on your watch).

I'm curious to see how the map is implemented. with such a small space, it would make sense for the watch to display only the next one or two directions, not the full map plus turn by turn. If that's the case, they can essentially do it in black and white.

If it has an always displaying time mode (always on) then 18 hours. If it doesn't have that mode, then 24-36 hour battery life would be ideal.
I want to say it's already been said the screen will be off/asleep, until you flick your wrist and it "wakes up"

Even in that manner, I'm hoping I can use the watch from 7AM to 11PM without it needing a charge.
