I use Windows on my gaming build...

My life would simply be less enjoyable if I had to use Windows for anything beyond gaming.

It's "ok"...and that's about it.
I deal with it, but don't really enjoy it like I do macOS.

This upgrade cycle:

The equation weighting (price x performance x OS x build quality) came out in of favor the macBook Air M1 for me.

The new Dell XPS, Surface Pro X and Surface Laptop 3 were all close contenders.

Next refresh, a windows laptop might come out on top; it was pretty close this time around 🥳

There’s nothing (and will be nothing for a very long time coming) in the Windows world close in performance to the M1 Macs in the same class category. You can thank both Intel and AMD for that.

My only challenge to that is the Asus Zephyrus G14.

Its a3.5 lb magnesium alloy body, 14” screen, Ryzen 4000 series CPU, Rtx 2060 graphics etc and cheaper than a MacBook Air or pro if you were to atleast match the config on the memory and storage.

Maxtech compared this exact laptop to the new m1 and it was neck and neck for most of the tasks. The biggest win for the m1 is definitely the battery life and the performance while unplugged. That they are definitely way ahead of everyone. But on the same token, the g14 blew it out of the water for anything graphically intense.

At this point, I’m just going to hold off until next month when a lot of the new laptops for the year get announced. Wife handed me a envelope full of cash for Christmas and told me go nuts lol.

I guess that depends what else your using a laptop for. I don’t use one for work, this is purely for personal use.

Ten years running dual boot Win and Mac on Mac Pro along with 3 DIY PCs and I was burned out, Mac Pro is big, hot, loud. Went for MacBook (2015) but it was getting too limited and battery issue (always plugged into power, dock, 27" monitor and disks) - and I didn't need a laptop, I'm fine with Surface Laptop 3 (previously owned RT and fed up with their 2-in-1 Surface Pro attempt).

Very happy for once with Windows now with latest couple release builds. Probably pick up SL4 and/or Duo 2 nextyear.

I pondered getting m1 Mini. I didn't want Big Sur though. I was gun shy about m1 version 1.0 - maybe later. And the Intel Oct 2020 Mini in i5/16/512 configuration is faster booting, runs smooth as silk, no issues running Windows natively. I entertained upgrading RAM if need be to 32 or even 64GB. Whatever benefit the m1 offers I doubt I'd see or feel difference, though there were problems with my setup and 11.01 with slow boot, monitor not coming on instantly, sound out to LG monitor - stuff that shouldn't happen / didn't when using MacBook - and why maybe 11.4 may be again MacOS sweet spot.

For $1300 I felt for me the configuration I ended up with was ideal, and m1 would have to wait.

For those that need dual booting still, I definitely understanding sticking with Intel Macs.

In fact, there should be amazing deals to be had now and moving forward on Intel models.

For me, just occasional virtual Windows is perfect on my Mac machine and I'm all in on M1 at this point.

On that note, I've been very pleased with the early Apple Silicon Parallels and ARM Windows 10 software preview.
It's working like a charm for my very limited Windows needs here and there.

iCloud sync of actual opened tabs too?
Yes, if I understand you correctly then this is what I meant by "Recently opened tabs in Safari are accessible in Safari on all devices."

So if I have tabs opened currently, or in some cases recently opened and then closed, on my M1 MBP and then I go to my 2014 Mac mini then when I open a new tab in Safari on the Mac mini I see the tabs from my M1 MBP.

Same with tabs I currently have open on my iPad mini - I can see those open tabs on the iPad mini on my M1 MBP and Mac mini when I open a new tab in Safari on those computers.

That is exactly what you should do - determine what is important and buy what you can afford that gets you what you want.

I love Macs, but I do have some Windows and Linux computers (although they are pretty much gathering dust for now).
