Okay, I’ve already seen The Fly (1986) and The Fly II (1989).

I think the Cronenberg film is a masterpiece. I enjoyed it a lot, doesn’t try to picture the main protagonist as the good guy, and the antagonist as the bad guy. It breaks some conventions in that sense. Conventions that the sequel tries to revert.

I’m glad I watched both movies consecutively, because the second movie, despite not being as good as the one directed by Cronenberg, it gives some kind of closure to some stories that somehow were left open after the abrupt end of the first one.

I have t watched the original 1958 movie, and I don’t know if there’s any modern remake either. I admit I watched the 1986 one because of my sympathy towards David Cronenberg, but the story is quite compelling.

Now, my next movie will probably be Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain. See you in the other side!

I saw it a few days ago, it felt a bit long, so I watched it in two phases as well, thanks to its structure.
I concur, the acting is not the best, and the character Viola Davis plays is one of the best.

I didn't like it as a Hunger Games movie. I mean, within that referent frame, I still prefer the movies from Katniss. The original saga was, at least for me, more entertaining, developed a bit more the characters (without miracles) and was a bit more deep and enticing.

Yeah, the fact that it is a prequel maybe gives a different and more interesting view of this universe, but even that, in my opinion, could have been used in a much better way, giving us more than a shallow view at the Panem of the early post-war era. Although maybe those limitations came from the book itself.

But, other than that, it is pretty entertaining to watch during an afternoon.

The offspring want a series of short stories about all the main characters "games". So one about Finnick, Annie, Mags (I did learn that Mags games are the year after HG:BoS&S), Joanna, Haymitch, etc. Not movies, just short stories.

The 1958 movie a fly caught in a spider web yelling “help me!” and the 1986 movie both elicited feelings of dread, something impressive for horror movies to do. 🤔 Happy New Year! :)

Saltburn.

Initially thought it was a very well made retread of previous movies detailing a poor student getting sucked in by a rich fellow student. Excellent acting, especially the main character, and great sets. And then it became quite different. No other movie surprised me as much this year.

While Saltburn had me in its clutches from the very start this one took a long time to develop. For those who like interesting characters, figuring out what makes them tick and watching them change over time. It has a great (emotional) payload at the end.

Klaus Kinski was a tremendous method actor, apparently a royal pain to work with. Yet his portrayal here is second to non. Isabelle Adjani also shines. A salute to the great German Expressionist films of the early 1900's.

This one is a good watch, you know what to do...

I thought I heard it sucks 🧛‍♂️

Today I opened an account on Letterboxd and Filmaffinity.

I haven’t been able to select a cool username. It sounds weird. And on Letterboxd I cannot change it in a year.

On the other hand, I still have hundreds, if not thousands of movies to rate on both platforms. Ugh.

That's the problem with older movies, with the newer ones I can usually tell if I'm going to like it or not. The old ones might look very promising, sometimes they are really good, sometimes they are ridiculous like this one.

imdb have lists of the top rated movies of all time.
i think casablanca, gone with the wind, shawshank are all up there.
i wonder what they'd rate as to bottom 10 worst movies of all time?
competition would be fierce 🧐
I would vote for The Creeping Terror. With an IMDB rating of 1.9. Has to be seen to be believed. Plan 9 from Outer Space and Robot Monster are also often mentioned but they are so much better than The Creep Terror.

I would put "The Blair Witch Project" on that list. Definitely one of THE STUPIDEST movies I've ever wasted my time on! 😁

No, no, no. It would have to be "12 to the Moon". The only Science Fiction film I turned off in disgust as a teenager. And that was somebody who thought that "The Crawling Hand" was ok....
