I saw Rebel Moon. It was OK. And not the Star Wars ripoff everyone keeps saying, except maybe for the fire swords/light sabers. Though the world and everyone in it were so grimy, I felt like I had to take a shower afterwards. It was also shot very darkly. Like everything was in perpetual nighttime.
Something that annoys me no end with quite a few modern shows.

I see you point except for:

Hero starting on a farm

Going to a bar to look for a ride and ending up in a fight

Parent-sibling relationship between the main villain and the story’s hero

Big fight between hero and villain high up in a tower after the good guys were betrayed by one on their comrades (OK that is from the Empire Strikes Back)

Most of the remaining “original elements” came from Seven Samurai (or if you prefer The Magnificent Seven or Battle Beyond the Stars).

But it was still a fun watch

I finally watched this last night.

IMHO Typical Zack Synder stuff, example his extended directors cut of 2021 Justice league, his earlier Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice offers some similar dark scenes.

Rebel Moon did have some great action sequences, and the sound track would be tour de force if it arrives on media. Yes it's a bit depressing nightmare like sci-fi opera, but he really knows how to make things seem dark and gritty like the motherworld storm troopers that oppress beings where ever they go.

I just got done watching episode 1 of "John Adams." I have seen it many times. It is an excellent mini series.

I recently saw it riffed on RiffTrax.

You know, it's really not as bad as people make it out to be. It's for kids, don't compare it to the movies.
I had the betamax in 1978
then vcr‘d that in 1982.
in 1996, that was burnt to a dvd
in 2004 handbreaked
in 2011 copied on a 32 gb thumbdrive ssd
in 2016 placed in a deposit box not in this country

with the 3 original starwars firms.

i never saw that from front to finish
(failed today)

I think that Bladerunner is meant to be perpetually dark, both physically and metaphorically, for it is an expression (visually and cinematically) of a sort of dystopian world.
Except the venue made it too dark with city lights around us and lousy window mounted speakers. We were there for one reason, an infant sleeping in the back seat. 🙂 It took me a while after that to appreciate the value of the story. Bottom line, an overly dark atmosphere tends to be a negative for myself to work though or maybe not.

These days, while I appreciate the exploration of the human condition though the perspective of Roy Batty, I prefer Bladerunner 2049 as the better presented story though Deckard, K, Joshi, Morton, Joi, and Neander Wallace. Ironically it was not what I expected either at first. And while I won’t hold my breath, it opened the door for a replicant rebellion, which as compared to what came before it, this could be difficult to accomplish and keep the audience happy, and by no means is any such story assured.

Children of men

The scene with Julianne Moore and the guys on the bike. That scene is incredible. So sad and so real.

On a lighter note, watched a few Christmas movies over the holiday.

Scrooged
The Man Who Invented Christmas
A Christmas Carol - Mickey Mouse version
A Christmas Carol - Patrick Stewart version
Die Hard
A Christmas Story original and the new one. The new one, pulls on the strings!
To name a few.
