Being a fan of musicals I have been working through the "That's Entertainment" movies. 1/2 of the way through Volume II.

That's Entertainment! - The Complete Collection (2020) copy.jpeg

Had no idea that there were so many versions of "Singing in the Rain" over the years. Only knew about the famous Gene Kelly version.

Discovered many musicals that I had never heard of such as 1934s' "Merry Widow".

Has some massive ballroom scenes which probably couldn't be done today without CGI.

This scene was particularly memorable a bit later when the hall was completely filled with dancers.

maurice chevalier was an absolute legend.
france’s dean martin w/o the booze.
i doubt very much, however, that one of his more memorable songs would ever see airplay today, though i’m sure it’d be the hum-along song for the fella currently in your big white house on pennsylvania ave.

the fellas you speak of were also in white militias of the time.
same here in australia.
our trackers for the police in colonial days, some also carried shooters.
the amended control reason later was to obviate criminals in the 1930's from getting firearms.
as in Public Enemies (to keep this on topic

It was too subtle, now I see it. :p
actually, i’m revising my opinion of the beekeeper.
statham is excellent as always, though his best role by far was as turkish in ‘snatch’.
great fight scenes, mostly.
the other actors are hampered by poor dialogue, average direction and weird casting.
some of the poses for the camera shots are very hammy.
the south african villain character is so clunky.
having seen it twice, it’s not a movie i’d bother to watch thru again.
5.5/10

The African Queen (1951)- This movie is mostly powered by the growing relationship between two characters, but I always enjoyed it even as a teen. Bogart and Hepburn have outstanding chemistry on screen. The setting is WWI Africa, (Congo?), a River boat (a very meager river boat) captain and a missionairy’s sister escape the intruding Germans by taking a dangerous trip down the river, which includes a very questionable plan to sink a patrolling German ship on a lake.

I appreciate the update. He is not my favorite action star. Transporter was descent.

In College (circa 1972), I had an appreciation for musicals when high on grass. It struck me as amazing when one minute they’d be talking, and the next they were, sometimes large groups of them, dancing synchronized. Incredible! 🥳 That is was why I appreciated marijuana because of the new perspective it gave me. I’ve often said if they legalize it were I live, I’d try it again, but it’s a toss up today if I’d like it or not. 🤔 My consumption of alcohol is negligible.

This will probably be the last movie of Woody Allen. I watched all the movies he made, of course when someone makes more than fifty movies, some of them are bound to be horrible but all his works after 2000 were good in my opinion, so is this movie.

I've been watching all the episodes of Aus der Reihe Derrick with Horst Tappert, Fritz Wepper and Willy Schäfer.

Classic crime drama. Tappert was really brilliant.

unsure what a classy lady like hepburn saw in an alcoholic chain-smoker like bogart.
then again, most ‘leading men’ were like that in those days …
