HA! So did I !I did. Came home from work yesterday and started watching. It's much better than I remember.
I think I'll watch Knight and Day again this evening.
I tune up Netflix and start scrolling through the choices, and for every 19 rejects there might be 1 “let’s try this”. What irritates me a bit are the categories such as “based on your viewing habits you’ll love these”, some I might love, but most not. Or “This zoomed to number eight in the first week of release on Netflix!” But when I go check Rotten Tomotos, the feature got a 35% audience rating. 🤔More the shortsightedness of quick gains from streaming, the pandemic was merely the catalyst; video tapes, then disks were a significant form of income for the studios frequently building cult status. That's all going away, no thx to non physical media and the greed of the few.
Upshot is we have never had more content to watch, yet the quality of new releases is questionable at best. Films & TV series have become the battle ground of directors, show runners & writing teams personal politics, not a function of entertaining the paying public. This process has destroyed longstanding franchises, splintered fan base's so a very few can patronise the greater majority, who now no longer care...
The good is such a trajectory is unsustainable with studios suffering flop after flop with budgets in the hundreds of millions. First rule is to write & create for your audience not your own personal sentiments or to massage your ego. Audiences will return to theaters when studios once again produce good films on a repeatable basis, not just once in a blue moon. Above all else quit with the social politics as for the most part it only serves to turn off the audience...
People in general also like to own physical content, so they can watch as they please. Studios either need to wake up to this or more and more will simply raise the flag and take to the high seas...

Knight and Day has become one of my favorite movies because it’s lighthearted, fun, unpredictable (airline sequence), humorous elements, music, and action that is well suited to Cruise’s action persona. And of the Cameron Diaz movies I’ve seen, regarding her performance, this is her best, even better than Something About Mary.I did. Came home from work yesterday and started watching. It appears that AI is driving the recommendations on sites like Netflix and Youtube. For example, we watched one (1) video on tents and one (1) video on RVs, and now that's all we get recommended.
The problem is not that it's AI but AS (Artificial Stupidity) that is driving so much of this.
I’d describe it as approaching or mimicking AI, as far as in a very limited, basic manner it’s making recommendations based whatever the criteria it was fed. As far as I can tell it makes recommendations based on criteria like 1) genre, 2) if it’s popular, and 3) possibly other criteria like particular male or female star, setting, time frame, etc, and other adjectives applied to a title, based on posted reviews.Yeah, I don't think we've achieved true AI yet, those companies try to portray it like we have, but its all still just computers and programs.
The last movie I saw was Dune (2021). I actually was not a fan. I read some of the book in middle school, but the movie was kind of boring. Not sure I'm excited for Part II.

The Old Guard (2020)- A small group of people have immortality, and have affected history, frequently with violence as they shape events in this action, thriller. It’s ok, the story is competant, but the atmosphere is a bit oppressive, maybe depressive is a better word. I did not great vibes or satisfaction from it.
A sequel is reported to be released this year.

I liked that one too.![]()
I really enjoyed this one. Neo noir...crime thriller? I guess...
Yup and it's sad, given the hope I had with the new characters which was wasted, especially John Boyega's character Finn. Still not over that. Also, the best SW series by far, Andor, is linked to this film.Rogue One (2016)

The direction the franchise should have taken, Rogue One is by far the best Star Wars film since the original trilogy was released. Vastly superior to the last trilogy which should be simply scrapped as a social experiment gone wrong...

I love this film but was pissed how it ended. They could have at least created a trilogy for these characters. It could have branched off. There was a series of books written. But remember how Disney disavowed much of the existing SW cannon?Rogue One (2016)

I recently rewatched Andor, so good! I can’t wait for the second season. 😄Yup and it's sad, given the hope I had with the new characters which was wasted, especially John Boyega's character Finn. Still not over that. Also, the best SW series by far, Andor, is linked to this film.
That was epic! Not often we see this kind of uprising in cinema - also loved how none of the normal SW villians were shown, only Palpatine was mentioned (he was the emperor after all). Also notice among the members of the secret police there were only humans?I recently rewatched Andor, so good! I can’t wait for the second season. 😄
But we were sleeping. I've been sleeping. And I've been turning away from the truth I wanted not to face. There is a wound that won't heal at the center of the galaxy. There is a darkness reaching like rust into everything around us. We let it grow, and now it's here. It's here, and it's not visiting anymore. It wants to stay. The Empire is a disease that thrives in darkness, it is never more alive than when we sleep. (Spoiler source)
I look at it this way, better the ending of Rogue One than it be driven into the ground by the same crowd behind 7,8 & 9. They have seriously damaged the franchise in serving their own personal agendas that no one asked for or wanted.I love this film but was pissed how it ended. Maybe in the continuing search for profits, they’ll do this for episodes 7,8 and 9 and start over where they picked it up. Can you imagine if they said, ok our lack of creativity, $$$ grubbing mistake, 7,8,9 never happened, here's what really happened. Not holding my breath.![]()
Yes, but didn’t they have some droid help? 🤔🙂That was epic! I recognize that both sequels and trilogies face dangers, the temptation to take short cuts, or just a lack of enough creativity to pull them off. However when I become enamored with characters, I want to see more of them with the premise that the more will be good.I look at it this way, better the ending of Rogue One than it be driven into the ground by the same crowd behind 7,8 & 9. More money such endeavors loose the better, as the investors will step in sooner or later. We the paying audience might then just get back to solid entertainment not someones wet dreams & personal ideologies...
