Spent over 20 years in SE Asia and will likely never leave. Been to the artic down to the equator and a good deal more. Our children share my wonder lust, daughters is studying in Malborne, son is working on a business in Xin jiang. Spent three years there and would return in a heartbeat... Life is for the living

Sounds very exciting and valuable experiences for your children. Well done. I envy that you execute what others, myself included, typically dream about. When it is all over you will not have just visited this world.

I’ve not travelled too much but intend to visit Israel despite the current situation. Also on my list are the WWII venues. For now it is just too difficult to crave out the time. See what I mean? Old habits are hard to break.

As for movies, I planned to see the 70th Anniversary of Rear Window with Jimmy Stewart today but my afternoon isn’t looking too good. I even bought 4 seats already. Such is life.

That's how to do it. Though some folks are homebodies...
Guess it runs in the family. My grandfather was on the whalers at the tender age 15 years, lied about his age and fought in both world wars. I served myself, 15 for the queen then the adventure really started... TBH never looked back and life has never been better.

Was always a given with me as too much of Jack (grandfather) in me. So no surprises our kids followed suit. I dont plan or think, I just do as life is too short to do otherwise...

Flight into the forward base, no cameras allowed on the helo as we penetrate deep into the jungle...

Big as birds, harmless very gentle in nature. Others can and are very dangerous, so a wise man checks his boots in the morning :p

Just outing my field watch so it can grab the GPS data, here in Shenzhen.

Is experiential, you have to be and live in a place to fully understand. Was it all worthwhile? for me resoundingly yes and I'd do it all over again. Those that want the only thing that's stopping you, is well you...

As for films have a fair collection. I backup all disks to HDD or if on the road a selection on SSD. Rear Window is in there with many other Hitchcock films, would love to watch on the big screen

nobody is making good movies these days.
crime dramas with comedy - pullease.
all the good films are from 5 years ago and earlier, with the exception of Maverick.
i'm happy to be proved wrong …
Studios are now too scared of the backlash from the vocal minority. So we as the paying public are stuck with it, the answers very simple. When studios return to serving the general public then they will see my coin. They can keep on burning countless millions and hopefully go bankrupt.

I have my own library that predates all the current nonsense so I dont remotely care... Talking years of playback so not going to get bored anytime soon...

Read further down, if you dont like your not compelled to read. If a member asks a question or makes a statement I'll respond. Point of a forum is conversation, slapping a screenshot is as meaningless as it gets. Even the worst of films deserve a few words...

'slapping a screenshot is as meaningless as it gets' …
oh, the hairy arm with the blurred watch face - that kind of meaningless?
yes i agree it's a forum for conversation - about movies/fillums.
not helo rides and jappo street scenes - unless you're intending 'the last samurai' screenshot …

Apparently Nvidia was training it's AI on 80 years of films per day.

So they went through every movie still existing in less than 2 days?

So long as you know the words for washroom and McDonalds you should be ok...

and "check please".

Always wanted to see Antarctica

Fascinating place. The drastic weather change that happens when you cross the 60th parallel, mucking through penguin poo ...

Too many good movies to list. American Fiction, Bullet Train, The Holdovers, Oppenheimer, Barby, Dune I and II are just a few from the top of my hat.

The Holdovers, yes.
the rest … meh.
bullet train - stupid
oppenheimer - intellectual highbrow.
barbie - don't get me started.
dune 1+2 - even the original book was a bit pffft. (herbert was never especially a well structured author and there were better novelists in his era).
sorry to pour cold water on your list …

Furiosa was an ok movie, fun to watch but I would say it is not as good as Fury Road. I don't find the Furiosa character all that interesting myself. Thankfully they did not do the girl boss thing with the character, everything she did seemed realistic ie no taking on a giant man and win in strength against him.

Thanks for the recommendation but I will pass. I put this and Dune into the same clunky, pointless, can’t wait until it’s over category. They weren’t terrible and I can understand how fans of the sagas would like them though.
NP, however note, Fury Road is nothing like Dune. To lump them together is a huge mistake. I will say that Fury Road is not a deep story, just an escape, a sound, amazingly choreographed chase story. Your loss, if you like the genre, but at this point, I don’t think you do... 🙃
