I love classic fiction but always tended to go for stories where the outcome for the main character was a little bit more cheerful. :D Looking at the plot of the original, purists will notice some differences in the film (as there usually is) - the ending is not quite the same as the book. It's one I'll happily watch again though and I'll also have a look out for that 2002 version. 👍
Ref: Count of Monte Christo. I don't off hand remember if I've seen other versions but I want to say I saw an old one. The most excellent 2002 version stars Jim Caviezel, Guy Pearce, Richard Harris, James Frain, Dagmara Dominczyk, Luis Guzmán and Henry Cavill in one of his earliest roles.

In college I fell in love with 2 Alexander Dumas novels, this and The Three Musketeers (Les Trois Mousquetaires, 1844)

The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)- A great telling of this story.

The Keep (1983)
1734535268774.png

Recently remastered in 4K. A long-lost holy grail for lovers of obscure horror, previously only available on VHS and an Australian DVD release, as well as a not great UHD scan of a 35mm print. Michael Mann's The Keep is a tantalizing, visually gorgeous, constantly interesting mess. A mix of war movie and Lovecraftian horror, and a dash of Indiana Jones, about an ancient demon released from its prison inside a mysterious fortress, and a seemingly immortal man who is destined to stand against it.

This one if you've read the book, you will get a lot more out of The Keep. The included commentary is also worthy of your time, especially if not read the book...

I have my Christmas with my girls and grandchildren on Christmas Eve DAY...we do presents in the late morning and then all go out to lunch. That evening, the kids spend with their father and his side of the family so I have Christmas EVEning alone. This is when I watch my favorite Christmas movies, those being "Love, Actually" and "The Holiday" with Jack Black, Cameron Diaz, and Jude Law (it's kind of corny; definitely a chick flick, but I like it). Christmas morning I watch Ralphie and his Red Rider BB gun while I enjoy a cup of coffee or two with a touch of Bailey's in it.

This year may be somewhat different as I am going to be living with my daughter for awhile when she gets out of the hospital (God willing, she'll be out for Christmas) and it will be my youngest granddaughter's first Christmas!

Do you have a favorite Christmas movie that you routinely watch? I'd love to hear what it is!
Happy Holidays, everyone. ❤️

Two Christmas movies I’m vested in: A Christmas Carrol (1938) and It’s A Wonderful Life (1946).

A brilliant story, It’s A Wonderful Life generates an emotional response from me every time. It shows the best, worst, and in between of humanity.
