I don't remember much from the book, it's been too long. The 1984 movie was boring. When Part 1 came out I had the same feeling - boring. Avoided part 2 but it was time to watch it. So I thought I'd do a double feature. What can I say, seeing part 1 for the second time, it worked much better for me and so did part 2. I think they changed some stuff from the book (Chani/Paul), but I'm not 100% sure. On my rewatch list before part 3.
You thought the 1984 movie was boring? I saw it in the movie theatre in 1984 and thought it was great. I never understood why people didn’t like the "inner voices” of the characters or that they were upset it didn’t follow the book exactly. I agree that the ending and love story are horribly rushed. That’s the only flaw I see. For 1984, it was pretty damn awesome. I guess you had to be there.

The new movies look very bland and dull - from all the clips I’ve seen. They make me not want to see them at all.

Yes I thought it was boring. But it's been a while, so might have to rewatch it. Didn't like part 1 at first either, so maybe it's the same with the 1984 movie. I have not seen it theatrically, as I was too involved with computers back then, so movies were not a priority. I've seen it sometime between the mid to late 1980s. I'm honestly not sure. If I remember correctly I gave it another try in the 90s either on Laserdisc or DVD, but it's been too long. As I will rewatch part 1 and 2 before 3 I might add the 1984 movie too.

I'd recommend part 1 and 2 for the visuals and audio alone, if you have the right system. If nothing else, you get some nice demo material.

Ah, so you were around in the 80's. Yes, I was programming computers back then too - but I somehow found time to watch a movie or two. ;)

Prime Video: 28 Years Later

Rewatched the first two and the third for the first time. All ok-ish. Yes, first was a low budget film, so it stands out. Second is the same thing, just on a higher budget and the third just feels like they wanted to show what happened all those years later. Second half of the movie is better, but still not great.
