B&H: $249.99

Crucial: $285.99

I ordered my 27" iMac from Apple yesterday and got two of these 32GB kits from Amazon. Hopefully everything works smoothly. Would love to hear from anyone who got the same and how it's working out.

Is there any reason to pay the Apple tax and get the Mac version of this memory which Crucial says was specially tested on the Mac vs the standard version here?

So.. I was going to buy 32GB Crucial kit (BLS2K16G4S240FSD) for iMac 5K 2017 but at the moment there is nothing left .. all sold out in Poland. What should I choose? Kingston HyperX?

Looking at buying my first iMac soon. And definitely will be upgrading the RAM. I'm considering buying the RAM ahead of time before I pick up the iMac. Truthfully I prefer to have 'matching' modules. Is it possible to buy the factory 8GB Apple RAM from somewhere besides Apple at MSRP $200, or is ebay the only option really? I run a PC now with 4GB of RAM, so 8GB should be fine, yet I'd like to start it off with 16GB.

I bought mine on eBay for $55 shipped, 8GB OEM Apple Micron RAM. They are exactly the same as ones that came with my new 27" iMac. I've seen it as low as $35 but I'm a Buy it Now person. :)

Just received my second 32GB Ballistix Sport from Amazon today. Now 64GB Ballistix memory in my iMac. Benchmarking shows only slight improvement, nothing to notice in everyday use (from 40GB to 64GB).

But the package was slightly different, from first (left) to second I bought (right).

Has anyone tried filling all four slots with the Kingston HyperX ram?
How does that work, any problems?

SO after reading through this thread, I'm trying to decide which 32GB kit to buy and I'm more confused than anything now....so some help please!

I understand the HyperX only works solo, and I want to use the stock 8GB of ram to get to 40GB total. SO HyperX is out.

Ballistiks seems to work well, may be a good option at $287 on amazon.
OWC seems overpriced according to everyone here at $330.
Other option is Crucial...

Would you go Crucial or Ballistiks, which is made by crucial/mircon if my understanding is correct. Thanks for any input!

IMHO you won't see difference between 32GB and 40GB of RAM. For me it's hard to fill 32GB RAM while using Photoshop and Lightroom with 5000 RAW files... and even if SSD is sooo so quick that scratch file would make no difference. But that's my opinion.

Another member and I here were discussing factory RAM in the new 2017 iMac. I just picked one up today and the RAM in my mid range model is as shown:

Their RAM in a loaded model looks like this:

Does anyone know the difference between these?

Essentially I'm looking at grabbing some more factory RAM and I'm often finding people selling theirs since they did upgrades out of the box. Just confused on the different types I'm finding since I'd prefer to have matching pairs.

@shinseiromeo I am the same way. I wanted to match the RAM from the factory. I bought a pair off eBay before my iMac arrived and fortunately they are the same brand, Micron China. My machine is i5, Radon 580, 2TB Fusion Drive. I am happy with 16GB right now. When the machine slows down, I'll upgrade to 64GB.

I bought 32Gb of Crucial (CT2K16G4SFD824A Crucial 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) SODIMM 260-Pin) from Amazon to take me to 40Gb. It's working perfectly.
