Then why not be happy with your air?
I am trying to decide what to keep. The air is a great tablet but the 60hz screen is annoying. Watching videos with the huge bars at top and bottom is annoying. The dull color saturation is annoying.

The Samsung has a better screen with more vibrant colors, 120 hz adaptive refresh rate. The 16 x 10 aspect ratio has smaller bars at top and bottom but it is no where near as fast as the air and Android is just not as good as iOS. Battery life is also better on the S8.

So I am really torn. I have an iPhobe pro max with 120hz and coming from it I just have a hard time when scrolling but I am not spending $800 plus tax or $759 plus tax on any tablet that I only use for media consumption and web browsing.

The hardware on the S8 is just better and I get double the internal ssd and four speakers instead of two. The air has the M1 and iOS.

But then you have to deal with the Android virus OS.

Ha,ha. Yes the snooping Google. However Android is not terrible just like Windows is not terrible but the experience on iPad OS is better.

I am OS agnostic though and don't just stick to any particular OS. I use Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.

Apple makes the best software hands down but sometimes they lock things down too much and it is always nice to have a contrast from time to time. Considering what I will be using the tablet for the OS is not as important. If I was creating content or drawing on the tablet then iPad would win every time no question.

I use Windows at work but besides that have no experience with the Android virus. I did however have a Blackberry back in the day.

I have no problem with Android, so with billions of people who use Android. I am alternating between Pixel 4 and iPhone 12 in quarterly basis. I don’t understand your hate towards Android at all. Your statement about Android is ignorant.

Blackberry OS was a virus compared to iOS. I have seen people use android. Why should I trust using it over Apple?

I have the Air, and I like it. It's just about the perfect size for a tablet. Didn't need the Pro's features, don't care much for FaceID, don't like how flimsy the screen feels on the classic, didn't want big bezels.

You think iOS is not tracking you and Apple is a saint? I understand people like one thing more than another and we have a right to our opinion but your opinion on Android the more you talk about it seems a bit biased and ignorant. Apple doesn't care about you other than taking your money. Not to long ago they were going to include a "feature" using AI to search for child pornography on your phone without your consent or knowledge and it was baked into the software. No one like perverts who exploit children but the problem is putting an active back door into the OS that could allow nation states to take advantage of this new feature and possible make it scan for other things. It is also a fundamental violation of privacy. Strange for a company supposedly so focused on user privacy and security. If Android or Windows did this everyone would be complaining. However Apple changed their mind after so much negative feedback.

If you are online using any OS and a browser you are being actively tracked and your data is being mined. Some like Google are a bit more open about it and the data they collect is certainly a privacy concern. That being said I don't think iPhones/iPad OS is much more secure either. Apple is better but not absent of data harvesting. So calling any OS a virus is applicable in one sense but calling one a virus and another not is ignorant because it simply isn't true.

In terms of security Google has a better track record than even Apple does in terms of security flaws and resolution. Both are superior to Microsoft.

The real question is why do you trust Apple or any big tech company at all? None have been proven to be immune against security threats and data mining? It is more which one is better and while Apple has better privacy but who knows if that will last with China market being rather influential but security wise just being on the internet is a security risk. Android and Chrome OS are very secure and Samsung is very trustworthy. Some cheap Chinese no name company like RedMagic or ZTE or others might not be so trustworthy. But big brand Android is just about as secure if not better and privacy is better on Apple but you still are not private on any mobile OS.

Again I can understand brand loyalty and the reasons for it but it doesn't make alternatives a virus. It means you have to understand the environment and lock it down as best you can and never trust anyone with your data or privacy.

Oh I would have loved that feature to be implemented. Not that I am a pervert or anything but such a feature would hold people accountable to the law. But considering how bad our society has become I did not doubt the negative feedback. I am stuck in the 1960's and watch TV shows from this time period. Taking photos of such things would have been almost unheard of in those days.

Lots and lots of people these days belong behind bars for having such content on their phones and iPads.

Well I am stuck in the 80s and I agree that any type of sexualizing children is wrong and it shouldn't matter what time you live in. It was wrong in the 60s, wrong in the 80s and wrong now.

That being said I am not keen in an AI algorithm scanning my devices without my knowledge or consent. Kind of goes against the 4th amendment and lawful search and seizure. Also the idea that the software could be tweaked to look for images of political opponents or ethnicities like Uyghurs and others but we have totally hijacked this thread so I will stop here.

Well this will be my last words on this topic.

People these days don't believe in a right or a wrong and far more so than in the 80's or 60's. People these days believe in a new Tolerance where truth is not absolute. So in their minds there is nothing wrong with child porn and they complain about apple searching their phones for it. They dont want apple to do this since they dont want to go to jail where they belong.

I bet money that in 10-15 years it "may" be okay and not against the law to have child porn on ones phone. Our society is from the pitt of Hell and is headed in that direction. Kudos to apple for trying to hold people accountable and search ones phone for illegal images.

I just brought an iPad 7th generation with cellular past few days. I already have an iPad 9th generation and iPad Pro 2018.

The reason that I brought iPad 7th generation is because this is the cheapest iPad I can find with cellular as this only cost me around $300 Canadian, where the iPad 9th cellular version will cost about $600 not including tax.

I don’t really need to use iPad for anything intensive and I am not using iPad as productive devices. I have MacBook Pro for this purpose. I am only using iPad for book reading, video streaming, web browsing etc. I needed an cellular version is because I need this for travel purposes.

Glad these are your last words on the topic. I don’t want my stuff online or offline to be searched and the fact that folks confuse somebody’s right to privacy, regardless of online or offline, as meaning support for child porn is certainly more than offensive.

On topic: iPad Pro still.

With all the talk many use the Pro, the classic, and the Mini but who uses the air? I created this poll to find out.
Looking back at my use case I wish I bought the plain old iPad WiFi but at 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.

When it breaks it's cheap to upgrade to the next refresh at ~$500

I use both the Air and the Pro, although the Air is more Pro than my Pro: my iPads are an iPad Air 5 and a 9.7-inch iPad Pro. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro has the Quad Speakers as its only advantage over the Air 5, it loses in every other category.

I use both for the same things (content consumption), and I bought the Air for two reasons: the full-screen design, and battery life (the 9.7-inch iPad Pro was forced from iOS 9 into iOS 12 and battery life, while half-decent, is significantly worse than it used to be on iOS 9). I really like both.

Are so few using the air these days? If so few it sure has allot of Colors available.
You’re going to encounter bias when you are polling a group that is not representative of the general population. Obviously the base iPad and iPad sell more than the pro but on this forum 70% are voting iPad Pro. This is quite obvious.

I use an iPad Air 3 for everything. It’s my only computer at home. I use it for email, photo and video editing, web surfing, music, watching films, books, university work including writing and researching all my essays and zoom classes. It’s magic, I’d love a new one but…🤷🏼‍♂️

I have too many iPads now, I just inherited another, never thought I would have this problem:

M1 12.9 5th gen (upgraded from 4th gen 12.9, wife just upgraded to 6th gen 12.9)
9th gen (gave sister in law 4th gen 12.9, newly inherited)
Mini 5 (had this since launch)
M2 11 4th gen (insurance company replace my 11 M1 3rd gen with cracked screen)

Apparently there is a major 3rd party shortage of iPad Pro screens, after almost 2 weeks they decided to give me an upgrade, quite the pleasant surprise, I haven’t even opened it yet.
I think I may need to sell a couple, I thought I had a good use case for 2, but 4 seems kind of crazy. 😂😂

I have an iPad Pro 11 (cellular), Mini 6 (cellular), and Air 4 (this one mainly for watching videos while taking notes with one of the others and as a spare for beta testing a trail camera app)
