For me, the iphone 3G was my very first smartphone to own back then. Prior to that i just had a simple Motorola razor flip phone. Ever since the 3G, I had every iterations except the 5 and 5S. Also didn't get the Original iPhone

Motorola razor v3m - The Verizon wireless version -2007

Samsung Alias 2 - 2009 - This was the coolest 'dumb phone' in the world (in my opinion). The keyboard buttons had e-ink screens in them and changed based on need. you could also open it vertically or horizontally.

2013 - I lived in the Philippines for two years and had a literally no-name china 'dumb phone'

Galaxy S5 - 2015

iPhone X - 2018

iPhone 14 Pro Max - 2022

I didn’t have a cell phone (or smartphone) before my first iPhone, but I had used Palm PDAs since around 2000. After iOS finally gained copy&paste in 2009, I bought an iPhone 3GS.

That reminded me I had a Palm but unfortunately one day it was in my soft briefcase on my office floor and I stepped on it. It did not crack but it never functioned properly after that. Using that small stylus...wow.

I don’t remember the names of any of the feature phones I had before my first iPhone, but I remember all the phones I’ve had since I got an iPhone.

iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
Nexus One
iPhone 4
HTC ThunderBolt
Galaxy Nexus

Galaxy S7 Edge
iPhone SE (2016)
iPhone 7
Galaxy S8
iPhone 11 Pro
iPhone 12 mini
iPhone 13 Pro
iPhone 14 Pro

Did my best to put them all in the order I got them, but for a little while I was buying a few phones a year so not exactly sure when they all lined up.

Path? What path? I had one smartphone (HTC Touch Pro) in 2009 and then got the iPhone 5 in 2012.

To acclimate myself to iOS I got a 3GS in 2011 and carried it alongside my HTC Touch Pro.

I went from the 5 in 2012 to the 6+ in February 2015, to the 6s+ in September 2015. From there it was the Pixel 3a XL in 2019 and the 11 Pro Max in 2021.

But, except for the 6+ which I traded in, I still have every phone I gotten over the years. Plus the 4 and 4s.

Note, I'm not counting the flip phones from 1999 to 2009. Those weren't smartphones.

When iPhone came out exclusive to AT&T that’s why I hated them. I was on Nextel sprint. Once sprint got the iPhone 4S I had to get that. The rest was history. Deep inside I wanted an iPhone but spoke so much about them. Hated Apple. Now look. iPhones iPods macs iPads all over my household. Love Apple products.

I had a mixture of flip phones and some windows phones before this but I have no idea on the models.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5
Samsung Galaxy Note 7

My reasons for swapping over to iPhone were most of the people I interact with use them so iMessage and Facetime are useful and the software finally got good enough in iOS 14 to be usable I could never stand how home screens were managed in iOS before that point. I also really enjoy my apple watch and iPad pro the integration between all of it is nice. Another iPhone selling point for me is the wide frequency band coverage they are better for travel than their flagship android counterparts.

My first phone was my only phone until I turned 18, that’s why the three year gap until 2007 LOL. I was on “feature“ phones until the original iPhone made touchscreens and smartphones prevalent. I previously had no interest in the Palm, Treo, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, etc type smartphones and they were typically marketed towards business as I remember. When I eventually did get my first smartphone I opted for Android.

As an Engineering student at the time, I was attracted to the customization and ROM flashing capabilities. But over the years, the platforms have matured and I noticed Google pushing Android to be more iOS like in certain areas. Believe it or not, the straw that broke camel‘s back for me was Google replacing Google Play Music with YouTube Music. Google Play Music previously had a feature called “identify what’s playing” and YouTube music did not replicate the feature at all. I used that feature daily. Well iPhones have Shazam identification built in and that was it for me, bought my first iPhone on 2020 and haven’t looked back.

I left my first iPhone because all my friends at the time had Blackberries and I didn’t want to miss out on BBM and the notification LEDs. I tried my only Android after that and the HTC EVO was the longest smartphone I kept. I almost stayed with Android at the time because the Samsung S series phones seemed so much better than what was on the iPhone at the time. I went back to Apple because the iPhone 5 had the new larger screen and modern look and I was curious to try iOS again.

I still have the Nokia 105 for my other local SIM. The gold iPhone 5S was beautiful. The jump from iPhone 7 to 13 Pro was pretty significant. I'm still loving using it.

I remember vividly the Nokia 6108 my dad had and the early Motorola Razr my mum had when I was a kid.
