I will continue to use my 15" 1.25GHz PB until the dual-core Intel-based models are released. For desktop use I will weigh the cost and features of the new quad-core PM, assuming such a beast is announced, before making a decision.

It's fun to fantasize about the PowerBook revision's features but chances are they will only be modest. X700, eh. DDR2, even more eh. 200MHz FSB would be nice though.

don't "settle" for an iBook; wait 'till january (if you cant). apple won't have much else to release at MacWorld San Francisco...that's what i'm going to do.

Do you think that MWSF will offer an updated Ibook? Also, does anybody know if your can buy macs at MacWorld itself? It's been years since I've been to one so I don't remember if there are good buys to be had at one.

Power Mac G5, my first ever power mac. Hopefully they'll offer at least two dual dual configs. if not i'll be stuck with a single core. I think if this is going to be the last powermac g5 ever then they should all be dual dual.

and if there is a 13.3 widescreen pb. i'll take one of those too, if not only the powermac for me,....maybe a 60 gb ipod

I am planning on getting a dual-core Power Mac G5 and Apple Cinema Display 20-inch within the month (hopefully before 2006 at least).

Hopefully after Christmas and MWSF we'll actually have a week without Apple updates (never thought I'd hear myself saying that).

If I had the money, I'd probably buy the last of the PPC PowerBooks, maxed out 15" likely.

I've been using my ailing G3 iBook since May, waiting and hoping for a PowerBook update.

*IF* the PowerBooks are updated... I'm getting a 12" PB, 17" extra monitor and bluetooth keyboard (for home use) and a new Timbuk2 travel case.

Upon receiving said PowerBook, I will most likely take it (and it's 6 hr. battery life) to Starbucks and spill my Venti Caramel Macchiato w/ an extra shot, all over the keyboard.

:) Mel

I bet the next PB update/revamp sees the modem dropped in favour of the USB one...just like the iMac. Ok, this may not be until intel inside, but its a waste of space for most of us these days with wireless and broadband.
Actually, dropping the modem from laptops is a bit premature. There are still enough hotels that don't have broadband. And I would hate to have another loose piece to carry around.

In that case you're not buying another Apple product ever as there will always be something new announced every so often.

Assuming they update on wednesday, how soon will they be in stores?

i have been trying to figure this out as well and nobody seems to know.

if the powerbooks are updated on wednesday, i will probably just buy the 17" from the online apple store. but with my luck, the local apple stores here in dallas will probably receive new powerbooks two days later and i will be wishing i would have waited so i could buy one locally.

Since this is a Wednesday evening announcement I doubt they'll be in the stores Wednesday.

They could be in the stores Thursday or it could take a few days. Or it could take a week or two. It all depends on what they say at the announcement.

However, since they seem to be clearing the product pipeline, there's a good chance for them to be at the stores fairly quickly. However, how many will the stores get and what will the demand be? I'd recommend ordering online to avoid the rush.

Well depending on if they release Powerbooks or PowerMacs or both I'll have to see the processors that come with. If they were to release say a dual processor G5 powerbook or hypothetically a dual core dual processor power mac then I might just end up getting the chicken korma instead of the chicken vindaloo i usually get.

If they updated the 12-inch (which everything points to them not doing), I might order that.

However, if they came out with 13-inch widescreen, I'd order right away.

If the 15-inch got some really good specs I *might* get it, but I don't want a notebook that big.

Finally, if there ends up being no new Powerbook I want, and they update the cinema displays, I might get a new one of those. However, I don't think they'll be that much better, and I doubt I'd notice small specification improvements.

The only thing that I want announced at this event is the BT Mighty Mouse (Pro edition) ha ha
