I bought one for my primary set of keys to try out, if I like it I'll add my bicycle, primary bag, parent's house keys, and work ID. I wish they had a credit card shaped one like Tile does for my wallet, I use too slim a wallet to make the current form factor work for that

These would be so handy if you think your spouse is cheating. Just slip one into their car, or into the pocket of their purse they never use, etc.

This is

1) Stalking and creepy AF, and seriously enabling of domestic abuse
2) Probably illegal
3) Something Apple *specifically* addressed with security measures because of 1 and 2

Less stalky and creepy than hiring a private detective?

How does it “enable” domestic abuse?

Any citation for this illegality?

Regardless, a GPS device on a car is likely a better tool for something like that, anyway.

Exactly. As I said a few posts ago, Apple’s “anti-stalking” measures are just hogwash and PR talk. I’d bet that in 5 minutes of searching on Amazon we could find tech that’s far better at stalking — in some cases even caters to it — and has been out for years.

Oh you know what would be a good idea? If they made an Airpods case with an insert for the Airtag. I can see an entire third party accessory marketplace come from this.

Yes I know you can already kinda track your airpods, but it’s not as good as airtag.
What they should really be doing is embedding an AirTag into the AirPods case. Current trackability of AirPods suck and you can’t even track them while they’re in the case.

Car keys (x2)
Bag
Dogs (x2)

This is a legit blessing for me - wish it came out a month ago. Literally bought a new car last month and lost 1 of the key fobs. Replacement and programming? $600 bucks, thanks BMW.

The sad part is the keys are likely somewhere in my house or surrounding areas that this tag could easily point me to. This is WELL worth the investment for me, personally, I lose **** ALL the time.

Agreed. And I'm sure it's coming.

I was thinking of the 4 pack to give a set to my parents and my aunt, but they can barely manage with their iPhones so just one for me on my keys.

Don't drive. Don't have a spouse/partner who is cheating on me or who I'm cheating on (I think some of you'll need to just break up, or get divorces, but that's none of my business), no kids running wild. I do have pets but, they don't wear collars. Also, I'm concerned animals and small kids will eat them.

If someone is in an abusive relationship this could easily be abused if not prevented especially if the abused partner/child/etc tries to leave - especially since it could help someone when they're in a vulnerable location

And yes, it's more creepy and stalky than hiring private detective, for one thing the law limits when and where a private detective can invade someone's privacy, and they are licensed and regulated to help curb them stepping over that line.

It's a crime in Texas without consent, for ex

Why do you need a tool for this to begin with? You know you don't own your spouse, right? If they're cheating you still don't get to be a stalker (and again, in a lot of the US at least, the use you're suggesting, whether it's an airtag or car GPS, is highly illegal because of that).

I would buy 4 airtags.

1. Car Keys
2. Cochlear Implant remote
3. Cochlear Implant bilateral audio cord
4. Cochlear implant processor carrying box

I'm constantly losing my Cochlear Implant Remote and bilateral audio cord. I don't use my Cochlear implant remote often and when I do end up needing to use it to adjust my cochlear implant processor volume or change programs — I'm either forgetting where I put it or I literally can't find it. Same goes for my bilateral cords. I just got the AirPod Max which have been amazing for me. But I use my bilateral cord for when I workout or go running outside and I tend to forget where I placed it too. My cochlear implant remote costs $350 and my bilateral cord costs $200 plus tax. If I lose one of those (or both), that's basically almost $550. Obviously I wear my cochlear implants everyday, but when I travel I use a special carrying box to put my cochlear implants in for safety reasons. My cochlear implants processor alone cost $7,500 for both ears. Yikes.

I'm holding off of purchasing the airtags as I want to see how people will like them, or if they will run into any issues with the airtags. Instead, I just purchased Apple Watch band new pistachio solo braided loop and the pistachio iphone silicone case :) I thought getting those accessories in the pistachio color would be fun since they're not going to be around for long. And I always missed out on the new fun colors that apple are always coming out with! But I'm ultimately super excited about the airtags as they're Deaf friendly for me! I'm glad that apple had accessibility in mind with the airtags when they were producing them. I love how the phone can give you a visualization as to where the lost item is, and pinpoint you to help you locate it. I would have purchased Tile, but Tile goes off by sound and as a Deaf person, that's not easy for me because my cochlear implants have a hard time locating where the sounds are coming from, so airtags would definitely make things a lot easier for me when I'm locating 'said' item. So I'm interested in waiting and seeing how people like them, and if there are some bugs that might occur.
I gave in. I purchased the 4-pack airtags with the belkin airtag carrying keychain. I'll be picking it up this Saturday at the nearest apple store which is about 45 mins from me. It'll be interesting to see how it works once I get my hands on them!

1. Luggage

2. Car - The tracking option I can use currently via my iPhone does not have the pinpoint accuracy I'd like. It gives you a general idea of the location but I've spent 15-30 minutes searching for my car using the feature in a large parking structure. Hopefully the AirTags are more accurate. Can't wait to get them to try.
The car idea is smart. I am directionally impaired when it comes to finding my car in a packed parking lot. The last time I went to a mall was to go to Apple to get my iPad issues figured out and the mall had a parking garage instead of like your regular target parking lot. I couldn't remember what level I parked my car at and my car does not have Apple CarPlay, I have a super basic 2013 Kia Forte that doesn't have cruise control or powered windows (lol!) — I spent about 15 minutes trying to remember where I parked my car, and a lot of times I will write down what level my car is parked in on my phone but sometimes that written note gets erased somehow and then I'm clueless. So I actually love this idea of using the airtag to help locate your car. But I'm definitely curious if the airtag will ping or alert others who has an iPhone about the car that may be 'missing' or if you can turn off that alert for a little bit until you come back.

A purse isn’t a motor vehicle, so, no, that isn’t evidence that it’s a crime. And if you have an ownership interest in the motor vehicle, the law doesn’t apply, either.

Yeah, I’m going to say that having someone follow you and take pictures of you is creepier and stalkier than an AirTag.

I didn’t say I need it. I don’t even need one for my keys.

I bought 8 as my family is hot garbage at keeping track of their stuff. My wife’s keys, all of my kid’s backpacks and sport bags, daughter’s car keys. We are actually traveling in June so will probably move a few to our luggage to see how useful that is.

I am going to put my air tags on the cars of customers shopping at the posh jewelry store down the road from me. Track them to their home and then ...

give them Tim Cook's business card.

I don't have CarPlay but I have used the feature to mark the location of my car using the iPhone and in my experience it's been okay for the most part. You can get a general idea of the location and the directions it gives you to the car is mediocre at best in my experience. The big failure comes in when you are at a large event like a baseball game, concert or huge parking structure. It has led me astray in almost every one of those situations and far off on some occasions. If it addresses that problem for me it has already paid for itself many times over. And that's not even mentioning the possibility that it may be able to let me know the real-time location of my luggage during travel in case it gets lost by the airlines or if it is delayed for some reason.
