It could always be smashed with a hammer or forcefully removed with the device they used to cut the lock of the bike. I think it really comes down to making it as inaccessible as possible to buy enough time for them to give up.Great info! Thank you!
I’m also wondering if there’ll be development of third-party “locks” that affix AirTags to something and lock them on there making the battery inaccessible without a key/passcode. I would buy that product in a heart beat for my bike. Then, it doesn’t matter if the thief gets a notification or even if it beeps — as you pointed out, this could even be a deterrent.
1. The owner will be on the plane, but depending on the where they are sitting and where the luggage is they may be out of range of the tag.Well - 2 things
1 - if it's on a plane, if all goes well, the owner should also be on the plane, so it wouldn't be flagged as tracking anyone. It's not separated from the owner.
2 - shouldn't you and everyone else on the plane be in airplane mode so no tracking should be capable anyway.
I think 90% of the value of AirTag is the peace of mind offered by knowing that your things can no longer be lost. I’ve never actually lost my house keys, but I’ve had many anxious moments (some very brief) when I thought they might be lost. AirTags basically eliminates that, even if you never have to actually use the finding features.I've never lost any of those things myself.
But that is no guarantee that I won't do so in the future.
Absolutely, it is very much about peace of mind, although it is probably stretching things to say that things can't be lost - they aren't perfect.I think 90% of the value of AirTag is the peace of mind offered by knowing that your things can no longer be lost. Question to those saying they'll be putting AirTags on people to keep track of them at events: isn't this more a use case for Find My Friends or one of the many cross-platform apps with similar functionality?
Would be nice to have a directional/small-unit-distance sort of way to find them rather than wandering generally toward a dot on a map. (i.e. wife is 30ft that way with a sensitive arrow)
The problem with find my friends is that the person needs to be carrying a phone or wearing a cellular apple watch. Many kids don't. This is potentially a cheap way of doing this (as long as it is somewhere where there will be plenty of people with phones).Question to those saying they'll be putting AirTags on people to keep track of them at events: isn't this more a use case for Find My Friends or one of the many cross-platform apps with similar functionality?
As much as I hope apple products can solve anything, Apple isn’t known for solving these rare issues.Exactly what do you expect Apple to do in such a random scenario??
Well hopefully with an Airtag they will contact me.good idea ....strangely i was once lost a case but not the headphone itself ...ha (the headphone was in my ear but i drop the case which hang on my shoulder strap of my backpack.) but i think ppls who pick it up can easily to remove the tag.

2. Airplane mode only disables cellular. Not bluetooth or wifi.
It sounds like the beep doesn't start for 3 days though so that won't be an issue. I'll be curious to see if people get alerted that they're being tracked though.
if that’s true I think that is concerning. Are you saying that if I’m being stalked then I won’t know about it until my stalker knows where I live? The 'stalker alert' only happens when the person arrives home (as defined by their home address on their iPhone) with the airtag, so even if your luggage ended up on a different plane to you, no passengers will receive the stalker alert.
IMHO the "stalker prevention" settings are more for Apple PR than anything else. Think about it – any stalker with money in his wallet already has a dozen ways to figure out where you live and where you frequent (including but not limited to background checks, technology specifically designed for tracking people, etc.).if that’s true I think that is concerning.
