As long as it has TouchID I’m good and I welcome other improvements along with it.

1) Mouse support
2) Mouse support
3) Mouse support
4) Mouse support

And, finally...

5) Mouse support

Absolutely!

And I really think that we’ll be getting this time.

And Cook could stand up on stage and say his (in)famous line ‘Why would anyone buy a PC now?’ with a little more credibility!

Anyway, it should be just be like the Mac trackpad:

- one finger slide can move a ‘cursor’ across the screen
- two finger slide will act like a one finger touch display slide and move things on the screen ie start a viewport scroll etc
- a press (one or two finger) will be like a press on a touch display.
- ditto long press
- and so on...

I’ll be amazed if we don’t get trackpad support this year. The mini surface pro has it, Samsung has a Note that has it.

If Apple doesn’t bring this to at least the iPad Pro, it’ll start to feel like a compromised product and will never be the productivity workhorse that it could be.

I understand the manufacturing costs and overall implementation would make this wish difficult, but a *sapphire display*. Realizing that how much we try to protect our iPads and I don’t prefer the use of screen protectors, A sapphire coating on an iPad display would honestly be a selling point for me, just as it was for the stainless steel Apple Watch.

Don’t get me wrong on this. I like your idea and it makes sense (to me) but WHERE or WHAT makes you think we will finally be getting it this year. There’s no indications of that and it’s apparent they want to keep the iPad and MacBook line distinct.

I'd be happy with iPad 10.5 side-bezel-sized bezel all around the device, which means no notch. The device can't get less tall as that defeats the purpose of the full-sized ASK in landscape, so the screen has to get taller. To maintain the 4:3 aspect ratio, that would mean the device needs to become a little wider and have a wider screen. Wonder what that would add up to as far as screen width/height and device width/height. Anyone work it out?

Good shout, considering it's designed to have a pokey thing stab and rub all over it. Much scope for scratches, by design

1. 12.9 IPP in a smaller chassis really does it for me. Forbes has a side by side pic extrapolated from the Mcnomura rumor. It looks barely larger than the current 10.3 dimensions. Brilliant!

2. A better keyboard. Make two if you need to. One slim and skinny. The other more “smart and pro”. Backlighting, function keys, slightly more travel.

3. Trackpad or mouse support would make me swoon but I doubt it’s happening.

4. I like faceid but it’s not a deal breaker. If on board it needs to work horizontally and also have a wider range.

5. Software improvements. Especially to the file system to make it more of a laptop replacement.

While i understand what you're saying and how it would also help in making the iPad Pro more of a laptop replacement i just don't see them doing it. Apple like to keep the Mac and iPad separate.

Personally i wish they would make a Surface type of device with the following:

MacOS that can also run IOS apps - BUT is NOT a laptop like the Surface Laptop (i just don't like touch screen on a laptop)
Kickstand - the Surface Pro (and now Go) have the best way to prop up their devices the iPad should have the same
Mouse support - either a new mouse or they could add support for the current Magic Mouse
Apple Pencil support - for the obvious of being able to draw and so on
SSD storage
Full desktop apps like Final Cut Pro and Logic

I think if Apple were to do that it would sell really WELL. I can't be the only Apple fan who is tempted by a Surface but put off by Windows, if Apple did it with MacOS and perfected it in their way like they usually do with products i think it would be an amazing device.

I think that you'll be getting iOS apps on the Mac next year when Marzipan is ready.

I don't understand the argument about the iPad not ever having indirect input support.

I think it's possible to envisage the iPad being a device that primarily is a touch screen device and feels 'right' when you use it like that.

However, I think it's also possible to imagine it being used with a trackpad on a keyboard (i.e. like a Surface keyboard) when you need to work with large amounts of text i.e. when you're doing office productivity type tasks.

I don't think that having indirect input support on the iPad means that the Mac has to suffer, either.

5-10 years out, I could absolutely see a scenario where the Mac is mostly used by people who need to do 'heavy lifting' (i.e. those who need 'trucks') content creation & science research etc. - and by those who simply prefer the Mac.

Likewise, I think that in 5-10 years time (and maybe even sooner than that), the iPad will be the computer that most people buy. But I do absolutely think that indirect input will need to be part of the mix to make that scenario happen.

Why do people want mouse support when you can just touch the element you want to move?
Probably because pinpoint accuracy is possible with a mouse and cursor down to the level of an individual pixel, while touch-control is limited to an area the size of your fingertip and no smaller.

The fingertip size limitation doesn't matter if you just using the operating system and selecting icons, but if you need to do fine-tuning of a drawing, you could set aside the apple pencil and go pixel by pixel doing touchups with greater ease.

Likewise, I imagine for folks who have the dream of running video games on an iPad (which isn't my personal dream, but to each their own), that would allow them to run games built for mouse-interfaces that don't work well with an apple pencil or touch interface.

Everything the OP has posted! + bring back a flush back camera.

Im really excited, if this is like the iPhone X design, that means the front bezel will only be black; and if they have a gold back option, that would be perfect! Been waiting for a black/gold color combination.

The bezels are ok now. If thinner it will be difficult to hold.

Pencil is OK. I’d like to see better friction with the screen. Make it more like writing on paper.

Faster CPU and better battery would be good.

I think the existing iPad Pro is wonderful, but do have a short wish list for the 2018 version;

1) Smaller bezels with Face ID
2) Waterproof (I use outside)
3) Duel rear cameras like the iPhone X
4) Backlit keyboard (or at least different coloured keys to background to see in poor light) with built in storage for pencil
5) Jet black finish like on the iPhone 7 (my favourite Apple finish ever)
6) 1TB storage
7) Supplied with high-speed charger

The Apple Smart Keyboard is a major sticking point for me. I am really hoping they’re going to have something new this time around. I have abandoned it on my current iPad Pro.

OLED!!!

I understand the request for OLED, but I don’t see the iPad acquiring an OLED panel for the next generation iPad. Reason being, is I don’t think they have the necessary suppliers to manufacture displays on that level for the iPad in those sizes. Apple literally lined up Samsung just for the iPhone and LG for the future, which seemingly would be the only two main OLED suppliers for an iPad if it were possible, which I see Micro-LED being the next advancement over LCD for the iPad.

Agree with all but why would you need 1TB on an iPad (or laptop) for that matter. It’s too much for normal needs and too little for an entire media library. I’ve started going with 256 on most of my mobiles and use outboard storage for the rest. iPad can use a ravtech filehub and just connect up an external 4TB no? Seems to me it’s way more cost effective.

Dock support, which is a really simple way of saying that I want a Mac (Mac Mini?) that I can dock an iPad into to use as a screen for a proper desktop OS. But have it so that the storage is mainly in the iPad, and by undocking, it reverts back to a standard iPad on iOS with access to the same files.

Probably not happening as long as Apple still does this sort of thing "wirelessly", though, unless it's more of an early step to them

I think Apple’s answer to combining our iOS + MacOS devices is through Continuity and cloud sync. I think for the most part it’s the ideal solution. I’m not sure how compelling the advantages of a Mac base would be. A Mac base without the screen gets rid of very little carrying weight. And I doubt a Mac base will be much cheaper than a regular MacBook (not that Apple is interested in saving the customer money). Though I can see several compelling disadvantages—unlike a MacBook it’s unusable without the iPad handy, one can’t use both devices at the same time, 10.5” iPad has a small screen for macOS, and it would be top heavy when iPad is docked.

Lighter weight without compromising structural integrity.

No notch (but it seems like this will be the case given those icon leaks).

Mouse/trackpad support (not going to happen as it'll probably cannibilize Mac sales).

Other than that the iPad Pro's are already close to perfection.
Fortunately the notch was never considered for the new iPad Pros.
Mouse/trackpad support would be great, all the navigation gestures are there and I think it would work well. As you say, there are certainly reasons for not doing it but, while I don’t know, I’m sure it is probably still being considered as an option by Apple.
