I think that you'll be getting iOS apps on the Mac next year when Marzipan is ready.
I don't understand the argument about the iPad not ever having indirect input support.
I think it's possible to envisage the iPad being a device that primarily is a touch screen device and feels 'right' when you use it like that.
However, I think it's also possible to imagine it being used with a trackpad on a keyboard (i.e. like a Surface keyboard) when you need to work with large amounts of text i.e. when you're doing office productivity type tasks.
I don't think that having indirect input support on the iPad means that the Mac has to suffer, either.
5-10 years out, I could absolutely see a scenario where the Mac is mostly used by people who need to do 'heavy lifting' (i.e. those who need 'trucks') content creation & science research etc. - and by those who simply prefer the Mac.
Likewise, I think that in 5-10 years time (and maybe even sooner than that), the iPad will be the computer that most people buy. But I do absolutely think that indirect input will need to be part of the mix to make that scenario happen.
