I got my first one, the iPhone 3G, in 2009. Like very shortly after the 3GS got announced. My parents gave it to me for my birthday. It was my very first smartphone overall by the way.
And what a great piece of tech it was. Everyone in my school was so jealous. Not only was I one of the few to have any phone at all, I’ve had a phone that had a huge 3.5-inch display on it, I could play actual games on it, there was an App Store with between 50.000 and 85.000 apps (I looked that one up). It was full innovation back then.
And boy have things changed fast since then. Not just in terms of how the iPhone itself has changed, but for changing what technology I use as well; I started off with an iPhone, but have had a few iPod’s as well, and I currently have a MacBook Pro, an iPad, Apple Watch and Apple TV. I’m happy to be on the Apple train. I know it may sound a bit over-the-top, and probably even ‘fanboyish’.
But I’m just happy I never went for Android. I mean, I’ve given it a try, but it just can’t compete with the ecosystem Apple offers*. It can’t, and - based on what I’ve seen over the past years - it probably never will.
* Not just talking services such as iCloud, Apple Music etc. I mean to refer to software functionality as well, including the Continuity features for example.
