I paid an early termination fee to leave Verizon and go to AT&T in 2007 for the first one on launch day. I have upgraded every year since then.

I got my first one, the iPhone 3G, in 2009. Like very shortly after the 3GS got announced. My parents gave it to me for my birthday. It was my very first smartphone overall by the way.

And what a great piece of tech it was. Everyone in my school was so jealous. Not only was I one of the few to have any phone at all, I’ve had a phone that had a huge 3.5-inch display on it, I could play actual games on it, there was an App Store with between 50.000 and 85.000 apps (I looked that one up). It was full innovation back then.

And boy have things changed fast since then. Not just in terms of how the iPhone itself has changed, but for changing what technology I use as well; I started off with an iPhone, but have had a few iPod’s as well, and I currently have a MacBook Pro, an iPad, Apple Watch and Apple TV. I’m happy to be on the Apple train. I know it may sound a bit over-the-top, and probably even ‘fanboyish’.

But I’m just happy I never went for Android. I mean, I’ve given it a try, but it just can’t compete with the ecosystem Apple offers*. It can’t, and - based on what I’ve seen over the past years - it probably never will.

* Not just talking services such as iCloud, Apple Music etc. I mean to refer to software functionality as well, including the Continuity features for example.

3GS in 2009. Wow, Ive been an iPhone user for almost 10 years (used a Galaxy SIII for a year or so).

It was 2011, when I got my first job. iPhone 4, but the 4s was just about to come out. Surprisingly, the ATT employee told us to return the device and he would hold us a 4s. He actually did it. God bless him lol.

iPhone 4 was my first, follow by 5 and 6, before I finally got on the S models with the 6S Plus skipped the 7 and gave android a try but hated it, so brought an 8 Plus before selling that for an X

Had the 2007 iPhone, 3G, 3GS, then switched over to Android for years (dark times). Finally switched back with iPhone 7, iPhone X, XS Max, now 11 Pro Max.

For a while Android was ahead in terms of featureset, but they're on parity with one another now. Android is just unstable, ugly, random battery drains, sketchy apps that invaded your privacy, etc. I had most of the Samsung flagship phones every year. Awful.

The black 5, I camped out in front of AT&T(closest apple store is 450 miles away) all night and was number two in the door the next morning. To date it has been my favorite. After that I skipped the s, but have bought every “plus/max” version. Before the 5, I had a crappy htc droid phone, and from 2007 to 2010 a windows phone, the htc would often get hotter than the sun and the windows phone had very limited app support.
