Whats a good Passwords app??

I saw the Wallet app, and its REALLY nice, but i think that it is unnessecary for me at the moment. i dont need ALL that info right now. I just need a good, simple password storage app.

I was going through adding all the accounts to my ionce personal assistant, and MY GOD, i dont know ANY of my passwords! its crazy.. so one of these would be great.

basically i want one with a simple to use interface and maybe some extras, like link to account with autofill or something.

any suggestions?

SplashID is an excellent information storage app (covers basically whatever you want it to cover...but only if it's in text form). It supports the iPhone/iPod Touch as well as several other devices and PCs/Macs. Costs $40 for both the iPhone version and the Desktop application but what it does, it does extremely well.

1Password, but only if you are a Mac User. Windows Users should not download it. At this time they do not support their Windows users at all. I lost all of my saved passwords and notes when I upgraded to version 1.2. No way to backup the data.

thanks for the great and detailed response tech lover..SO why would you suggest one over the other? Why not just tell me to take a shot in the dark and just randomly pick one if the only reason you decided to suggest 1password was because IT WORKS, well, i'm pretty sure THEY ALL WORK!

My question is, what differenciates one form the other..

SplashID looks cool. It has the ability to direct you to that particular account's website, it also has an autopassword generator, and categories (which is needed because i have A LOT of passwords)

I dont REALLY need to keep this info on my laptop. I would rather it on my phone and my phone only.. so long as the access password to that app can not be broken, i would be entirely safe.

If i didnt get laptop version for $40, would i still be able to export the list through itunes as a different type of file? Like a .csv?

Unfortunately, Keychain does not work on the iPhone/Touch AFAIK. Then again I may be missing something.

I would like a desktop and iPhone/Touch app that syncs and securely stores info for the following:

- Combination Locks
- Credit Cards
- Log ons and passwords
- Passport numbers, SSN and DoB for family members

And other related or similar type data.

Anybody have a recommendation?

Anyhow, I decided to go with SplashID because I have information to store in addition to passwords. Purchased the iPhone/Touch version and am trying out the desktop version.

IMHO, applications like this need to be able to be synced with your desktop. SplashID allows for this. Is fairly flexible. We shall see.

BTW, I tried a few free ones, but quickly found out that they were very limited.

get splashid - the big advantage of SplashID is its platform independence. There are clients for pretty much any mobile platform. So if you ever get a different phone or switch from Windows to Mac or vice versa you'll be glad that you don't have to re-enter all the passwords...

I think i will go with isecrets, the reviews seem good, and no connectivity issues.

Their development team is incredible knowledgeable and respond quickly to any questions/concerns you might have. They are constantly taking customer feedback and trying to improve their product.

It's your choice, but I really think you might be over reacting to negative comments you hear about SplashID. They're a very reputable company with great customer service, and their recent update fixed the sync issues.

oh sorry if my MANNERS were not up to your standards. I wasnt trying to be mean, but even though it was in reference to the same thing i was talking about, the person chose to ask a new different question, which is thread hijacking.. a new question on a similar thread is still not giving more information to the original post.

anyways, whatever, i'm sorry i said anything about a thread hijack. I was TRYING to find out the different between the ones on the app store. I still havent got an ACTUAL answer, but i did some more research and found that isecrete does not offer (or atleast they do not advertise) ANY type of encryption..

and as for splashID, maybe they are good devlopers, but they have bugs. Why would i pay for something that still does not have the bugs worked out??? especially if there is something else out there that CAN do what i want it to as well as SplashID

Even if you only want to store passwords on the iPhone, I think that a desktop app that syncs with the mobile version is extremely helpful because:

• your data is backed up separately from iTunes
• it's often easier to enter data on a laptop or desktop computer
• you'll probably need the passwords in both places anyway

I chose 1Password, largely on the strength of its desktop app and integration with my browser. The iPhone app, which is still free, has a way to go, but it still lets me take my data with me. I also like its two-tiered approach to security: you use a 4 digit code to unlock the app and you can specify which entries need the full password to display them.

For Windows users, eWallet looks good - it has a Windows desktop version, and they say that one for the Mac will be coming out at some point.

honestly, the NEED to have it on my desktop or laptop is just not needed for me. I ALWAYS have my phone, so even if i'm sitting at my cpu, it wouldnt be much more work for me to pull out my phone to look up a password.. As for backup, well - eh. I mean, i have everything written down in a place i my house for emergencies.. but really, it would not be the end ofthe world if i had to re-enter them

my MAIN focus is getting an app that is nicely organized with main categories (i dont want to scroll through ALL my passwords to get to one) i would also like to store other things like account number, driver's liscence number, policy numbers, ect.. I would LIKE to have categories separate them for a quick look up .

So again, what would yousuggest.. isecretes is out because of the lack of encryption.. 1password doesnt have that great of a description on their page

I, like you, have been looking at an app to store my passwords. In addition, I need to store more information such as cc numbers and such. I was hoping to find an application that can do both.

However, I do understand your frustration in that you are looking for a answer to a specific problem. FWIW, over time I've found that sometimes discussing around the subject reveal a better solution.

So far, SplashID seems to be working okay for me. They seem responsive to customers and have fixed some bugs it seems.

I like that it's available on multiple portable hardware devices plus the desktop.

I will be adding more information this week and testing it some more.
