Hemlock Grove an original show only available streaming on Netflix was mentioned in last week's Entertainment Weekly. Murder mystery/horror involving a werewolf. I'm thinking about starting it.

If anyone is watching, is it good?

The wife and I started Hemlock Grove and watched the first 3 episodes on Netflixs. It's good enough to keep us watching. There are "animal attacks" and supernatural elements, maybe even a little Twin Peaks vibe. I don't care for Famke Janssen with an English accent. :)

3 more episodes watched and it's not the brilliance I would hope for. Still watching though. Two actors from Battlestar Gallactica- Kandyse McClure (Dualla) and Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol).

Is anyone watching Defiance on SciFi Network? I missed the debut in April, just found it on OnDemand. Will watch tonight, but wondering if there are any verdicts out there?

I watched the pilot (1.5hrs) last week and bought the first season on iTunes from a recommendation of a friend. The pilot was alright and I have yet to watch the downloaded episodes waiting for me.

There were a few too many scenes with CGI for my liking, and one in particular that could have easily been done in real life that I thought was just odd.

I watched the 90 minute pilot and it's just another run of the mill SciFi Network show. :-\ The search continues for quality TV! :)

That sums up how I feel about it and why I haven't yet watched any of the follow up episodes - but I will. It's still entertainment though and it's not all bad.

I remember commercials for Terra Nova but never saw any of it. Was it good or good enough to provide believable entertainment?

I believe it was a very expensive production located in Australia. The story premise and beginning was intriguing, but quickly slipped into mediocrity.

Alas, such is the story of most shows. But we're glad to get those rare special shows that captivate us for a while.

One of those for me was Lost. Although it was was critiqued late in it's life, it possessed a rare and special atmosphere along with top notch writing and intrigue, you don't normally find in television.

I started watching Continuum on Netflix. I saw the first episode the other day and started the second one just now. So far it seems good and has potential for continued interest in my watching it.

I'm not looking for spoilers, but has anyone else watched and liked it?

Me too! I've watched the first five so far; the fifth one ended a few minutes ago. I was excited for a futuristic, time-traveling show. But alas, it hasn't lived up to my expectation.

It's still a decent show and I'll continue watching it but it's like most any other show and certainly not at the level of Battlestar Galactica. It's full of super hightech equipment and such but it seems to take a different subplot each episode with the main plot being for her to get back to her time after being sent back 70 years or something while trying to foil some terrorists.

That's my initial impression of it. I hoped for more based on the pilot's premise and have found it to fall in line with your average everyday sci-fi show. It's no BSG, Star Trek, Star Wars, X-Files et al.. to be sure.

----------

I was surprised at how fast that movie moved along. Maybe a bit bloated, but enjoyable all the way through for me.

Just caught up with The Americans on FX. Everytime they come close to being caught, they slither away... frustrating, but it holds my interest. :) I'm enjoying how they are integrating historical events into the story.

I heard good things about The Americans from Steve Gibson on the podcast Security Now the other day. I made add this to my watch list.

Thanks for the report! I'll probably try out the first one... :)

This week caught up with Game of Thrones. My wife thought the last two episodes were boring... not me. On good shows I am content with good human interaction. The sex tides me over until the next battle. ;)

And Vampire Diaries. Eh, it's ok, but now that ----- took the cure, it should be interesting next season at least for a couple of episodes. :)

I'm watching a documentary on the rainforest narrated by James Earl Jones Geoffrey Holder, circa 1992 via Netflix.

I enjoyed the first season very much. Surprisingly good for basic cable.

My boys are watching "Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated" Season 1 on Netflix and I am really enjoying it with them, it's full of references and is fun all around. Not much of a Hanna Barbera fan, but this was well done. Shame they cancelled it right after we started watching it.

Another vote from you on the Americans, that seals it, I'll add it to my list. :)

I didn't know they remade Scooby Doo.

Commercial breaks? I've had TiVo (or another similar DVR) for so long (~15 years) that I forget what live TV can be like...

I am not a very big fan of TV to many commercial breaks.
I mostly wait until I can view the series on DvD.

BBC are soon to send out The White Queen. I for one will be tuning in.:)

And even without TiVo, if you only watch movies on premium movie channels, there are no commercials. The only time I ever see commercials is when I watch Red Sox games...and I do want to see those Live!:D

My wife and I as a rule like English historical dramas. I'll have to look for it.

I remember a time when I thought TiVo recorded and was able to skip the commericals, but then I also remember them being slapped down and thought the capability was removed? I do know most of the shows we watch are recorded (DVR) and I just fast forward through them (the commercials), however we recently just got a TiVo through our cable provider and I assume it will be the same with that.
