No not really. We watched it for about the first two seasons but it did not grab me. But I would not try to dissuade you either. Some personal preferences and dislikes involved. :)

Other shows I like: Dexter, Homeland, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Sopranos, Deadwood, Rome, and Downton Abbey.

I see.

And thanks for the list, never heard of Deadwood actually. It's contemporary? We just spoke about it yesterday in the kitchen :))) so I guess I'll have a look at homeland too in some time. I'm not that much into watching series, but one can't just rewatch Twin Peaks for the next couple of decades, right?

Now that I've caught up on Californication (great this season), I watched 4 episodes on a new TNT medical show last night called Monday Mornings. I'm hooked.

When it debuted, I remember thinking what a cool show Twin Peaks was but now, it's kind of silly. :p

Deadwood, is about Deadwood, North Dakota in the late 1880s. It's an excellent show about the characters who reside there, enforce the law, pull dirty deeds, etc. Tim Olyphant as the Sheriff and Ian McShane as the bar owner are excellent. It lasted for 2 years. Homeland is terrific- a military officer POW who comes back from the desert with an agenda. I forgot to mention The Americans, about Soviet Spies in the U.S. in the 80's is also good.

Really digging Bates Motel on A&E.

What kind of things go on at the Bates Motel?

Told ya so!;)

It's just really clever writing.

Ha, the acting is pretty damn good too. Comedies this old usually are on their way out. This might be the best season yet. It's been renewed for next year.

Very true... Tim Minchin has been hilarious this season. I caught his stage show a few weeks back on one of the movie networks (HBO, SHOWTIME, etc.). He is a really talented and creative dude.

Ian McShane is a superb actor; he was terrific (and suitably menacing) in Deadwood. More recently, he was wonderful when he played a fantastically nasty piece of work (as the corrupt, ambitious and amoral Bishop Waleran Bigod) in the TV adaptation of Ken Follett's best selling book 'The Pillars of the Earth'.

Just watched the third episode of Series 8 of the superb British series "Foyle's War"; excellent, and meticulously researched, as always, but a dark, and thought-provoking story, full of moral ambiguity and seedy compromises.

Am watching "Prometheus".

Ridley Scott is an amazing director!!

Yes he is, as well as James Cameron. There's a reason why Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection weren't that good, especially compared to Alien, Aliens and Prometheus.

Watching the PBS documentary Fabric of the Cosmos. Based on the book of the same title by Brian Greene. If you like space/physics/philosophy it'll interest you.

I would agree about Cameron...with the exception of "Titanic". :D

IMO...totally without any redeeming value...a bloated mistake.

Agree completely. A totally over-rated and astonishingly vapid movie.

If you want to see a movie about the sinking of the Titanic, the old 1958 classic 'A Night To Remember' (with the inimitable Kenneth More, among other excellent British actors) is beautifully filmed and has the additional merit of giving us an even-handed (and historically accurate) story.

A terrific film! Was that the one with Clifton Webb??

I believe there was one earlier film on the subject, but I don't remember the title, and won't look now because I want to watch this movie. I remember liking that version, too.

Looked it up..."Titanic", 1953. I really liked that depiction, too.

I was surprised at how fast that movie moved along. Maybe a bit bloated, but enjoyable all the way through for me.

Just caught up with The Americans on FX. Everytime they come close to being caught, they slither away... frustrating, but it holds my interest. :) I'm enjoying how they are integrating historical events into the story.

Just finished watching episode 4 of the Borgias, season 3! Brilliant series if you haven't caught it, relatively accurate historically, with the story and character embellishments you expect with commercial TV in this day and age.

Hannibal has proven to be really good also.

Just finished the season finale of the History Channel's new series Vikings. It was pretty good. Apparently the story is based on a true historical viking and his exploits.

We tried it as a "historical drama", but it did not take. Too much action, not enough history. I blame my wife. ;)
