Anyone watching Sweet Tooth (Netflix)- and enjoying it? We watched Episode 1 last night and am not convinced to continue. Listed as No.10 on Netflix.

Watched two episodes and stopped, it's well made and a decent story but the plot is a bit tired and uninteresting. Essentially another dystopian survival show but with hybrid animal/humans. It has racism against the otherwise antlered, post apocalyptic gangs and the standard trope of various side stories.

However, if this sort of thing is appealing to you I would say it's probably worth watching all the way through, the quality and production value are both pretty good.

Did anyone watch Manifest (2018-20) when it was on NBC? Please avoid spoilers just want to know if you think it is worthy.

It has a Lost vibe, but is nothing like Lost. It recently dropped on Netflix, the first two episodes are good. A plane full of people leaves the Caribbean on a return flight to NYC and when they land, discover that it is 5 years later. …and some strange things are happening allowing some (all?) of the passengers to help others in need, while the government is keeping tabs on them to some unknown degree.

Reference Sweet Tooth, 1 episode was enough for me. 🤔

Watched the first two seasons. Season three is about to start. It’s watchable. Yes similar to Lost.

Manifest Cancelled After 3 Seasons

It left a lot of questions unanswered and ended on a cliffhanger. So, I wouldn't bother at this point.

Behind Her Eyes (2021 Netflix)- Psychological thriller +, and a twist. A guy, his wife, the third woman, and a best friend. Who to believe? Who is being manipulated? Who is the nutter? The story relies on a spiritual theory/mechanism, I can’t say more. It held my interest, but I did not buy the ending.

I thought this was awesome. Advised some friends to watch it....very well done and what an ending!

My wife has been watching different old shows on different Sling TV channels for example The Andy Griffith Show (Sundance TV) which I still love and can watch, and I saw an ad for Hogan’s Heroes another show the family enjoyed when I was a teen, but I looking back on it, it’s kind of hard to believe someone thought a comedy set in a WWII prison camp would be funny. I mean at the time it was kind of a funny with the “brilliant” allied prisoners of war making the Germans look like idiots. As a ridiculous farce it kind of works, but I don’t think I could not enjoy it today. I think I’d prefer to see Springtime for Hitler (a Mel Brooks Producers ref) :)

I just started watching this week... about half way through season one... don't get the Lost vibe at all... still trying to sort through the whole government conspiracy theme... and while it's been a bit predictable, it's still worth the effort, IMO.

Evil (2019-)
We have been watching Evil, currently on Season 2 and just renewed for Season 3. What a great show. Acting is amazing (Michael Emerson is an incredible actor), the plot is compelling, and all the various characters are perfectly balanced. Some of the elements are quite disturbing, and many of the episodes are not predictable. Of course the series is affected by some X-Files vibe (most notably: is it true? did it actually happen?) because they can't provide too many answers at this point. I love the various debates between the characters and how each event is seen through the lenses of the beholder.

One important note is about this series' accuracy. While there's obviously some dramatization and simplification, they get Catholic main doctrine about evil and exorcisms correct. As someone who read Father Amorth's books (he was the head exorcist at the Vatican) and is a practicing Catholic, it is clear that the producers and writers truly studied the various elements. Independently of ones beliefs, this is important for a TV series. My understanding is that even the psychiatrist/psychological stuff is spot on. Of course, I repeat, there's some dramatization; it's a TV series after all. Father Amorth stressed that although weird things happened in some exorcism, in most of the cases it was just like blessing a "normal" individual without spinning heads, vomit, or anything else.

There was a show in 2009 called FlashForward that is similar in theme to Manifest. In FlashForward, 99.99% of the world experienced a simultaneous blackout... only a handful of people were "awake" during the blackout... FlashForward was cancelled after only one season.

I just watched the first episode of Mike White's latest work, The White Lotus, about a hotel, its guests and employees in Hawaii on HBO. I like seeing some favorite familiar actors like Steve Zahn and Jennifer Coolidge. It's kind of weird and I imagine it's going to get a lot weirder, which I like, and I look forward to the next 5 episodes.

Watching Absentia (2017-2020 AXN, watching on Prime Video) 3 Seasons total, about an FBI agent who goes missing during an investigation for 6 years, presumed dead, and then resurfaces with a call to her husband and they find her in a tank of water* on the verge of drowning. Obviously she is a victim of some fiendish plot, suffering from PTSD, but there is more to the story. Her husband also an FBI agent has remarried, and her son is being raised by him and his new wife, awkward…

*No, she has not been in a tank of water for 6 years.

My critique of this story is that in a situation like this the husband, first and second wife should have some serious discussions about what is next for the 3 of them, and it seems like that is glossed over. Maybe other viewers feel different, but what a tough situation from a personal relationship standpoint.

The series is watchable, not as good as Bosch. I’ll say that the mystery of her dissapearence Is resolved in Season 1 and Season 2:

with her back at the FBI and continues with new cases and her continued adjustment, she is a bit screwed up.

Designated Survivor (ABC/Netflix 2016-19)- This bingeble thriller series starts with a literal bang as virtually all of members of Congress, the Administration, and SCOTUS die in a bombing attack on the Capitol, during a State of the Union address, leaving 2 Designated Survivors. The HUD Secretary finds himself as President of the United States walking into a viper’s nest. The kicker is who pulled the trigger??

Season 2- After the agent goes on an overseas spy mission, I quit watching. The mystery of her absence is solved in Season1 and this change of pace did not grab me.

I don't remember when I quit, but it came at a point where if I wanted to watch people doing stupid things on a Kiefer Sutherland show, I could just watch 24 again.

At least that show had some memorable supporting characters. But Jack Bauer's ultimate fate, as it stands, is still unsettling, and not in tune with the show.

Heck, the same producers didn't leave Carrie Matheson to rot in a Russian prison, why is Jack?

Verdict?

Well ... I've watched three episodes and I'm not jumping at watching the fourth, although I will soon. Set as a whodunit satire, I'm squirming at how awful most of the wealthy hotel guest characters reveal themselves to be. If viewer discomfort was part of Mike White's intention, it hits that mark. The writing and acting is very good. It's hard not to wonder how far the character development will go or ultimately who did the deed. I'd love to see outtakes eventually.

I've been watching The White Lotus too. Oddly, on the surface, very little about the show compels me to keep watching, but I do. It's filled with (intentionally) unlikeable characters and there's an odd disconnect between the stories. It's not plot-driven at all, but purely character development, which I sometimes find boring but here it's kind of intriguing. And the music is perfection.

IIRC, I made it through through the first season, and a bit into the second before it was evident that the show was heading in a different direction. There was no shortage of turmoil behind the scenes on that show, and most of the time, it does no favors to the end product.
