Of interest post no.1 mentions Downton Abbey (PBS)- and today my wife discovered this series on The BritBox App (subscription) available for viewing. What a great show where a missing snuff box makes for the highest of drama! :D

Oh indeed, Downton Abbey is very good. Maggie Smith's character gets a lot of good lines and of course you can tell she had fun with it. I've watched it through a couple of times, and probably need to let it rest a year or two before another re-watch. Good long winter fare.

Upload (2020 Prime Video)- The concept is that in the future technology exists that can record your consciousnes, your memories, and when you are on death’s door, it can be uploaded to a virtual space, where you can basically live forever, well, have self awareness in what equates to a retirement resort. Except in this story, there is a mystery why the person who died, died n a mysterious accident. He’s in the VR and developes a relationship with the live person who is monitoring him.

2 episodes in, and it’s interesting but has not really hooked me yet. My primary critique is that there are some elderly people in the virtual space and even though they say you can have any avatar you want, I have no clue why anyone would pick an old version of themselves to exist as.

Roman Empire (2016-2019) Netflix- Two episodes in and this is an excellent series, part enactments and part documentary, with ample nudity :):), and historians commenting on events periodically. I’ll assume this is an accurate history shown.

The series starts with Marcus Aurelius (121- 180AD) and his son Commodus. If you watched Gladiator (2000) so far no Spaniard, and no snuffing the old man with a pillow. ;) On the Germanic Frontier, the old man died of Antonine Plague that knocked the Roman Empire back on it’s heals. After Aurelius dies, Commodus says to hell with this decade+ long war, signs a treaty with the Germanic Tribes and heads for Rome as Emperor.

And for those who watched Rome (HBO) this is approx 200 years after Julius Caesar. ;)

Finished Season 1, not great but good enough to continue when Season 2 pops up.

I am sure WandaVision gets better, it has to, after the first 2 episodes I am thinking to hold off until they have all been released, because the first two drug out a bit for me. Especially episode 2.

I must watch this!!!!!

Update:
  • Upload- gave up on it.
  • Altered Carbon- too dark, hard to follow, I did not care.

The Sinner

Holy smokes (pun sort of intended ... :D), it's fantastic. I'd say if you liked S1 of True Detective, Mindhunters, it's definitely worth your time.

From Wikipedia:

Watched the first 6 EPs, finishing it tonight. S2 has been ordered, it will be a different story, don't want to say much as it could spoil S1.

Originally aired on USA Network (of all places), but S1 is currently on Netflix.
I don’t know when it became available on Netflix, but Season 3 is now available. :)

I enjoyed Upload when it was first released, but recently tried re-watching it, and couldn't get through more than the first episode because it just felt annoying. For the life of me, I don't know why I thought it was decent the first time.

My wife and I have been watching "Resident Alien" on SyFy and it is one of our favorite shows. My wife describes it as a darker "Mork & Mindy". It stars Alan Tudyk as the resident alien who crash lands on earth. His portrayal of someone who doesn't quite grasp human norms is so funny and spot on. We have had to pause the TV because we are laughing so hard.

This is one of my favourite shows at the moment. Very silly but very funny.

Behind Her Eyes (2021 Netflix)- Psychological thriller +, and a twist. A guy, his wife, the third woman, and a best friend. Who to believe? Who is being manipulated? Who is the nutter? The story relies on a spiritual theory/mechanism, I can’t say more. It held my interest, but I did not buy the ending.

Away (2020 Netflix Series)- Space mission to Mars. I’m in 3 episodes and enjoying this. The series has relatively low critic and audience ratings at Rotten Tomatoes, and was cancelled after 1 season, so I can’t vouch for it yet. There are some interesting dynamics between the International crew.

Finished the series, I enjoyed it, would have continued watching if it had not been cancelled.
