Saw the iTunes free download and kind of liked it. I think that the premise is intriguing but the dialogue was stiff and the character development was too abstracted.

I can agree the dialogue was stiff. For a while there I was having trouble understanding the "English" from the primary characters, but the character development within the framework of the story was acceptable to me. It deserves more viewing before I'll know if it is a keeper. :)

I have watched a lot of good shows on my Roku, like:

Sons of Anarchy
The Killing
Homeland
The Shield
NYPD Blue
The Wire
Walking Dead

I have indulged in the bolded titles.

You know..

There really isn't much on TV anymore that just screams to me "You MUST watch this!!!!" I mean, Heroes honestly was it. The rest is great, but something that I couldn't wait until it hits Amazon Prime or Netflix, or just buy the box set.

Right now, the big thing that I'm watching is Finding Your Roots on PBS. Lately, people have been looking to TV for entertainment, shock and awe, and a break from reality (which funnily enough, they look at reality TV). There isn't much as far as education or enrichment that isn't propagandized or constantly repeated (yes, I'm looking at you, History channel and the 18 bazillion shows about WW2). But seeing how people are figuring out where they come from, and also providing the means for others to do the same. I never really thought about how interesting genealogical research could be. Highly educational.

Did you feel that way about Heroes at the end? ;) Amazon Prime, check out Orphan Black Season 1 before Season 2 starts in April.

At the end? no, I didn't. In fact, the strike by the Writer's guild killed the show. I believe they were in the right, and the networks were wrong, but that's neither here or there; the fact that it happened and disrupted the continuity and depth of the plot really killed the show. The only show out there right now that is keeping it that intricate is Once Upon a Time.

I don't know how NBC is going to pull off the Heroes: The Rebirth miniseries, because they left a lot unanswered, let alone lost way too much momentum.

I'll give a few episodes of Orphan Black a shot.

Original characters in it or are they restaffing?

Just finished up season 1 of Breaking Bad finally. OMG :D.

Right now making it through season 1 of Portlandia. Hilarious.

There was a show on NBC or ABC a while back called Who Do You Think You Are?, which had the same basic premise: celebrities looking up parts of their family tree. I found it really interesting when it first came out, but it was only on for 1 season. TLC picked it up a while later, but I never got back into it. One episode that stands out in my memory was where Brooke Shields found her ancestors among French royalty.

I saw a commercial for
Extant earlier, it seems like it might be interesting. Starring Halle Barry and produced by Steven Spielberg. Starts in June.

In a thrilling drama, Berry will play an astronaut who returns home from a year-long solo mission in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son in their everyday life. Her experiences in space and home lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history.

Wow, what a hook! :D

I'm 3 episodes into True Detective. I've heard rave review about this series, so I'm giving it a watch. But aside from the as-expected great acting and star cast, the story isn't very interesting, and the pace is pretty slow so far.

HIMYM finale. No one?

The show was damn good for 5-6 years. Watched more out of habit than anything else the past few seasons but thoroughly enjoyed the finale.

haven't watched the finale yet but over the last years it really suffered in the writing (more average episodes)

the first 4 seasons were fantastic
5 was good
6-7 weren't too great
8 was ok
9th was (because of it's 1 day till the wedding setup) way better than those before

they aren't the only comedy show suffering: Big Bang Theory really went downhill after the 3rd season. the difference is way worse than with HIMYM

Does anyone watch The Following? I saw the first season shortly before the second season premiered earlier this year, and I thought it was shocking and disturbing, and they kept it interesting. However, I can't watch season 2 anymore. It's just become mindless and sickening now.

I'm 3 episodes into True Detective..

True Detective was the best thing on TV since Breaking Bad.

Don't rush to judgement on the show. The story takes its time working up to speed, but the wait is worth it. Don't spoil it for yourself by looking up spoilers online. But the characters follow believable arcs, and pretty much everything makes sense. There is some outstanding acting, great cinematography, a compelling story, and a decent amount of mystery. Don't overthink the show, like some TV-critics smart guys did. But its still a pretty intelligent cop show.

I'll definitely finish up the rest of the season, as I'd heard great things. Thankfully, I haven't read or heard any spoilers. I'll let you know what I think after I finish the next 5 episodes. :)

I enjoyed it, and on balance I think it was a decent ending. My only gripe is that that final half (i.e. ep24) had some pretty big moments and felt a bit rushed. Which was a bit frustrating considering that anything even remotely related to the wedding was forgettable and simply filler.

You had time to explain guys!

Plowing through the first season of Girls; just finished watching season three of Girls last night with my wife :).

I'm reminded of a bomb produced by SS called Tera Nova so I'm in wait and see mode. :p

That's true, there are no guarantees just because there's a big name attached... :p But I've noticed a shift, where more movie stars are coming to TV (Halle Barry, Matthew McConaughey, Kevin Spacey, Julia Roberts, etc.). Film-to-TV used to be considered a step down career-wise, but it looks like things are changing now.

How is Believe now? I haven't watched it since the pilot episode, but its been a few weeks since then, and I'm considering revisiting it.

I finished up True Detective season 1 this week, and the finale was great. I thought the first 5-6 episodes were too slow, almost boring, as a crime-solving story, but then I realized that its actually a show about character development more than the actual detective work. I think its after that realization that I began enjoying it.

When they first started, I was really enthusiastic about Resurrection and liked Believe, but thought the former was better. Now, Resurrection is starting to drag a little although I'm still into the story and want things to start popping. Believe has actually gotten better relative to Resurrection, but I mentioned in the dedicated Believe thread, that the kid on her quests to help people can be a bit annoying. I say that while I realize this aspect of her character is central to the story in some manner. So I'm still hanging in there with both of them. :D

Lost Magic Decoded on History channel. Two hours of really impressive magic tricks. I'm sure there is a trick, but it's not apparent by any means.

One is a match box with a hole through the middle. An audience member (who may or may not be) shows the inside of the box as being empty. They slide the the box and the cover together, the helper pushes a single magic through the hole showing there is nothing to stop it. Magic, poof, and when he sets the box down, it has a heavy thunk. Inside the box is a piece of gold that fills the entire interior of the box, that he lets drop out onto the table. Impressive.

The Indian rope trick where, the Indian magician (from India) shows the audience the rope, and the empty basket, coils it up in a basket that he has just sat down on a patch of ground in a village (in India) he is visiting. This is not in a studio. The rope climbs out of the basket 20' stiff enough that his son can climb it and after his son comes down, he commands the rope and the stiff rope just goes limp and collapses. That was amazing. The only thing I could imagine is a prepared plot of ground with a 20' piston sunk into the ground, but based on the setting, that would seem on the elaborate side.

Anyone know the answers? I'm sure the magicians among us will not spill the beans. ;)

This show has intrigued me. Actually, I have read really positive reviews in the 'quality' press, written by reviewers whose writing I respect, and now, here, you guys also recommend this show quite strongly. Okay, I'll make a point of tracking it down when I am next home.

The first season was very creepy/unnerving, but season 2 is pretty awful in a variety of ways. I stopped watching weeks ago. As much as I enjoy Kevin and James as actors, I really hope this is not renewed for a third season as it already feels like the writers have run out of ideas and are just pushing the sicko button.

Saw an ad for Penny Dreadful starting on May 11, Showtime, labeled as a psychological/horror thriller. Anyone have any interest in this or know about it? I'll probably catch the first episode to evaluate.
