The Leftovers- I've signed off.

Did you see that last couple of EPs? Holy smokes, The Guest (EP 6) was a stunning bit of television (A @ AVC [highest rating], 9.4 @ IGN)

Solace for Tired Feet (EP7) was pretty terrific too (B+ @ AVC, 9.0 @ IGN) , Scott Glenn is always a treat, so good in this, the scene in the diner was spectacular.

I’ve been a bit up and down, but these last two episodes were as good as anything on TV.

[edit]

Just realized I quoted you twice in a few minutes, in two different threads. I feel like I’m stalking you ...

Yes, it's not going to end happily ever after is it?

Doesn't seem like it. It looks like the story lines have a some sort of finality to them, not leaving it open for future projects. I'm pretty sure one of the main characters will die; they already killed Tara and Mrs. Fortenberry, so it's hardly a stretch.

I'm caught up now on The Leftovers, but I still feel the same about it, which is hard to describe. The closest I can compare this to is how I feel when I watch a David Lynch film.

I want to know what happened, but everything just seems so damn random.

No, I've missed those, but once I discovered this was a story without answers (at least the book is reported to be), I lost interest. Maybe the producers will see fit to insert an answer, lol. I figured Scott Glen would be pretty good. At this point in time, there is absolutely nothing on that is blowing me away. I can take or leave all of the titles I mentioned even Masters of Sex, while acknowledging it's goodness. ;)

No worries on stalking. :)

Is anyone watching AMC's Halt and Catch Fire?

Got lots of Apple, IBM, and other companies playing in the script's background and in general, it is greatly written & executed. Maybe more tears played out than necessary at some points, but all in all, highly recommended

I've seen a few episodes and it's not bad. Don't get too attached as I've heard it may not get renewed because of poor ratings.

Bojack Horseman: Another Netflix Gem

Confession: I just binge-watched all twelves episodes of the just-released Netflix animated series Bojack Horseman.

Voiced by Will Arnett, Bojack is a washed-up 90's sitcom star (who happens to be a horse) living in an alternate-universe world where humans live comfortably with anthropomorphized animals. (Weird it sounds, but trust me - it works).

His slacker roommate (think latter-day Kaeto Kalin) Todd, voiced by Aaron Paul, riffs on another version of Jesse Pinkman. And Amy Sedaris, as a pink cat/Hollywood super agent rounds out the cast. Oh, and there's Alison Brie playing a Vietnamese-American ghostwriter.

Honestly: I haven't laughed so hard at a TV series for a long time. The 12 half-hour episodes convey a hilarious send-up of celebrity culture, modern American life, and just about everything you can think of. Also - the episodes all gel to create a strangely satisfying story arc.

Definitely worth a look if you have a Netflix subscription. And interested to hear from French, German, Spanish and Brazilian Netflix viewers if the story (and voiced by different actors) worked there too.

Hmm, I might have to look for that. :)

Just finished season 1 of Portlandia. it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but it wasn't bad. Some of the jokes are a little bizarre, and that is what the show is famous for, no doubt. Fred and Carrie work really well together, and I'm not surprised the show has gone on for this long.

Emmys. Man, it would have been nice if any Sherlock actor showed up. After all, Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch are blowing up here.

Just started The Sopranos. :)

By far my favorite TV show ever. Every actor nails each brilliant script.

Edit: That's not good enough. The Soprano reinvented television. The seasons play like miniseries with great story arcs and a crazy cast of characters, with James Gandolfini as the best tragic hero at the center. Nothing else compares.

I don't know how anyone likes Breaking Bad. I've tried to watch that show 5 times, and each time I thought it was bad

It's a great show with a handful of flaws. The biggest one being Anna Gunn. Not a good actress by any stretch of the imagination. It had its ups and downs, but I'm not inspired to watch it again.
