My thoughts of the new Fall lineup premieres from the last couple weeks:

Gotham - I had high hopes for this but the pilot didn't quite live up to expectations. It may be interesting though if they keep with the villain-origins stories. I'll stick with it for a few more episodes before deciding.

Forever - Enjoyed the first couple episodes so far. The story is twisty enough to keep me watching for now. The acting by the supporting cast isn't very good though.

How To Get Away With Murder also started off pretty interesting, putting a somewhat new twist on the stale crime-solving procedural. Another series I'll give a further viewing.

Also watched the first 1-2 episodes of Madam Secretary, Mysteries of Laura, Black-ish, and Scorpion, but wasn't impressed with any of them.

Upcoming shows that look good from the previews: Stalker and The Flash

Thanks for the report! I've seen nothing so far to be excited about.

My wife and I just got sucked in to the newer episodes of Dr. Who. I sorta skipped out of the original run of the series, especially when they went on the long hiatus, but looking at the new episodes, that show got real, in a Battlestar Galactica meets Voyagers type of way, with an Annie/Oliver Twist twist to it.

Probably some of the best sci-fi I've seen since ST:TNG, DS9, and Voyager ended.

What's funny about it is that we got sucked into it because we cloth diaper, and one of the places we buy ours from hand-sews them for her business. Not bad stuff, either:

And yes, Tardis engraved on the buttons. :)

Would that be 2014 episodes? Where are you watching them?

Best. Diaper. Ever. :D

Yeah, I was aware of the 2005 “reboot” since I used to watch the old series (started when I was really young and they showed them in the US on Sunday mornings), never really followed it much beyond the Pertwee and Baker series, but there are some great episodes outside of theirs like Tomb of the Cybermen (Troughton) and Caves of Androzani (Davison).

So I started with the reboot series about 3-4 years or so late, (by then, the first few series were on Netflix), and wow, just immediately loved it! It was everything I dug about the original series, but with a nice modern update. Eccleston, Tennant, Smith, they’ve done amazing work with the modern incarnation - just as off-his-rockers fun, but with a nice bit of darkness that really conveys what this character would be like in the “real world” given his past.

Netflix has everything up through the last Smith EPs of just this past series, and BBCA shows the new ones on Saturday night (also available through various cable VODs).

Fun FYI: the 3rd Doctor, Jon Pertwee’s son Sean is Alfred in the new Gotham series (holy smokes does he look like his Dad!)

Nope.. the entire reboot, and trying to get caught up. Netflix/Amazon Video has them; for Amazon, free if on Prime.

I'm just happy that the new season of NCIS: LA starts tonight

Already set in the DVR. hopefully Bacula can keep this series going. The last few have been hard on him (Quantum Leap, ST: Enterprise).

Either way, I still miss Cote de Pablo (Ziva). yummy.

Watching some episodes of Homeland, season 3 finally.

Yes. I finally made it through Season Three.

Most of the TV critics I respect seem to have come to roughly the same conclusion as I did about Homeland: a frequently great show marred by bizarre plot diversions. There is some disagreement as to whether or not things hit a nadir in Season 2 or the early parts of Season 3. All I can say is stick through the rough spots and work your way to the end of S3: I won't say it all makes sense, but it does come to a reasonably satisfying conclusion.

The good news is that Season 4 starts this Sunday on Showtime, with two one-hour episodes. And the reviews I've read have been generally very positive. Apparently the story has survived the departure of Sgt. Brody and a couple of love stories that way outstayed their welcome.

I've enjoyed all episodes so far, despite some odd twists.

Aren't all the episodes 1 hour?

You obviously have a better sense of humor than I do...:p

I think there was one 90-minute episode in there sometime. Most of the episodes run between 48 and 55 minutes. Some are a little longer. Part of the joys on non-network TV is that the writers and directors don't have to shoehorn a story into a set amount of time.

I'm still not entirely sure why we really needed the whole Dana Brody story arc. Sure, it sucks when it turns out your dad is the world's most-wanted terrorist. But we probably could have guessed that. I really would have preferred it if they explored the goings on at Caracas "Tower of David" a little more deeply. I thought Erik Todd Dellums (the character-actor who played the creepy Doctor who treated Brody) was a pearl beyond price in an otherwise so-so part of the story.

I think I'm only about 3 or 4 episodes into season 3 so far. I agree that they probably don't need to chronicle the life of Dana and her problems and could have spent more time on Brody and how he got to Caracas and why they want to keep him there. (Maybe that's explored in later episodes, but please don't tell me!) What happened when he crossed into Canada at the end of season 2 and how did he get to Venezuela are stuff I wanted to see.

I assume Intruders has a supernatural theme?

Yes, and its showrunner is Glen Morgan from the X-Files.

I won't give it away, the first episode and a half are a bit confusing, but that's a reflection of the confusion the characters face when confronted with their emerging situation and once they start to figure it out it begins to be flow better.

Worth a binge watch since it's only 8 episodes.

I just finished up season two of The Bridge and it was awesome. Sonya capturing Eleanor Nacht was fabulous. And Fausto Galvan in jail too. Quite a good wrap up. I still need to see season one however.

Watching some episodes of Homeland, season 3 finally.

I still need to catch up on seasons 2 and 3 badly.

Watched a few more of the new shows:

Stalker - This is one of the shows I was really looking forward to watching. The pilot was a bit interesting, but ultimately, it was nothing new (typical procedural drama). To be honest, it was a bit of a letdown.

I also watched the series premieres of Selfie, Bad Judge and Manhattan Love Story, and won't be watching anymore episodes of them. Is it just me being too picky or has this been a lackluster lineup of Fall debuts?

On the docket for next week: Flash and AHS: Freak Show
