There is not much on US TV that has impressed me in recent - um - decades (okay, apart from ST, STNG, DS9, etc), but, I must admit that Band of Brothers did do it for me.

An excellent - and historically meticulous (and I am - as a professional historian, a little bit anal on such matters) series. One with superb production values, and one well worth watching.

Superb story telling, faithful to history, and to what actually happened. And, it is faithful, too, to both the tales of the US military (the 'citizen soldier' narrative so beloved of Stephen E. Ambrose) and to the wider historical narrative (and I am one of those who are horribly aware of, and sensitive to - and reluctant to subscribe to - those stories which take liberties with historical facts).

Anyway, enjoy your viewing: I thought that series excellent when I saw it around a decade and a half ago.

I had played several WWII combat games, Call of Duty or Medal of Honor, and one of the missions was to disable artillery implacements, so I was surprised when BoB was revealed to provide the source material.

Watched Episode 1 of The Man in The High Castle an interesting alternate reality story (story written by Philip Dick) on Amazon Prime where the West lost WWII, Germany dropped the bomb somewhere in the U.S. (I think), the U.S. is divided between Japan in the West and Germany in the East, it takes place in the 1962 (when the novel wa published), and the significant twist, a news real is discovered by the resistance, showing the West won the war. So... Wha? ;)

Good enough to keep watching! Only 2 episodes have been released, all will be released on 20Nov2015.

More careless history. (Sorry…for being so anal about minor matters of historical fact..)

Yes, but, to my mind, the real question (as in the sort of alternative history - and, I have no quarrel with that if it is done in an intellectually believable or credible manner) is, the German (under the Nazi regime) attitude to the Jewish community (which also included Jewish scientists, who, frankly, were at the cutting edge of what were such discoveries as had taken place in physics, chemistry and so on..) .

Frankly, historically, Germany was
never going to drop that kind of bomb anywhere in the world, not once they had expelled, exiled, or, otherwise suppressed, most of the top scientists in the country (an embarrassing number of whom turned out to have been Jewish, a bit of a problem for a country which had defined itself by a national identity predicated on an austere take on Aryan notions of what was national identity).

If you want - or wish - to threaten - the world, exiling or expelling, most of your country's best scientists - can hardly be considered an inspired move...

What's on TV? Apple Music most of the time, except on weekends.

Iowa wrestles Oklahoma State Saturday in Kinnick stadium...if the weather holds. There's 35k tickets sold so far. After the meet they pull the mat off for the Iowa - Minnesota game.

Referring to TMITHC, you are making me counter it's not careless, it's alternative history science fiction with a huge twist, there is some evidence that a different history, the history we are familiar with took place, but was eradicated along the way. Btw, this is not much of a spoiler as this aspect of the story was used as a hook in the trailer.

Germany had a WWII nuclear program, with brilliant scientists, and if several factors had been different, if they had not over reached, if they had not wasted so much energy with their Jewish Problem, and if they had not tried to conquer all of Europe, their bomb could have been achievable so is there a reason to be irritated? It's called alternative history for a reason. :D The US, Great Britian, Russia, and whoever else scrambled to scoop up German scientists as fast as they could so the potential was there. But the important point is that hat we are not discussing actual history here. :)

Yes, but my point was that if they hadn't caused some of their very best scientists to flee the country and seek asylum elsewhere (such as the US) - precisely because they were Jewish - Germany could well have developed the Bomb earlier. Some of the brilliant physicists who worked on the development of the Bomb in the US were refugees from Nazi Germany and from Nazi controlled Europe.

Their idiotic policy was actually self-destructive, but their leadership were too blindly devoted to an insane ideology to even begin to realise this.

I have no problem with alternative history if it is properly done.

We are currently binging on "The Flash." What a great freaking show! We are half way through season one.
Is it really that good? I've previously not been interested in any of the CW superhero shows like Arrow and The Flash. I just didn't know if the quality would be any good. That being said I did watch the show "The 100" on CW and found it entertaining.

I will admit I have not watched Arrow at all. I didn't even watch The Flash until yesterday. Yes it is that good. Believe it or not Kevin Smith's podcast is what turned me on to it. He was in the same boat I was about the super hero shows on the CW. He watched the first episode and then binged it. Watched the first episode and was like yup. Hooked. It is a hero of the week right now, but they also mix in the on going plot/arch in ever episode. It all mixes together. It is good. Again, I had no interest in it at all.

Loved DareDevil and can't wait for Jessica Jones.

Well, @Huntn, I suppose that you - and everyone else, (at least, those of us who were taught English grammar properly) will remember the lessons on comparative and superlative adjectives, when used as modifiers for nouns, and recall the sentences we would be asked to come up with to show how we had mastered the topic.

So, I am sorry that Downton Abbey has come to an end (last Sunday was the final episode in Season Six).

And, I am sorrier still, that only one final, final, episode remains to be broadcast: That is, of course, the Christmas special.

However, I am sorriest of all that next year will not see a further series recorded in the first half of the year - which would have been broadcast in the UK from September……..although, for a variety of reasons, - mostly through having been posted abroad at the time - the only two seasons that I caught in their entirety were the first one in 2010, and last year's…..

Lol, well I'm looking forward to Jan and should be able to commiserate with you a couple of months later. :)

What about something like Netflix, Roku, or Apple TV that can watched on the tv?

In a bizarre, paradoxical way, I actually almost envy you @Huntn, because you will be sitting down in January and can enjoy eight nice episodes to come……..and then the ninth, to bring it to a conclusion.

Anyway, I hope hat you enjoy it when it does get broadcast Across The Pond in January.

I find it surprising that DA is not shown on BBC America in the Fall, but this is possibly due to the contact they have with PBS (an assumption).

DareDevil showed what is capable with good ideas and a small budget. I'll crank up The Flash and look forward to JJ.
