I watched the first episode. It was decent, but I don't really think that I would have liked it. Loved the actors though. Especially Ray Stevenson. Thought that he was amazing as Isaak Sirko in Dexter.

Also, what's the relationship between Pullo and Vorenus in this show? I heard that they were best friends. I studied the mini-episode of the Gallic Wars by Caesar that focuses on these two, and they are shown as feirce rivals who had endless disputes, but end up working together in battle.

Rome- Well, the first episode shows they have an adversarial relationship, but they grow on each other as time passes. It was sad that after Rome, Stevenson seemed to be offered and played several sub-par tough guy side-kick roles. He was excellent in Dexter, and pretty good, but type cast again in The Book of Eli, which is one of my favorite movies.

Battle of the Planets. I fondly remember watching this on Saturday mornings. I was only able to force my family to watch two episodes, and we all gave up on it. Hard to believe it rates 7.7/10 on IMDB. That has to be nostalgia.

Rome Season 1 Episode 3- After being accused of being a traitor for refusing to disband his legions, Julius Caesar rapidly closes on Rome, and Pompey Magnus assuming Caesar will attack, decides the prudent move is to abandon Rome until he can get his forces organized for a counter assault. Before leaving, in an astounding move, he makes a public declaration that anyone who does not leave Rome with him, is an enemy of Rome.

Generally speaking this is a serious drama, but... Vorenous who has reunited with his wife whom he married when she was 13, but then left for 7 years to fight with the Roman legions, asks Pullo for some advice on how to make a woman happy. It's the source of several chuckles or eye rolls such as, make little noises to pretend like you're listening to her. The funniest is when he speaks about making love to a women, your wife has, describing a certain part of her anatomy to pay particular attention to, and Vorenous stops short, angering asking, you've been with my wife?! :)

Find the original anime series, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman - it's _so_ much better. I loved BOTP too, when I was growing up, then when I tracked it down years later, I discovered the original.

This is a good explanation of the differences:

Key changes in the adaptation[edit]

The Battle of the Planets adaptation differs significantly from Gatchaman.[5] The difference is due to heavy editing made to make the show appealing to the audience in the United States by removing controversial elements (i.e. graphic violence, profanity and transgenderism) while adding elements reminiscent of the feature film Star Wars, which was popular at the time. In fact the name "Battle of the Planets" was an attempt to associate itself with that popularity of Star Wars. While the original Gatchaman was earthbound, dark-toned, and environmentally themed, the adaptation morphed it into a kid-friendly outer space show with robot characters, although some environmental themes were kept, and this is also why the other planets to which G-Force traveled on missions looked very much like Earth. Setting, violence, objectionable language, and most character fatalities were altered or eliminated by cutting scenes, dubbing, and explanatory voiceovers (for instance, claiming that the city had been evacuated before a battle scene that would show the incidental destruction of buildings and houses, as well as explaining away the destruction of the Earth armies and air forces as being robot tanks and fighter planes).[6][7]

One of the most notable changes in the BotP adaptation involves the character Keyop (Jinpei in Gatchaman), who picked up a bizarre verbal tic of stuttering, chirping, and burbling every time he started to speak. There was a longstanding fan rumor that this was done because the original character spoke using much profanity and that Keyop's excess mouth motion would cover up deleting the words. This was not true, as demonstrated by the existence of an unedited Gatchaman version released by ADV Films in the USA, in which Keyop rarely if ever used profanity. The in-story explanation for Keyop's unique manner of speech is that he is an artificial life form with a speech impediment because of slightly defective genetic engineering.[8]

The main villain, known as Zoltar in BotP, had an unusual background due to the hermaphroditic nature of the original Berg Katse character. In an episode where Katse's female half was featured (BotP title: "The Galaxy Girls"), she was introduced as a separate character, Zoltar's sister, for BotP. (A hint of her actual nature was retained in the name she used when masquerading as a human, Mala Latroz—"Latroz" is an anagram of "Zoltar.")[8]

To compensate for the other differences, a robot named 7-Zark-7 performed explanatory voiceovers and light comic relief, which not only padded the time lost from editing but also filled in the gaps in the story line. This device bears the influence of contemporary Star Wars film, with 7-Zark-7 having a visual appearance not dissimilar from R2-D2, and a somewhat campy personality in the style of C-3PO. Notionally, 7-Zark-7 ran the undersea monitoring station Center Neptune, from where he received information regarding incoming threats to Earth and relayed that information to G-Force. Zark and other added characters, such as 1-Rover-1, Zark's robotic dog (who could hover from one side of the control room to the other by spinning his tail like a propeller, Muttley-style) and Susan (the early-warning computer whose sultry feminine voice often sent Zark into paroxysms) added to the cartoon's youth appeal. Some additional footage was also animated showing G-Force members (using their Gatchaman model sheets) interacting with Zark, helping his addition blend more smoothly into the existing Gatchaman footage (although there is a clear difference in quality between the Zark and the Gatchaman animation).

I'd read the wiki, but it didn't suggest that Team Gatchaman was that much better. I may give those a shot (without the family present, just in case).

Removing the silly added in robot bridge scenes, adding back the adult content, it's definitely better, but, hahaha, I don't want to over sell it :D I mean, it's still, you know, Japanese sci-fi action anime, so it won't be everybody's cup of tea.

Started season 3 of Orphan Black.

I'm really liking this series; its a bit unique and has a decent storyline unlike most programs out there these days.

Someone mentioned to me not long ago about season 3 being a little confusing and after the first episode I just watched I can see why they meant, however, I was able to keep up with what the clone were doing.

Starting season 4 (current season) of Orphan Black. Thankfully I set my DirecTV DVR to record the series before the new season began because its not included in my Amazon Prime queue - have to pay extra for it.

Watching ep 1 of season 2 of "Bloodline" on Netflix. V good and recommended. Also, "Narcos" which is about the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar, and of the police officers and politicians who dared to take on the world’s most famous drug lord. Excellent.

Finally got all caught up to the latest episode of Orphan Black which aired last Thursday. I've cleared off all backlogged shows and movies on my DVR.

Now I'm getting back to finishing The Soprano's; I'm starting season 5 right now.

Yes it is! I really enjoy the opening theme song and imagery too.

I really enjoyed it. I remember the episode where the boys get lost in the Pine Barrens. :)

Episode 2, The Night Manager, I'm hooked. Good story, outstanding filming locations in London, Switzerland, and Majorca, Spain. The Fortaleza, Majorca, the villian's liar is cool. Just realized I am watching Loki. ;)

An article said that tourism on the island was up 15%, attributing it to this show. :).

Good Show. Seasons 1 and 2 are spectacular. Season 3 was confusing and season 4 if pretty good so far.

I know this was already released in the UK, but I'm just caught up with the AMC version.

Just finished up this 6 part mini-series. Thumbs up! Honestly there's not much action, mostly intrigue, but it kept my attention. Beautiful locations! :)

Exciting? Depressing? Boring? ;)

No. The murder of a MP, Jo Cox.

A brave, very bright (a working class kid who got to Cambridge, the first person in her family ever to get to university), decent (she has worked for Oxfam for years in places such as Darfur, Kabul, Palestine), idealistic, talented, hard-working, principled and promising Labour MP was slaughtered in her West Yorkshire constituency - she represented the place where she had been born and had grown up in - today just after holding a constituency 'surgery' where constituents could come to raise issues of concern to them.

You hear so much about corrupt and greedy politicians; but there are individuals in politics and public life who are genuinely dedicated to the idea of public service and trying to make the world a better and fairer place - especially for those who have not enjoyed many advantages - and she was one of them.

The genuine warmth and respect in the tributes paid to her - especially from some on the Conservative benches (but with whom she had made common cause on certain specific issues - such as Syria, and refugees) - speaks of the affection, esteem and respect in which she was held on all sides.

Since the story broke that she had been attacked, I have been following it closely.

This was mentioned in our news but all the Oxygen is sucked up by the Orlando mass shooting. A tragedy when anyone decides murder is a solution, but I don't know for what. Is there evidence of a political agenda or a deranged individual for Ms Cox?

Okay.. to shake the melancholy from Jo Cox and Orlando, I'm going to piss off all of you and have you partake in my scarring.

My wife was watching the latest episode of Orange is the New Black last night, and someone on there was sounding so uppity, smug, and very nasal, that it reminded me of Morris the Cat from the 9 Lives Cat food commercial.

So she queued it up on Youtube, while replying back with, "Do you know who voiced Morris The Cat?"

I replied, "No..."

She said, "none other than John Erwin." As I groaned and facepalmed, you're probably asking yourself, "John Erwin"?

Yeah.. John Erwin. You'll know him better as this guy:

Don't believe me? Here's one of the commercials. Now, Close your eyes, and imagine He-Man doing these:

Now, you can thank me for ruining your childhood. :p

Yep.. Fully built and ripped He-Man, hairy cod piece Speedos and all, wielding his sword and chasing Skeletor all over Eternia, screaming, "9 Lives?? Om nom nom nom," followed by licking his chops.

I love that series, but I'm picturing a new clip for Robot Chicken here..
