Indeed. When in the office I get a lot more interruptions. Also the home office is just quieter. For some people I get the home office can be full of distractions. But not for me.
agreeable. I even do have the freedom and flexibility to still be able to run errands before work, even to hit the gym. as long you watch the time and your schedule between meetings.

Also I recall back in my last internship- my first NASA internship in NCAS in Mission 3, we worked in an open office environment and each team was placed in cubicles. I had 3-4 other colleagues with me at the same group of cubicles. Oftentimes I have to wear my AirPods when I am on my desk doing my work as it is lotta people chattering and talking around me.

AirPods don’t cut out the noise of one of my colleagues! The noise cancellation isn’t up to the task. My Bose QC35’s are a lot better for that. But I don’t really enjoy listening to music whilst I work. I’d rather just concentrate on the task in hand.

Anyway my office day is done for the week. Four more days to squeeze 8 days of work into then another week off.

That’s the downside of noise cancellation, most of the time. Have you tried different eartip sizes? I was thinking of getting the AirPods Pro 2 since the third generation might be coming out soon. In Septembers event.

Yes. Mine are the AirPod Pro first gen I think. The Bose are just much better at cancelling noise. I might get the 3 Pro’s at some point. But I need a new Mac first.

Finished. Cars on charge. Just need to have a look at my route and I’ll be good to go.
Hope the trip went well, and wasn't too 'disruptive'.

I was thinking about the lakes today, and remembering my childhood going for a swim in them. With all that is going on with my life, a little bit of reflection, and reminiscing is taking place. I guess coming to terms with your own mortality does that.

Battery power system at home has faults. It is quite new so unexpected - and it was running perfectly. Technical folks are coming out to troubleshoot it.

That is disappointing however. A few weeks of only using my own solar generated power were great.

The battery module just keeps tripping out no matter what now.

In other news...
A man took his pet crocodile to one of the protest marches in Australia on the weekend.
I looked for pictures on the internet, but it appears to have been scrubbed. Something about evidence...
In a most Australian turn, he, and crocodile, then eschewed the march and went straight into a pub.

I had an amazing Labor Day weekend, and L’Space is officially over! I’m so excited to get some much-needed rest.

Just one school day this week since Monday was a holiday.

@The Clark, I was wondering if you could help me out with something. One of my online computer science classes asks us to code C++ in Ubuntu for the microprocessor class. Have you ever dual-booted Ubuntu or booted it from a USB on a Mac? The Ubuntu website has a guide using disk utility, burn 🔥 cds 💿/dvds (which I don’t have a SuperDrive to use), but it’s a bit old. I tried asking in a separate thread where people boot Linux and Ubuntu from USBs, but they had no idea how to do it on a modern Mac.

My class shows us instructions on how to do it with VirtualBox, but just in case that doesn’t work. My teacher recommended us to install with an ISO of Jammy Jellyfish 🪼, but I wanted to double-check!

I've definitely dual booted Ubuntu and other distros with macos but that was on the older intel macs which I believe I just used bootcamp for. Now days when I need access to other OS's I just use them in parallels. Booting from a USB and running a live version would be a nightmare for C++ and code compilation I imagine. If I were you I'd just try to run it in a live VM either through VirtualBox, Paralleles. or even UMT

Got it, man! I’ll stick to booting from USB or dual-booting only if VirtualBox doesn’t cooperate and can’t get it sorted ✔️ . My computer science teacher suggested we download Oracle VirtualBox, which has an ARM Mac-compatible app that’s free. I’ll follow his advice before diving into disk utilities and dual-booting.

Since a live OS on a USB stick might not work as smoothly, I’d prefer to virtualize it on a partition on my MacBook Pro’s disk.

I’m using VMware Fusion for my Windows 11 emulation system to run work apps and Altium CAD.

You already have VMware Fusion set up for your Windows, you can use it for your Ubuntu as well. I have both Windows and Ubuntu for my M4 Mac Mini, and both work well.
Just download the appropriate image, create a new VM with it and go.

Haha, thanks for your quick reply! I had it already set up on my VirtualBox VM, but I think I’ll switch to VMWare Fusion instead. I had some trouble with it freezing during setup when I followed my teacher’s instructions. I’d rather use it on a VM that I’m more familiar with.

I guess I’ll need to export the virtualization appliance from Oracle VirtualBox and put it in VMWare Fusion.

Today marks two years as a member of this forum. I'm often traveling this time of year, and this year is no exception: I'm currently in Greece and will be returning Sunday. This is my final trip of the year before it's time to lock down and get into academic mode.

(Of course I had to return in time for the Apple event. But I realize if I ever lose interest in Apple (not likely) I'll probably still post on the Community section. :p)

For now, here's a picture from this sunny city I took yesterday:

Been a very busy day in at least three different medical facilities but I’ve come out better than I came in! Haven’t been doing so well these last few weeks. After I had a serious reaction to a shot at the beginning of the summer, and then now again. But I got prescribed a new medication which is already working wonders. And I have an exact plan for if the medication in fact doesn't end up working in the long run, but I'm hopeful that won't happen. But working so far. So this is great news especially right before I head back to school. Just have a few more gigs and then head back up a week from tomorrow.

Oh and really beautiful picture, @VisceralRealist! I always enjoy seeing all the places you’re traveling. I haven’t yet been to Greece but would love to go. My dad has been though (he’s been to nearly all the European countries). Just been so busy with so many different things I haven’t had time to travel at all, even just to Colorado or something.

5th September 2025…
My iCal tells me it is 20 years to the day since I joined MacRumours (though I had been browsing for some years without joining).

It has been an interesting online experience — many changes certainly — hand on heart quite a few not for the better…

However I have also met many lovely people — online and in person — a pity most of them are no longer posting here.

Anyway.
I wonder if I will still be around in 2045. It should seem an awful long time away, and yet not. Will an 81 yo have any business hanging about here? Or will I have been banished for my increasingly curmudgeonly behaviour? 🤣

Oh, wow.

What can I say, (write?) other than to wish you a very happy 20th MR anniversary.

You will know you have arrived when your status updates to “ Macrumors Get off my lawn”.

I’m tired of being sick :D Going on week three - probably should not have taken the boys camping last weekend up in the mountains with low 30F nights but I promised. Anyways, on a side note, while disassembling my family size summer tent, I noticed one of my fiber support poles started a split, so repaired that with some superglue & 20# test fishing line coiled around it & brushed with epoxy resin. Should hold up to get another 15 years out of her :)

Of course it’s having all sorts of side effects today (not surprising but really sucks). Did not sleep at all last night. Managed to this morning/afternoon though. Did some research and found it’s safe to take the one I’m on and an over the counter medication to relieve side effects. (The practice is closed today so I couldn’t call and ask.) Have a gig tonight and two tomorrow—I think I’ll be able to do them as long as the side effects don’t come back. If they do I guess I’ll take the “side effect reliever” again. On the main mediation for another week and they told me that by the end of the 7 days all symptoms should be COMPLETELY gone. Let’s hope so.
