That’s it. It was 33F when I got home tonight. I cleared my calendar for tomorrow morning and Monday, and booked a flight west. R&R.

I was tossing a bunch of stuff in my MacRumors folder and came across this re-cropping of @Scepticalscribe's old avatar from the Xenforo transition.

Ok, ok, I know this sounds gimmicky (and I haven’t been drinking, yet) but I’m thinking to buy a robotic vacuum. I don’t have high standards I just want something that’ll clean up a bit between cleaning service visits.

Am I going to take it in the shorts and regret it if I do?

Oh yeah, will it eat my dogs? That’s a showstopper.
I'd recommend it. You can get an older one that meets your needs for little money. I initially didn't see the point but have had one for a couple years and now find it a bit fun. They're really modular in design, so they're easy to disassemble and repair. Plus if you have an old remote and Raspberry Pi, you can control them remotely.

Thank you!

I’m not much of an electronics guy. I bought one and it was delivered a few days ago. I have it set up to do a room where the girls and I tend to spend most of our time in (not the master bedroom). Of course it doesn’t have the suction of a regular vacuum but I’m not trying to replace that. I just want it to pick up the crumbs between real cleanings. And it seems to be pretty much meeting that requirement. Thanks again for your input!

I've often thought of getting one of those given the amount of hair around here (without pets now). We're shedding too.

Let us know how your robot vaccuum handles those crumbs.

Aaannnd, the blasting death metal to shut the neighbors' dog up routine again. That's keeping my mind off of other stuff I dare not mention.

So far it looks just fine. The noticeable crumbs are gone in the morning. And the dust tray is full of debris. I’m pretty surprised at what it’s picking up for a robot.

In my opinion, it’s not a replacement for a regular vacuum, but I think it’s going to take up the slack between regular cleanings.

Awoke at 4 am. Tried to get back to sleep but no joy. I went to bed early as I’ve been shattered these last few days. Still getting over a cold and other less forum friendly symptoms.

Robotic vacuum cleaners? How long does it take to whip round with an actual vacuum?

Of course with no kids or pets we probably don’t generate much mess. We also have a strict no shoes in the house policy.

On visiting the doctor, found myself being prescribed the exact same antibiotic for my mother (who has a UTI) and myself (a heavy chest and head cold).

This is comical, and perhaps - slightly embarrassing. I'll admit that the pharmacist blinked. Just a little.

Hope you’re feeling better fast!

Well, I’m packin up my game and headed out west
Where women come equipped wit' scripts and fake breasts

Find my nest in the hills, chill like flynt
Drive my old drop-top, find a spot to pimp

Then I'ma gonna rock-it all up and down ya' block
With a bottle of scotch and watch lotsa crotch

Buy a yacht with a flag sayin' "chillin' the most"
Then rock that bitch up and down the coast
(Actually, I won’t.)

Give a toast to the sun
And drink with the stars
Get thrown in the mix
And get tossed outta bars

Thank you.

We have both started our respective rounds of antibiotics; I'm willing to put money on a more rapid recovery from Her Ladyship.

She has a charming habit of pulling some sort of sickie whenever I arrive home from one of my trips abroad, or from my travels; last year, having just arrived home on leave from one of the most appalling and challenging countries not just on the African continent but on the face of the planet, Mother managed to develop shingles overnight (I was greeted with a grin).

The worst of it is that the stash of beers (St Bernardus 12, Trappistes Rochefort 10 and 8, Lervig Three Bean and sundry other stouts I have yet to greet, that I bought today) will have to remain unvisited and unconsumed while I am on this course of antibiotics.

Enjoy your trip out west.

Enjoy!

Meanwhile, back in southern Virginia, power went out last night at 9, estimated to be back on Sunday morning.
Dang.
Ah well, could have been worse. Could have had beachfront property near Panama City, FL.

That I nearly collided with my favorite Marvel movies actor yesterday at one of my jobs.

Apparently, Bucky/Winter Soldier/White Wolf (Sebastian Stan) is a client.

He was talking with his team, so I couldn’t interrupt, although my double take nearly resulted in me walking into him and the glass doors leading into my department.:p:rolleyes:

In the bathroom I thought “Holy crap! Was that Sebastian?!?” Confirmed it was today. :)

@Scepticalscribe feel better soon!

@Gutwrench enjoy your trip to Hollywierd.

Hope everyone is okay in the areas around where hurricane Michael hit.

Mother's issues seem to be clearing up with the course of antibiotics she started yesterday, and, after a good night's rest, what has been an almost alcohol free week, and also, having commenced a course of antibiotics, I am feeling somewhat better, too.

Lovely shot but what an ominous sky.

A friend of mine is on my mind today. His father has suffered a brain haemorrhage and isn’t expected to survive. He’s in his 90’s and recently suffered a stroke, so I guess you could say it is his time.
Still sad though as he’s a nice guy.

Woke up with thoughts of my upcoming trip to the Philippines. And also just wondering when my hard work is going to get noticed by the people at work.

How’s everyone feeling today, better I hope.

Autumn and winter are perfect times to visit. I’ll finish opening things up for the weekend...and getting the fountain running. :( Then off to the market for supplies. I’m declaring the afternoon and tomorrow as open season on doing absolutely nothing.

Trying not to be nosy, but the above makes me wonder if you moved to Southern Cali?

Hurray for Hollywood!

Enjoy it and thanks for the obligatory :D and quite nice palm tree photo!

:) I’m hiding in the desert. Shhhhh.
[doublepost=1539442535][/doublepost]
Did you move to Los Angeles?

My wife and I lived in the North Bay for years with homes in Rancho Mirage and in the Twin Cities. We split the properties during the divorce. I still live in the Twin Cities and come west as many times as I can during Autumn and winter.

Not nosy at all! I love California. The original plan was to summer in the Twin Cities and winter over here. Unfortunately plans change. My wife and I went through an amicable divorce. She kept the main Minnesota house and I trek back and forth until I decide I’ve had enough winters....which is very very close.

Sorry to hear about the divorce - glad it was amicable, and glad you keep going back to California. I was a tourist, loved San Francisco and didn’t see much of Los Angeles.
