I appreciate the tips from you and @D.T. (even if said button is too small to hook on a paper clip :D).

The purse or wallet is alas: things get lost in my purse sack -little knapsack I use instead of a purse- these pants pockets do not have holes. I just have to remember to take the button out of them. Apparently, notes (be it post it’s, hand written or on my phone calendar are being promptly forgotten lately.)

I find forgotten notes days later in that knapsack and a button would be almost through the looking glass o_O

As usual, I appreciate the tips and suggestions. Perhaps when things calm down my selective memory will stop being so selective. :D

[bold]I dwell on little things, so I can remain calm about big things.[/bold]

Lol! I was so happy because I was finally able to use one of the buttons the manufacturer tacks on at the bottom. I’m still sporting it with black thread.

My coworkers are probably just being polite because I bought everyone in our group an iconic red Swingline stapler. Yes, I routinely bribe people. :)

Haha, I had this problem a couple weeks ago. It was a pale beige shirt and all I had was a spool of black thread. Either my coworkers aren’t observant or they’re very polite.
If they work in tech, maybe they think you're making a political or social statement.

My question is whether you used the X (cross) or the || (parallel) pattern for the thread on the button face. Or perhaps the button had a loop on the back. Or perhaps there never was a button, and it was velcro, and you're just stringing us along in this thread.

I abandoned the Velcro strategy because it couldn’t support the weight of my solar powered pocket slide rule/abacus.

Oh ps - I started with a loop and used both cross and parallel stitching. Thank you Parris Island.

I the cross and box. Once reattached by me, buttons can resist the pull of a black hole.

Lol!

Just opened a letter in the mail from the Washington State Department of Licensing. The yearly "it's time to renew your vehicle tabs" reminder. It's $83.75 to renew, before an optional (but automatically checked if you don't catch it) $5 donation to state parks. This is a yearly occurrence but holy crap is it expensive. Ugh.

What is wrong with donating $5 to state parks?

Any place but here or there....
Especially if you remember before you put it in the washing machine and lose it forever! If your lucky it won’t take your machine out!
It is a petite button, the pants themselves have a better chance of taking our machine out... and because of the wonderful tips and commentary here, I remembered to take the button out of my pants pocket.

Larger victory, more med bills were paid by insurance including one I received last week. Still, I've only received bills for my first week of treatment, another 2.5 weeks to go. I hope to sign up for Gap/supplemental insurance early next year so I can avoid the joy of going back and forth with insurance and out-of-network doctors I don't even remember...

I had the dehydrated strawberries on my salad. *Sigh* will definitely get organic dehydrated strawberries going forward. These seem to turn into bland cardboard facsimiles of strawberries whenever I try to add them to something else.

We are so lucky here in the not to have the worry of medical bills. The NHS is the envy of the world.

On my mind as I awoke this morning, I was trying to remember what day of the week it was. Sad when I recalled it was only Tuesday!

Dehydrated strawberries wouldn't do it for me, indeed, most fresh strawberries don't do it for me, either, as they can be quite flavourless; now, if you want dehydrated fruit with a bit of flavour, why not try dehydrated apricots? Or mangoes? Or apples? Or - if you must have the red colour - try dehydrated raspberries?

Yes, agree re the NHS and similar systems.

Yes, agree re the NHS and similar systems.

The awesomeness of the UK and Europe continues. I learned that Euro hospitals would treat what I had with ultra violet rays killing the Bacteria almost instantly and skipping the need for weeks of antibiotics (thus screwing up the digestive track for months).

I’ve had utterly delicious organic strawberries in raw and dehydrated form. I love the tart flavor and texture, but this just proves organic is better. Of course when the company touts this can of strawberries lasts for 30 years (one of those survivalist foods), not sure what I was expecting. On their own, they’re not bad, but not as flavorful as organic.

I might try dried raspberries. I do not like very sweet dried fruit though I respect it.

Nothing tops cherries for me though.

It was so nice to sleep all the through with no dog barking. Sigh, the Bolt Thrower method works.

And yes I was hoping it was at least Thursday here myself @Apple fanboy.

Oh, agree that organic is far better.

(Would worry about something that is supposed to be preserved for 30 years; reminds me of a friend who returned home after a few weeks away to find the tomatoes he had forgotten about in his fridge still in absolutely perfect condition; tossing them out, he remembered muttering, "this is not natural".)

What about organic dried apricots? They have a lovely tart (yet slightly sweet) flavour.

Raspberries are a lot less sweet than strawberries - I like those tart strawberries one can find growing; the cultivated ones are often too large, too sweet yet also too flavourless; but raspberries are usually lovely and tart.

Cherries, yes, especially sour ones.

Funnily enough I’m not a big fan of strawberries.

If they are organic, locally grown and subtly sweet and tart, in other words, flavoursome, yes, I love them.

But the big - attractive looking, but utterly flavourless - ones, that one often sees in supermarkets do nothing for me.

Upstairs, the accordion is playing and the stand in carer (who is a semi-professional musician, and very good) is singing - old style music hall hits, which Mother loves, - you can see her beaming - and she is busily moving her hands in time to the music.

On strawberries: yep, the big fresh ones in supermarket plastic... no. Even the 30-yr camp-food ones would seem to do better as cardboard decorations, in cereal at least.

On buttons:

I abandoned the Velcro strategy because it couldn’t support the weight of my solar powered pocket slide rule/abacus.

Keep it simple, I say. Velcro works if you jettison the baggage for doing sums.

Five Plus Five Is Um Let's See.jpg

In truth I dislike Velcro except on the closure of my cheap yard-work shoes. I can sometimes even manage to get them on fast enough to deter the FedEx dude from dropping packages six inches from the roadside and calling their status "delivered".

On my mind today: how passive aggressive the parcel courier drivers can seem sometimes, in their placement of packages, when it's not customers who track them with computers and pay them poorly and press them to deliver parcels at a rate that even makes them unsafe drivers now and then. I wish they were better paid too, and less hassled. However, I am a customer of their shippers, not the problem of courier employees, and I don't like it when they become my problem.

Yesterday I was rated as qualified for the job in Alaska. Now I need to brush up on what they're looking for so I'll have a few nights of reading manuals.

As of late September the job was cancelled so I assumed they were working the good ole' boy system kicking the whole list back because they name they were looking for wasn't on it then this morning I got this:

Sir,

Would you be available for a telephonic interview this week for the Plans and Operations Specialist position that you applied for?

I don't know what happened but HH6 gave her approval for the job and move if it happens, now I can't really focus on work.

In that sort of scenario, I suspect that "the name that that they might have been looking for" either wasn't available or pulled out.

In any case, the very best of luck with it.

Yes that's generally the way it works. A supervisor can generally kick a list back three times without much justification but at the cost of proving that the position is required, since this position is considered emergency essential that cost can be fairly high. Supervisors can by name request but that justification is pretty involved and HR almost always kicks it back if the person already works for the supervisor. The simplest way for a supervisor to make sure a name is on the list is to sit down with the employee and make sure his/her resume hit's all the right places on the position description.

There are more reasons a position could be closed and re-opened on the same list and that's what I'm hoping for I don't want to waste my time interviewing for a position I'm not going to get, nor do I want to be forced or be the second choice. I was forced on the folks here and it took six months for the ice to melt and a modicum trust to be established.

Thank you, the interview is the 18th at 1730 my time I should know one way or another 10 days or so after that.

Agreed; being second choice in such a situation (been there) is no joy.

Best of luck with it.

Personally, I'd far prefer to see him with a cup of Earl Grey tea in his hand.

And, while Mickey Mouse does little to appeal, (tacky, and Picard was classy), Beats, - come on - Beats have to be the most over-priced, over-rated, over-hyped triumph of marketing ever to enter the audio market.

Jean-Luc Picard deserves better.
