Like FB and Twitter I’ve never joined.

Good.

And good for you.

That is not a healthy place.

Agreed.

While I am on Twitter - where I tweet very infrequently - I have never joined FB and never will.
On occasion I wandered into Reddit when looking for gaming advice, but I never liked the format so never joined. Now it’s looking like you have to be a member to see content? Ifcso, that makes it easy for me to stay away. 😳

Indeed.

Years ago, in class, I remember my professor of politics discussing the concept of how a state wields a monopoly of legitimate force in a country, and having been deeply struck by it.
Sounds intriguing. Can you expand a bit in the theory of it (avoiding PRSI material of course)?

Perhaps in private lest we stray where we shouldn't.

However, I will say that when a state abrogates, or cedes - for one reason or another (even for morally dubious reasons such as facilitating situations of plausible deniability) - its right to be the sole body that has the right to wield legitimate force in a country - this may be a recipe for instability, at the very least.

Actually, for my part, I have been wondering why it took so long for the generals (and, for that matter, for the government) to deal with the Wagner group and its leader.
Simple, the regular Generals are inept and at the beginning of this awful war Wagner was covering for their idiocy.

It’s probably too late for that. That’s the risk in using extra governmental help.
Oh, yes.

It is always an ominous sign - back to ceding the right to have a monopoly on the right to wield, and to use, legitimate force - when a state permits (or is compelled to permit) armed forces that are not under its (direct) control - or answerable to that state - to exist on its territory.

More importantly, I found out that some of my favorite pulp/literary magazines I subscribe to are on Kindle Unlimited which makes me save lots of money.

A couple of familiar titles there -- Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine! Wow, been years since I've seen either of those and didn't even realize they were still ticking along....
I remember the TV series of Ellery Queen, and, indeed, the TV series of Alfred Hitchcock Presents from my childhood (yes, we had those - and thoroughly enjoyed them - This Side Of The Pond).

Both magazines have been around for many years, even as far back as my adolescence, if I recall correctly. I don't think we ever had a TV series in the US based on Ellery Queen but definitely the "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" television series was very, very popular! Another classic TV show which ran for many years in the US was "Perry Mason," which was beloved by many, even those who didn't read mysteries.
