Another thing I don't like about summer is that I never know what to wear. Here I sit in a pair of blue shorts white ankle socks and a pink tee shirt. Do I look good? I very much doubt!

Went for a lovely meal in a country pub (The Brown Cow) with my girlfriend. A starter, two roast dinners, a glass of wine and a pint of larger came to £80!!!

I went out for a two course Sunday lunch today too with my wife and 2 daughters. Things have certainly shot up in price in recent years as ours came to £103. We don’t do it too often so I don’t mind so much.

What's on my mind right now? People who post stuff on various web-based forums which really belongs somewhere else such as on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or the like.... Doting grandmas posting image after image of their precious darling grandchild(ren) in online (not family-focused) professional/hobbyist photography-oriented discussion forums....... Sure, an occasional shot every now and then, but when just about all they post is images of the grandchild(ren) time after time, year after year?? How interesting or valuable is that to anyone else but family members?

That's what FB is for, and/or private family "groups" on Instagram where Aunties and Uncles and other relatives can see the photos of the kids, where there is actually some connection, some genuine interest, and to me that makes much more sense than the images of these kids being again and again and again foisted on strangers.

I haven't seen the stuff you're talking about, but here are the two problems with that:
  1. Forums aren't a replacement for social media
  2. Posting those kinds of pictures on a forum makes NO SENSE!
Like... who is gonna care about a picture of some family members they don't even know? Although, to a point, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, whatever, has the same "problem"—other people outside the family can see the pictures, but if each member of the family follows each other on whatever platform, when someone adds said photo(s), they'll see it right away.

You know, I never thought of painkillers that way until you said that. I had back surgery done years ago (that I still haven’t completely healed from) and took heavy painkillers. I always wondered why I could still feel the back pain. Still do to this day, in fact.
Yeah, to be fair different pain killers will affect different people.. differently. I ended up switching to something called Dilaudid to manage the pain until my root canal, and let me tell you.. it was just lovely.

The importance of soundtracks and sound editing in movies.

I recently rewatched The Young Pope (which is a masterpiece). The music selection is just amazing, especially when you have paradoxical scenes such as the Pope praying out loud to techno music. Sound editing is also impressive, the addition of the correct noise to deliver feelings of locations and people is impressive. The sequel (The New Pope) is equally good in those two terms.

An example (which has no spoilers) of music selection linked to a Fellini-like scene which slowly builds up through the use of music that would be quite unexpected in such setting:

Exactly! The forums to which I referred are specifically dedicated to photography, as opposed to social media such as FB, Instagram, Twitter, etc. Sure, on FB and Instagram, people are going to post selfies, shots of family members, etc., and that is understandable. However, IMHO on forums which discuss photographic techniques, photographic gear, and photos are shared, that kind of image is out of place. Sure, in most photography forums there is a subforum for portraiture, but snapshots from Grandma don't belong in there, either.

That is quite wonderful; thank you for sharing it with us.

Unless the posts are protected... anyone can see anyone's posts. Yet, so many people think otherwise.

No, no, I hear you. My posts are not protected. Yet, with the sheer lack of responses/views, one can only believe that algorithm is skewed somewhat. Probably mainly focusing on adverts and celebrities.

Especially if they derive from a “send nude selfies” request.

😜

LOL! WHOA!!! Not THAT kind of snapshots!!! No tiny, wee naked kiddies in the bathtub sorts of images, thank goodness. (Don't most legitimate sites refuse to allow those these days?) Just on both photography forums, (to me) boring shots of the grandchildren, who range in various ages from little ones to prepubescent or early adolescent ones, doing various things, either together or alone. Absolutely nothing....um...questionable.

And, nope, as far as I know Grandpa doesn't work for the BBC (nor presumably is he retired from the BBC). In both situations of which I am thinking, Grandma seems to be the one who goes around with a camera most of the time. Actually, some of the grandchildren in one family are getting older, some maybe even into their very early teens and I'm surprised that they haven't already started to object, already said, "Grandma, please, no photos!" or, "Grandma, please don't post these photos on the internet!"

In the other family the one grandchild (so far) is definitely doted upon by everyone and it seems to me that practically every moment from her birth moving on into the current and future has been recorded on one of Grandma's cameras over the years. That kid isn't really old enough yet to realize that maybe Grandma is overdoing it and definitely overstepping boundaries with the many, many images posted so frequently online....

Neither Grandma seems to realize that even (especially) young children should be protected by paying attention to appropriate boundaries and that unless presenting their images on a site which has a lot of family member participation such as FB or Instagram, that it just really is not a good idea to be posting images -- especially mostly snapshots -- of grandchildren on forums devoted to photography, sites which are primarily populated by serious amateur and professional photographers who are more interested in viewing and discussing carefully-composed and photographed images of varying subjects.

The incredible quality (and variety) of the fruit currently available where I am just now:

Apricots (several varieties), peaches, nectarines, melons (including honeymelon), cherries (both sweet and sour), grapes, mulberries, - I devoured a bowl of the latter (picked from my driver's garden) today - absolutely amazing and utterly delicious and irresistable.

Just found out that HBO canceled Perry Mason after just two seasons. Sad decision as the series was very good. It seems that viewership declined.

I feel that Perry Mason’s S2 made the same mistake of Ted Lasso S3. That is, they made an important, yet side character way too central while also not properly developing it. In Ted Lasso’s case, the awful Keeley plot line was unwatchable and almost made my wife and me stop watching it. In the case of Perry Mason, they tried to make Mason’s assistant, Della Street, way too central. Virtually all of the scenes with Della were focused on two things: a) she’s lesbian (same as Ted Lasso’s Keeley) b) she’s better than Perry Mason in court (!!!). The good news is that Della is a much better character than Lasso’s S3 Keeley as at least her (Della’s) love story with another woman ties well with the general plot of the season and is interlaced with another minor character.

However, most of it is robbed time on the screen which I think people found it boring after the initial scenes. Again, making Della so strong in court was a huge mistake in a Perry Mason series as she rendered Mason virtually useless. I have the feeling - and I am not going to be politically correct here - that after the complaints that S1 was not your grandad’s Perry Mason they tried to balance it out by having a stronger than usual female character in her own right, with the issue that they did it very, very badly in a cliche’d and simplistic way.

Ultimately, I did love the series and I am sad that it won’t see a S3.
