Went to see an absolutely AWESOME funk band (comprised of musicians I know), they played two amazing sets, I really enjoyed it!

Also, I'm playing outside on a restaurant patio for 4 hours tomorrow, we'll see how that goes... we might have to move inside depending on how hot it is. I played at this same place two weeks ago (with the same group), and it was scorching hot by the end of the afternoon! I think it'll be fun though, they're really good players—it's piano, guitar, bass, and drums

How I've been playing Fly Me to the Moon wrong for the past 7 years. Now I know how to play it right lol
Can you elaborate? I like the tune, so I'm wondering what's "right" or "wrong" about the versions I may have heard.

One thing I recall is it was originally written in 3/4 time, but it was rearranged to 4/4 time, and has become a more-or-less standard in that form. I don't think I've even heard the 3/4 version.

I agree with @Macky-Mac (quoted below) that it is a terrible pity that there isn't more funk around these days.

However, that does sound awesome.

The very best of luck with it; I'm sure that you'll have an amazing night.
Funk.....too bad there isn't more of it around these days

It was fine until about 1:00, and then it got REALLY hot! We played 11-3. At least they brought out umbrellas for us. The food at the restaurant was also super good, I’d never eaten there before. It was a nice gig! Ended up just being a trio because the bass player was sick, so the guitar player and I traded bass duties (he played bass on some tunes, and I did left hand bass on the other ones)

I know Hampton Hawes recorded it in 3, and it’s nice like that! Although it’s also great in 4, too.

The part I always played wrong was at the end of the first half, “In other words, darling kiss me”—“darling kiss me” goes A-G-F-E, not the way I always played it, C-B-A-G (in terms of the melody note). Hope this makes sense!

I hate the cold too. Especially that biting cold that you're immersed in early in the morning when you walk outside in the winter
It think it is easier to get warm when it gets cold than it is to get cool when it is hot, so I'll take cold weather over hot weather any day. Mind you, I don't like it when it is so cold your eyelashes freeze....

Vice versa for me.

It is easier to cool down when hot, a cool shower, por cold water over my head, take cold drinks, stay in the shade, wear cooling cotton or linen - than warm up when it is cold.

If my feet get cold, I cannot sleep, or think, or relax, and nothing, but nothing, seems to be able to get them warm.

I loathe the cold.

Well, I am now back home, tired, (thoughts of bed are surprisingly welcome) writing reports, and contemplating the mad jungle that the garden has become in my absence abroad.

The gardener has been phoned, I am sipping a beer, (a beer opened an hour or two earlier than usual, but I am telling myself that my body clock will take a couple of days to adjust to the time and temperature difference) and I am also busy writing a detailed (debriefing) report.

Welcome back. I’m sure an early beer and an early night will be most welcome.

Thank you.

Crossing two continents (and then travelling home in my own country) in under 24 hours is something I still think I can do without consequence. Yes, I can still do it, but I feel it a bit more than I used to. As my mother would have said, with a grin, "anno domini", meaning, well, "years".....

An early beer and an early night will be exceptionally welcome.

Packing is on my mind as I haven’t started yet and heading to the Med in a few days. Temperatures are in the 40’s in some of the parts I am heading too which will be interesting. Looking forward to putting my phone on airplane mode and leaving my Apple Watch at home for 2 weeks. It’ll be nice to enjoy my mechanical watches for a couple of weeks solid

I'm back from a place where the temperatures (in the five-six weeks I was away) during the day climbed from mid thrties to mid 40s (and are still rising); stay hydrated, stay well hydrated.

Early morning (six a.m.) would see temperatures already reaching 28C.

And stay indoors - if possible - during the searing and punishing heat of the afternoon.

But do remember to enjoy yourself.

Any excuse to drink beer is good enough for me. The hottest I’ve ever experienced is 50C in the Middle East, not an easy temperature to function in for a Brit used to about 300 days of rain a year lol.

Yes, I can empathise.

Actually, I've just returned from a country where they have sunshine for around 300 days a year.

Their fresh (seasonal) fruit was insanely good - cherries (both sweet and sour), apricots (I had never realised that there are so many varieties of apricot), peaches, nectarines, melons, grapes, mulberries......and their (seasonal aromatic incredibly delicious) tomatoes had me whimpering in helpless delight.

The spices were incredible also. As were the nuts (almonds, pistachios, peanuts.....) and dried fruit. Pomegranates and persimmon will come into season later on, as will apples and plums.

Suncream and speedos. You're done!

Enjoy. I've had a few this year. Maybe 5 in total. Still trying to get back to my 2022 weight.
I am enjoying the beer - with an almost obscene pleasure.

When I was abroad, I went a number of weeks without any beer, and then, was able to source some (thanks to my very helpful driver).

A beer before bed was nice and relaxing, but this was not somewhere where imbibing in public - especially as I was there in a professional and pretty senior capacity - would have been a terribly good idea.
