I haven’t met any sharks closeup, but maybe some people of that manner.
But I swim symbolically away from them as they never even existed anywhere close to me, ever, as any dolphin would. Guess I picked up a few things from the brilliant dolphins.
I was swimming closely with dolphins at a very early age, and they are an incredibly joyful and even spiritual experience. From my understanding they are clearly a very intelligent species, their presence most definitely make lasting impact.
You might have a different opinion of dolphins if you were a tuna fish!

I found out that bottlenose dolphins (tursiops truncatus) have a wicked sense of humor. I was helping a doctoral student at Boston Uni who was researching how they make their sounds. I was holding an ultrasound probe against its head while he looked at the instruments. At one point, in between runs, the dolphin dipped its head in the water and made a little puddle in it's blowhole and sprayed me in the face. It was obviously pleased. :)

In a coffee shop.
Penis fencing in snails.
Words failed me, when I first read this.

Initially, I had assumed that this was some weird form of urban slang with which I am not familiar.

Then, thankfully before asking Urban Dictionary for an explanation of what "penis fencing in snails" means, I read the thread, which offered reassurance that this was (and is) something that is found in nature.

At that stage, curiosity prevailed.
Of course I had to Google this. God knows what type of ads or messages I will receive as a result
As did I, having read the thread.
It's fascinating isn't it?
Actually, it is.
I am reluctant to ask...what brought this topic to your mind?

A snort of suppressed laughter is the only appropriate response to this brilliant post.
I'm reading works of Charles Darwin.

Perfect.

My mother had his works, - which she admired and which greatly fascinated her - and introduced them to me, when I was a child.
So did I, at work as well. Nature is amazing and well, weird.
Yes, I confess that I succumbed to temptation, also.
There must be someone in the office who you find irritating and a pain in the ass. Google from his/her computer.
No.

Not a good idea, even in jest.

And yet another reason to loathe the very idea of open plan offices.

The repurposing of biological structures is amazing. My favorite is the electric eel, which converted some of its muscles into batteries. It doesn't swim as well as it could but has a heck of a defense (and offense).
Also cool: electric rays and electric catfish

Used in ancient Greece for numbing effects, and ancient Egypt to treat arthritis. Antique TENS therapy.

Earth in its time continuum limitations is pretty stuck in just that.
Yet, some believe they will find aliens or life on other planets. It will never happen though in humans timeline. I am very certain there's plenty of more intelligent life in all universes, but not in the timeline of Earth. Because it's not very intelligent at all 😂

If we find life in the outer planet's moons, that in itself will be one of the most fundamental discovery in science. Material regularly shifts between the Earth and Mars so any life there could have potentially come from here. And vice versa.
But life out there could only have started locally. I'm very confident it will be found.

I am certain it, more intelligent life forms, already have existed long before Earth even existed. But in another timeline then what beings in and of Earth lives in.
So it’s not really about finding anything, it’s about reaching a different level of consciousness that exist beyond the dimensions that Earth and most beings on earth live in.

I'm an engineer so I tend to look at reality in more immediately observable terms. That which I don't know can be speculated on but needs to be proven.

I'm sure there is intelligent life out there simply because we are here and the probabilities, given the vast number of potential candidates, mean that it probably happened over and over. The difficult part is that space is really big and the likelihood of another intelligent species being nearby is pretty low.
