That, at least, is something.

And you have electric blankets to keep the bed nice and cosy.

Amen to that.

A heartfelt and passionate and profound amen to that.

Best of luck with it.
Yes the bed will be fine. Reminds me of when we moved in 4 years ago. Then we had no heating. But did have an electric shower, so hot water. But we got rid of that old thing when we renovated the bathroom.

In a coffee shop.
Done that all day. But customer service is closed tomorrow and Sunday. I’m not holding out much hope.
Ouch.

Well, if they do not appear tomorrow, - which is profoundly unprofessional - the only thing I can suggest is to give them a serious ear-full on Monday.

This is really disgraceful, especially at this time of year, - and, in the middle of a cold snap - as well.

Don’t worry we will do. But it takes over an hour before they even pick up the phone. That hold music is no fun.

True.

But, a useful option should one have a second bathroom, or simply an ensuite shower room.
Indeed. If we had a second bathroom I’d have one in there. But just the one bathroom here.

Anyway some good news! The gas tanks are full. A very nice gentleman just turned up. Just gone 9. That’s made my weekend. Heck that’s probably the highlight of the month for me!

You should celebrate with a long, hot shower

And when do you start on the Spanish football team?

Ah, brilliant news.

That means that you will have both hot water and a warm house for the week-end, terrific.

Delighted to hear it.

Mr. Henry Kissinger has died. As many here might know, I’ve studied him for many years.

Love him, hate him, he has been a very interesting person to study throughout the years, and I am sure that I will keep reading about him.

What are some books about HK you recommend?

His trilogy of the White House Years is a masterpiece, however it’s about 5,000 pages long and very detailed. It provides lots of information on how things are really behind the scenes (which includes lots of pettiness).

For a generic overview of how things are in the world of diplomatic relations and how they were shaped at Westphalia which still resonate today, I recommend World Order. Surprisingly, despite being written in 2013-2014 and published in 2015, it contains several passages on how social media would cause world leaders (and their administrations) to become too reactive and too loud at the same time, which is very dangerous in foreign policy according to the author. This could probably work as a first book.

In the tome titled Diplomacy the author looks at several important moments in history and explains the diplomatic elements in them, starting from the Congress of Vienna.

His book On China is a great overview of that country, but some elements are now slightly dated. I think that it’s in this book that Kissinger recounts greeting Mao on his first historic visit by saying “I’m so glad to visit this mysterious country”, to which Mao quickly replied “China is not mysterious to the Chinese.” (or something like that) which according to the author was an incredibly humbling lesson on the relativity of diplomatic relations.

Changed the battery before lunch. The worst part was the cold spanner’s in my hand. Anyway all sorted now.

Doesn’t feel like it really got light today. Though it does feel like it’s getting darker already.
Yes, that cold....

Took the bus into the city, only to discover that yet again, the French bakery had forgotten to put aside my order.

Now, they had written it into their book last Saturday when I collected last Saturday's bread - usually, I phone them in advance on a Friday to ask them to keep stuff for me, - but today, I thought as I had confirmed it last Saturday that everything would be fine.

Mortified, they offered a free loaf (not what I had ordered, but, never mind, it is French bread, and I am happy) by way of apology, and, in front of my eyes, two of the staff made certain that next week's order has been written into the order book.

Got some double cream in M&S (with an expiry date that is quite close, so I shall trot in during the week to get some more), and collected my organic milk.

So, I am at home now, (rather than brave waiting for the bus in freezing temperatures treated myself to a taxi home, the lovely Pakistani driver was attired in an immaculate shalwar kameez), and have since salted the driveway and outside footpath, plus prepared a mug of coffee.

Thus now, mug of coffee to hand, I am relaxing and browsing the online world.

They seem to forget your order more often than they remember.
You’d think how often you are there they would do a little better.
Had my weekly bread allowance earlier. Three slices of wholemeal from the freezer.

Did my cross trainer session in the garage before dinner.

In fairness, they never forget - and have never forgotten - when I phone them on a Friday, this has happened only when I verbally request - on a Saturday when collecting my bread - to put the same order aside for me the following week.

The reason I request that they put stuff aside is that they are often sold out of the good stuff early, and late arrivals, such as your humble scribe, can find next to nothing remaining on the shelves when we put in a tardy appearance.

Anyway, as two of them (the staff) were on the case (and suitably mortified), and emphatically wrote my order in their book, I think the bread will be awaiting me next week.

And I have enough to see me through the week-end, into early next week thanks to the bread they did insist (with apologies) that I take with me.

Enjoy. I miss fresh bread. But my body doesn’t.

If the weather doesn’t deteriorate I’m seeing my Dad on Monday. I hope we can meet up, but I think it might be more for a coffee and lunch rather than a walk.
Meeting near Milton Keynes. Sort of half way (ish).

Ah.

Lunch, (and, or coffee) rather than dinner and beer and a glass of wine?

Either way, safe travels and I hope you have a good time.
