Mr. Henry Kissinger has died. As many here might know, I’ve studied him for many years.

Love him, hate him, he has been a very interesting person to study throughout the years, and I am sure that I will keep reading about him.
A controversial figure. I definitely have mixed feelings about him and his passing, although I saw him in person a couple of times.

Starting to work on an extremely challenging piece that I'm playing on an all-originals gig next week. Written by the tenor saxophone player. Whole piece has super specific figures and rhythmically complex breaks throughout it, not to mention the melody. We have one rehearsal, then the show, so hopefully I get the scores for the remaining songs soon. It'll be tons of fun though, I've never done an all-original set before, believe it or not.

The last truly conceptual thinker in US. The fact that he still had to do a lot of legwork at his age is indicative of a very sad state of affairs in the US.

I must say that you crossed my mind (almost immediately) when I first read this news.

Good luck.

Do you ever write (compose) any of your own music?

Would you like to do this at some stage?

Books, beer, bills.

Books: I still have some books to read prior to returning them to the library, (and received a timely reminder that a few are due in a couple of days).

Beer: Purchased some beer today, standard Belgian and German classics.

Actually, I bought beer, oranges, raspberries, and, crisps (chips, to Our Transatlantic Cousins).

And bills: Paid several today, and am feeling horribly virtuous.

Two more deaths in the news here in the UK today, Shane MacGowen (not really unexpected) but I used to love the Pogues back in the late 80s and also really unexpectedly as well today - Alistair Darling, one of the real 'one nation' politicians we used to have a few short years ago. What a shame.

Only one rehearsal?

Ack!

Very sorry to learn of the death of Alastair Darling.

Shall listen to Fairytale of New York this evening, as a nod to the memory (and song-writing genius) of Shane MacGowan.

Hope you manage to identify and work out any possible problems during the rehearsal - and I hope that the rehearsal is a good, long, thoughtful one - and that the show itself goes very well.

Well, I remedied yesterday's error (when I had forgotten to tick a microscopic box prior to despatching a signed pdf file), and the signed, (and ticked) fresh pdf file has now been despatched to its destination.

Filthy day, cold, and dark, dismal and dreary, and wet and sleety and miserable.

Yes, December has truly arrived.

Dry here. But the frost didn’t melt all day.
Mrs AFB spent the day on the phone trying to sort out the delivery of gas.

Yesterday we got new tanks. They were supposed to fill them the same day. That didn’t happen (shocker!).
So many promises later and still no gas. They are supposed to come tomorrow now, but I think there is more chance of me getting picked for the Spanish Women’s football team as a centre forward (I’m English, male, old and a rubbish footballer).

We have a couple of % left so have heating and hot water for now. But that will be gone soon. Supposed to be -5 Saturday night.

Another dry, sunny start to December here in SoCal. I hope we see some rain this month.

In either case, today is the day I help my parents set up Christmas decorations. I may be out of the house, but I haven't lost my affinity for this time of year. :)

(And before you judge, our decorations aren't tacky blow-up Santas or anything like that. :p Mostly lights and a lot of old decorations handed down from my grandparents).

Sounds as if you are living just on the edge. Wish you the best of luck.

Grim.

Not surprising, unfortunately.

I devoutly hope that they actually turn up to do the needful tomorrow and that you will have gas; the only thing is to try to keep chasing them to carry out - to fulfil - their commitments.

Done that all day. But customer service is closed tomorrow and Sunday. I’m not holding out much hope.
