In a coffee shop.
The French bakery had my bread, all nicely packaged and ready for me.

An early trip to the farmers' market where vegetables (onions, leeks, garlic, carrots, celeriac, cavolo nero, spinach, - they squeaked, they are so fresh - cherry tomatoes, aubergines, chilli peppers), fruit (oranges, lemons, grapefruit, raspberries, cooking apples and a couple of quinces), herbs (thyme, rosemary, parsley, and coriander) were all purchased.

And eggs: Free range and organic.

Plus, organic, free range chicken thighs (skin and bone attached).

Double cream and some cheese were also purchased.

Slow start to the day. A short run before breakfast. Then in between showers cut up some dead tree so at least we have something in the brown bin for collecting on Tuesday.

Now watching football focus. Will prepare lunch in a bit. Scrambled eggs on toast. My weekly bread allowance.

An early start for me, which was just as well, as the farmers' market was pretty empty, which meant that I managed to get through it (many of the stalls didn't bother showing up, the weather was so filthy) pretty quickly.

Ah, yes.

Not for me until later in the afternoon.

I'm Old School on such matters.

Sounds tasty.
My weekly bread allowance.
I've just been snacking on fresh French bread (the baguette I bought earlier today), with cheese.

And fresh orange juice (squeezed by my own hand) plus freshly prepared coffee.

A tasty lunch.

And the French bakery carefully wrote in next Saturday's order, under my beady bespectacled eye, and went out of their way to apologise (again) - unprompted, I hadn't mentioned it - for last week's debacle and for the few previous week's disasters.

I finally made it home after 3 and a half weeks in Reno with the Parents. I'm really looking forward to a quiet Christmas.

I also was able to take my car into the shop after someone backed into me at an intersection and the repair work is over $5500. Thankfully Insurance is paying that. I got a rental, a Kia K5, and it's a nice car. It's Car Play actually works, something I can't say for mine. My only regret on buying mine was finding out the Car Play would be unusable 2 years after I bought the car.
:(

Mine will be going on shortly. Wind out there sounds vile.
Very vile.

Last night was horrid, as well.

Anyway, the shopping - which includes copious quantities of sparkling mineral water - has been done.

My electric blanket has now been switched on.

The Grape and the Grain have been both eschewed this evening, and, firstly, as I want an early enough night (for, I was up early this morning to head to the farmers' market), and secondly, there is no call for celebration on the football field, I may also forego a nocturnal (warm and soothing) coffee.

Perhaps, a cup of tea is called for...

Enjoy your tea. A bit late for me these days. I generally don't drink after 8 anymore.

Well, while I am tired, and coffee, as a rule, doesn't really affect me, but bed will beckon, hence, a cup of tea - which won't have any effect whatsoever - seems as though it might be a good idea.

Unfortunately, I don't have any hot chocolate - I forgot to get some the last time I was in the local shop.

Hot chocolate sounds good. We have plenty, but I've cleaned my teeth already.

Yes, no hot chocolate and no shortbread.

Once her dementia became very pronounced, Mother loved biscuits - and, Decent Brother was also more than partial to them (with a cup of tea) - and, visitors tended to call, thus, the house was always well stocked with good quality biscuits when (and while) Mother was alive.

Mother is no longer with us, Decent Brother isn't around much, Covid put paid (for the most part) to casual visitors, and I'm not much of a fan of biscuits, hence, at the moment, there are none in the house.

However, that deficiency shall be remedied, as, in winter time, yes, a biscuit or two (especially with a nice mug of tea) are very welcome.

The only biscuits we have are in the garage and get fed to the birds!

From mid November, until mid February (even late February, on a ghastly year), I will allow myself to think of (and reach for) biscuits, as desired, and as required.

Usually, this does not happen more than once per week.

Normally, I don't even think of biscuits.

However, tonight (Grape and Grain and coffee all banished), I would have liked a biscuit, for biscuits and tea work well together (as is confirmed by almost every teachers' staff room, the fights over biscuits were legendary, friends who became teachers told me); coffee is in much less need of such support, and coffee is usually my preference.

No Grape, Grain or Coffee? Sounds like my house every night!

Ours is off for the next couple of seasons...

Feeding the birds here is frowned upon, unless it is via the Bottlebrushes and other shrubs in your garden. Sadly, we are also feeding the neighbourhood flying fox via our apricot tree.

An apricot tree?

How wonderful.

Actually, I love apricots, fresh, dried, tinned/canned.

And I have seen apricot orchards in Armenia, and the apricots - both dried and fresh - in Uzbekistan were simply superlative.

Does your apricot tree actually give you fruit? What kind of fruit - tart, sweet, juicy?

Candidly, I was astonished to see (and I shouldn't have been - for apples, pears and, even, potatoes, - to mention but a few examples - all come with many different varieties) how many different varieties of (fresh) apricot that there were available last summer, when I spent some time in central Asia.
