Harkening back to the discussion of cold feet in winter......

The other day when looking at the Amazon site (US) I discovered that there are such things as an electric foot warmer into which one can slide both feet and be blessed by warmth both on the top of the feet and the soles. AHHHHHH..... For years I'd been using a standard heating pad for this purpose and well, it only warmed one area at a time.

The new electric footwarmer arrived today and I have been enjoying it ever since. Ah, blissss!!!!! Finally both the tops of my feet and the soles of my feet are warmed simultaneously and what a difference this makes. Wish I'd known about these things a long time ago!

An electric foot warmer?

Why was I never informed about this amazing (and vitally necessary) invention?

Where can I get one?

How can I lay my mitts (and freezing feet) on this inspired invention?

How did I never know this? (And yes, my mother would have loved it, too, as would Decent Brother - cold feet are an affliction all too familiar to us).

Why is so much utter tosh advertised loudly at such tedious length, while something so critically important has remained unknown (to me, at least) and outside my purview?

Clearly, this merits further investigation.

SS: My reaction was much the same as yours, actually, when I read about this in an article in The Washington Post. The article was about ways to keep warm in the winter and when I got to the part which briefly alluded to electric foot warmers, I sat up and took notice. WHAT? There is a such a thing???!!!! Before even finishing the article in the paper, I immediately jumped to Amazon to see what was available. As soon as I saw the photo and description of one which heats both the tops of one's feet and the bottoms/soles simultaneously, I paused and looked more closely. Ah, yes, this one also features ease of use and flexibility by being an "envelope"-style into which a user can simply slide his or her feet in or out and move them around within the "envelope" as needed. BINGO!!!! I knew I'd found the Holy Grail.

It's bliss, sheer bliss!!! I've been using this thing all evening..... My feet are warm and happy, I'm warm and happy!

Go to Amazon and type in "Electric Foot Warmer" and that should bring up results. There are different styles but the one I've got is made by Wimiril and is soft and cozy, with the heating elements on top and bottom and a nice easy-to-use control to set the time period to have it on before automatic shut-off and level of heat. I've had it on "high" (setting #3) just because I can. This is lovely, just really lovely.......

An apricot tree?

How wonderful.

Actually, I love apricots, fresh, dried, tinned/canned.

And I have seen apricot orchards in Armenia, and the apricots - both dried and fresh - in Uzbekistan were simply superlative.

Does your apricot tree actually give you fruit? What kind of fruit - tart, sweet, juicy?

Candidly, I was astonished to see (and I shouldn't have been - for apples, pears and, even, potatoes, - to mention but a few examples - all come with many different varieties) how many different varieties of (fresh) apricot that there were available last summer, when I spent some time in central Asia.

We don't know what our apricots taste like, as they are inside the flying fox.
I assume the flying fox tastes of apricot, but they are protected, and we aren't allowed to eat them...

This is an interesting coincidence. A fellow musician literally just gave me his old Bose tower PA system because he'd replaced it with two QSC K12.2s (anyone getting it yet???)

I never told him that my K12.2 broke (and it's in the shop right now), so he has no idea about that. He made it very clear to me that the PA system isn't fully working, but he didn't specify exactly what's wrong with it. So I took it home, spent a half hour figuring out how to set it up, and there appears to be a short somewhere in the base that powers the speaker modules—the power comes on, but then goes off intermittently. It seems like the modules themselves and the accompanying subwoofer work fine, but the base that powers them doesn't work.

So, at this point, I have this enormous (partially broken) Bose tower PA (that honestly I have no space for lol), plus my K12.2 that's getting repaired. I have two options: I could take the Bose in ALSO to get fixed, or I can see if I can get a new powered base (hopes not up on that... I've already started to scour the internet and have found NOTHING). Either way, if I can get the Bose to work, that'd be awesome. Honestly though, with my K12.2 that's being fixed as I write this, it won't be the end of the world if I can't get the Bose to work. Regardless, it was very generous of him to give me his old gear (this isn't the first time he's done it), so I'll try to make the most out of it if possible.

I also have a working speaker that I'm borrowing from someone else while mine's getting fixed.

Where has this (genius invention) been all my life?

Okay: This clearly merits further investigation.

My wife got in a car accident two weeks ago. She's quite alright and the car is fixable, but my dealer won't be able to get to it for another week yet (not until 12/19).

That, upcoming holiday busyness and work changes (interviewed for and accepted a internal position that is much better paying/salaried and will start on 1/8) form something of a potent cocktail here in my head.

Not Amazon, but I have been browsing; it seems Boots (a venerable bricks'n'mortar business) stocks this anticipated delight, this utter and glorious wonder, - and I'll also investigate a few other outlets that sell similar products - thus, I expect that I shall pay them a visit in the near future.

The important thing is that your wife is fine; cars can be repaired, but the health and well being of those close to you is of far greater importance.
That, upcoming holiday busyness and work changes (interviewed for and accepted a internal position that is much better paying/salaried and will start on 1/8) form something of a potent cocktail here in my head.
Congrats on the position; I hope it works out well for you.

A break in the weather this week has me cooking up a road trip to Seattle for early Christmas family visits. On the holiday itself I prefer to be home and doing my own thing, so it’s nice to get some visits and quality time out of the way.

I’ve really come to prefer driving for regional trips so I can bring what I’d like, not stress on schedule and have a car when I get where I’m going.

Also, Seattle airport is routinely a crowded mess, especially at peak travel times.

Do they have wifi, Bluetooth, and an iPhone app?

I'm only half joking. Lately I've had to make sure that the features on some new technological purchase don't require some stupid app being installed before I can use the thing.

An "On/Off "button, or switch, and several (increasingly high) thermostat settings, will happily suffice for me.

Personally, I neither want nor need (the unnecessary complications and confusions of) apps for this kind of a technological purchase.

I think our fridge can be connected to WiFi. I really don’t know why. I didn’t bother setting it up.

I absolutely refuse to bother with some sort of "Home" setup which depends upon WiFi and one or more devices to control things. I am perfectly capable of getting up out of a chair and manually turning on a light or adjusting the thermostat to my liking without grabbing my iPhone!
Absolutely! If I don't get up every hour my AW moans at me to do so anyway!

And likewise.

This strikes me as though it is yet another of those supposed solutions in search of a problem.

A problem that doesn't exist.
