Ah, yes, just noticed that you seem to have a new avatar.
Well, the other one was getting old, at lest I think so. I have yet to update it elsewhere (I used the same old one on Keyboard Forums and Discord)... I don't know if I will. Maybe?
Hey, hair grows, and sometimes, surprisingly quickly, especially in summer.
Apparently so in the dead of winter, too. All of my classmates seem to be growing their hair out, so I don't know... I'll definitely get it cut within the next month or so.
Good luck with the video work opportunity; that sounds very promising.
Thanks!

My parents always tell me of how in the 1970s (and I guess through the 80s) they just took their garbage bags out to the curb to be picked up. No trash bin or anything, just the bag. Though I guess it depends where you grew up.
Yes, in some areas of this country the custom of putting trash bags out on the curb was pretty standard for years. When I moved into this condominium apartment complex in the early 1990's that was the system used by the community at that time. Since this is a condo apartment development most residents do not have room for storing trash bins/other kinds of receptacles, so they were not required here. Eventually the system changed over to dumpsters, and that has been for the most part pretty satisfactory.

The problem with putting out just (plastic) trash bags, especially if set out the night before the anticipated collection, is that nocturnal critters can discover and invade them, ripping them open and causing a mess. This is one of the reasons my community shifted to using dumpsters instead since there was no way to expect, much less require, residents to purchase and use sturdier trash bins and such when most do not have a way of storing those at all.

Once in a while we run into issues with the dumpsters, but for the most part this has been a reasonably effective solution to the problem of how to dispose of the detritus residents collect over any given period of time.

Catching up here: I cut my own hair so I do it when I notice that it's looking a bit shaggy or whatever. Started doing this many years ago when I went to a salon and was not happy with the results. After I got home, I thought, "I need to fix this...." and did so, successfully repairing the damage, and after that I simply stopped wasting time and money going to a salon; I'd rather spend ny time and money in other ways.

Ah, well, well, so someone's got a new avatar! :)

Uh...that said, I have to admit that to me, many of the avatars people produce with Memojis and throw into MR and other forums tend to look more alike than different and distinctive.....

I always thought that the concept and idea of an avatar was to present some sort of visual representation (aside from a head-and-shoulders or some sort of actual photographic face shot) of one's own interests, personality or other unique characteristics, and/or something meaningful in some way to them or perhaps visibly demonstrating a connection to the site in which they are participating??

Times change, ideas change (which is not surprising). So, yes, I may be (more than likely am) way out in left field and way out of touch now, but I still find all these look-alike Memojis used as avatars on MR and other sites to be rather uninteresting when there are many kinds of opportunities for each member of a forum or site to share one's personality and one's interests right from the get-go......

My hair, which I got cut not even a month ago, and now it's already starting to get long again. I had them cut it very short in hopes that it'd take longer to grow back, but nope! I'm going to have to do something about that pretty soon, I guess...
Reminds me of the adage:

Q: what is the difference between a bad haircut, and a good haircut?

A: two weeks

Creative/imagination-fueling things I can do:
  • Write music
  • Write a pretty compelling paper, resume, etc.
  • Come up with plans for events
  • ...and so on
Creative/imagination-fueling things I can NOT do:
  • Draw, paint, sculpt - anything in the visual arts
  • Some fine arts, like acting or dancing. I'm a TERRIBLE actor and dancer.
  • Write song lyrics
  • Participate in ice-breaker games - I absolutely HATE those. They make me feel embarrassed, and honestly ashamed.
  • Last but certainly not least, I cannot come up with good profile pictures/avatars.
    • Nor can I easily respond to those writing prompts asking about myself.
    • Nor do I really like talking about myself.
Anyway, my typical long-winded way of conveying a simple point. I support the idea of uniqueness, but I can't figure out how to employ that properly. Nor do I really have the courage to.

There are likely to be all kinds of interesting ways to convey your love of music in an avatar..... Just a thought.

My own avatar lost some of its uniqueness when we changed to Xenforo as our forum software and avatars could no longer be used in the .gif format. My Rainbow Apple logo actually sparkles under the right conditions. As an avatar on here now it's a static Rainbow Apple. This wasn't something I designed or created, though -- it was a gift from a former member fairly early on when I was still fairly new to MR and had only recently become eligible for an avatar (back then one had to have made 500 posts). I have used this avatar ever since and only at MR.

On photography forums to which I belong I will often choose a favorite photo of a flower or a bird or something else that I've shot. I never will and never have used a photo of myself or one of those Memoji things.

An excellent post, very well expressed, and one that makes complete sense to me.

"I want to love you like a love song baby" - I woke up this morning with that atrocity of a song (can you even call it that???) in my head. I heard it somewhere last summer and I will NEVER forget it, it was so bad. I think it was playing at a store or something, so I had to listen to the whole thing. Why it appeared today in my head randomly, I have no idea. I want it out.

LOL....I don't know that particular song, but I certainly know about awful songs that haunt people forever

No idea what song you are referring too either.
But ear worms as I call them can happen for a variety of reasons. I’ll often be humming or singing a song with no idea what it is. Then someone points it out and it can be very embarrassing!

when I made the mistake of looking at a video on YT to see what the fuss about something called "Baby Shark" was all about
Oh don't you even start talking about that...

Good lord!

That gives me PTSD from the backpacking trip I took freshmen year of high school, where people just COULD NOT STOP SINGING THAT. I had to endure that for three days straight.

Ugh -- "ear worms!" I think the worst one for me was a few years ago when I made the mistake of looking at a video on YT to see what the fuss about something called "Baby Shark" was all about..... I swear it took DAYS before I finally got that darned song out of my head!!

Profound sympathies on the enduring and unwanted horror of ear-worms (especially if the song in question is absolutely, but unforgettably, atrocious).

This week has been the second consecutive week that the organic milk company hasn't supplied my local shop/store with organic milk.

Very irksome.

That's cool! I have never lived near any large body of water, so can't say I've experienced that.
The thing about bodies of water is that enjoying them (as a swimmer) depends very much on the weather and climate, not to mention latitude and the time of the year.

Unless your latitude lies well to the south (and here, I refer to conditions generally found in the northern hemisphere), swimming in winter months is no great fun.

I'm ready for January to be done, luckily it is almost. Although what's ridiculous is that we're already almost halfway through the term. These 10-week trimesters go by EXTREMELY fast.

As am I.

Yes, that was a shocker for me, too, when I was teaching; somehow, the term flew by, - almost at accelerating speed - especially the second and thrid terms of the academic year.
These 10-week trimesters go by EXTREMELY fast.
At warp speed, agreed.

I live on a (very small) body of water and I love it, as it is always changing, frequently moving, sometimes still and quiet, but always reminding me of a life force not just within myself but other creatures, too..... With the change of seasons I and other residents here get to enjoy how this affects the lake, and so do those who come to live in it or on it or just to visit for a while...

The reflections in the water at various times of the year change with the way the light hits as we move through an annual cycle. The water definitely responds to nature's demands, sometimes nearly spilling over the banks during periods of severe rain or simply becomes really choppy when the wind is high..... In winter, an occasional episode of freezing and then a layer of snow over the top of that changes the looks of the water altogether. It's endlessly fascinating and I am lucky enough to view this each and every day.

When I was a child I never saw the ocean -- that came later in adulthood -- but my love of the water was fostered very early-on by many visits to my grandparents' summer cottage, which was on a lake. When I first saw this community in which I now live, even though our so-called "lake" is actually a pond and definitely swimming and boating are not permitted, I didn't pay much attention to the apartment unit which I was there to see -- I immediately headed right to the sliding glass door that led to the deck, walked out on the deck, had an even better view of the water, smiled when I saw some ducks at one end of it, and knew that I was home....
