Been quite ill the last three weeks with a chest and a kidney infection. A few hospital visits and had more needles and cannulas put in me than a voodoo doll. Planning to go back to work tomorrow all being well, but can’t say I’m looking forward to it. Doesn’t help the weather is still bitterly cold. Oh well, life goes on.

I thought you’d been quiet. Glad you are on the mend. I couldn’t imagine being ill for that long.
Enjoy work.

I've had a mild pneumonia for the past 10 days, breathing is going back to normal. I went to see my GP as soon as I had my first symptoms (cough, sore throat, mild fever, mild shortness of breath) she realized it was something more than a seasonal cold and I must thank her solicitude as she immediately put me on a strong treatment regimen.

The very best of luck with it, and glad to hear that you are on the mend.

Be kind to yourself on your return to work - you will possibly still be feeling somewhat under the weather, and knocked out.

Thank you. My boss and colleagues have been very understanding thankfully, it’s the first time I’ve been off sick since 2007 so very unusual for me. Thanks for your wishes.

When you have been healthy for a long time, a prolonged bout of ill-health can come as an unwelcome surprise, a shock, even.

In my twenty years of teaching, I would imagine that I rarely had to take a day off a year - if even that most years - for reasons of ill-health.

However, in a different position, one with a toxic atmosphere (although the actual work was interesting), I came down with shingles and was out on sick leave for six weeks.

I remember that I was still easily fatigued when I returned to work, whereas I had always prided myself on my resilience.

Anyway, take care of yourself, be kind to yourself, and bear in mind that full recovery may take longer than expected, and that you may find yourself succumbing to fatigue with surprising frequency until you recover your strength.

We have something called, freely translated, The Athletics Gala - that appears once a year where all the best athletes, leaders and around sports in our country get prices.
Different kinds of prices, and some the people in Sweden vote to get the winner, other prices are decided by juries decisions etc.
It’s the time of the year when all various athletes comes together and it’s a great gala to watch and hear special rumours around. Sometimes emotionally strong stories are being told etc etc.

This year, The Moment was when Sven-Göran Eriksson was honoured. Not a lot of talk.
He was just getting up on the stage and receiving applauds and all love.
Very emotional minutes. He cried, a lot of people cried, me included.
He is dying in cancer and says himself, that at best he has a year left.
What an outstanding football coach he has been all over the world.

I recall when I was a kid watching Blåvitt here in the city when he was their coach.
We kids ran around where we shouldn’t be, and he always had a kind word to us brats. Very inspiring for me and my football friends at the time.
Then 'Svennis' as some of you know, have coached teams all over the world. He've been one of the best coaches and leaders in football for a long time. What an outstanding and amazing vision he've had in his profession!

Terrific post.

Perhaps cats introduced Schrödinger to quantum theory.

I was pondering this very point. You know how a cat is always on the wrong side of a door. How did it get there, when you never put it there in the first place? I think cats have been doing quantum tunnelling since cats first existed.

As for string theory. Ever watched a cat with a piece of string? They are masters of string theory and practice.

I think that cats persuaded cavemen to invent doors just so that they could be on the wrong side of it...

Cats are projections of pan-dimensional hyper-intelligent beings. They're similar to the pan-dimensional projections we perceive as white mice, but with different senses of humor.

Glad it’s recycling wheelie bin this week not rubbish.
The rubbish bin is never even a third full for our fortnightly collection and as such would definitely be blown away!

We are having another storm in the UK. I feel for those who haven’t recovered from the last one.

Interesting.

We have trash pickup once a week and recycling 2X per month.

My parents and I had a lake house at Smith Mountain Lake in Virgina and they had what I thought was the best system. As part of your county taxes, the county maintain what they called Convenience Centers which was a fenced are with about 20 dumpsters.

When you had a bag of trash, just take it to the dumpsters. I did order Weathertech liners for their vehicles in case something spilled, but the ability to get rid of trash at anytime was great.

I’ve lived in properties like that. Here we have 3 wheelie bins. On for rubbish, one for all recycling. They are emptied alternate weeks. The rubbish one doesn’t get much in it. Could be emptied once a month. The recycling one gets close to full.
The third bin is for garden waste. Also collected fortnightly. I’d rather they didn’t bother this time of year and came weekly in the summer!
We just take them from the back garden (well on the side really) to the front.

Living in the countryside group bins wouldn’t really work.

Hm.

Given wet and windy weather, I think that I shall defer putting the bins out until tomorrow morning.

Worrying about wheelie bins making their merry way down the road in these conditions is something I can well do without.

Both of my eyes are extremely painful. Most likely, astigmatism appeared in both of my eyes or the degree of myopia in my right eye increased. But somehow, I can see the distance extremely clearly. If God allows, I will go to the ophthalmologist this week. Wish me luck. 🤲

Here in Wales it’s recycling every week and general waste is collected every 4 weeks. We recycle way more than we throw away so it seems to work quite well.

We used to have weekly collections on general waste until about 10 years ago but people didn’t recycle so they’ve had no choice but to change it.

If your eyes are painful, my suggestion is that you go to the ophthalmologist this week, and have this diagnosed and treated by qualified professionals.

Many multifamily dwellings -- apartments -- and also some townhouse communities in the US have dumpsters rather than curbside pickup, and it really is more convenient for residents, as long as the dumpsters are emptied on schedule, which can be problematic during and immediately following bad weather.

At the time I purchased my condo apartment in this community we had curbside pickup three days a week, but then due to various issues it was decided by the condominium board of directors and the management company to go with dumpsters. At first I was not happy about this, but it didn't take long to see the value of being able to discard my trash any time I need or want to do so rather than waiting for the next scheduled day to put it out on the curb. Each dumpster is surrounded by high fencing so that they're shielded from view when driving or walking through the community.

The three dumpsters are strategically positioned in order to best serve the buildings closest to them, and the trash collection company empties each of them several times per week. We also have a separate recycling area where there are receptacles for our recyclable materials, although we are not required to recycle by the state, the county or the HOA board of directors. Fortunately some people seem to be more proactive and assiduous about being mindful of recycling -- especially when it comes to breaking down cardboard boxes and disposing of them in the recycling area rather than the dumpsters. I don't think some people recycle at all, but there seem to be a number of us who do, or at least to some extent, so it all balances out in the end.
