When I was growing up, the butcher counter at the supermarket would sharpen individual knives (not a set) for free, if they weren’t busy and you asked politely. I wonder if they still do?
In this cutthroat world, I have my doubts.

In this town, they'd probably be afraid that someone would use it on people in the store.

In a coffee shop.
The hardware store in town has this little machine that automatically sharpens knives 7 inches or bigger. Worth every penny as I can’t sharpen knife at all.
Sounds as though it is a brilliant idea; would love to see something similar in place, here.
Am sick this week with a cold turned into chest cold. I am so glad this is a light week and I don’t have a lot of calls. I’m staying home and getting rest.
Best of luck; stay safe, stay hydrated, stay warm and take care.

An excellent idea.

I knew a Polish chap who worked in one of the hardware stores, (I bought some knives from him), who was mad about knives, and who used to sharpen mine for me, for a fee.

Unfortunately, he no longer works there.

We watched Dune Part One. Boring.

But... Part Two is coming, and is said to be lots better.
However... my beloved wants to read the book first, so she can better understand the storyline.

So I go to look for my copy, which the bookshelf has absorbed and will not give it back to me. I know its in there somewhere, but I just can't find it.

Bl**dy acquisitive bookshelf. I'll give it back, honest.

Anyway, it looks like it will be a long time before we watch Dune Part Two.

Well, to be candid. I'm not so sure that these conditions would apply in (most of, or, much of) Europe.

Having knives sharpened is not so unusual, here, and I doubt that they would be used on the people in the store.

Today, 29th February, is on my mind.

Some people do a sort of psychological stock take on New Year's Eve (or Day); however, I find that I like to do a private, psychological, or mental, stock-take whenever the extra day of the Leap Year, namely, 29th February, falls, or takes place.

Back in college I wanted more beer money so I got a job: selling knives. The knives we sold were Cutco and they are actually pretty nice knives. The handles look like crap, but the blades are great.
Knives... my parents recently got a nice knife set, and they love them apparently. I don't cook enough to need really nice knives though.

It's always interesting to meet the few people who look so much older but are only three years old by having a birthday on the 29th of February.

Couldn’t agree more on that film. It was dire. We won’t be watching the second.

It's worth it if you've got inexpensive knives. If you own a set of highend, professional quality knives, those machines will ruin them. Those machines take off too much material and the edge won't last as long either.

I tried learning how a professional sharpener hand sharpens a knife. Big nope for me. I got moderately cheap chef's knife that I'll continue to use when it's wittled down to a paring knife size.

Sometimes, they adopt you......rather than the other way around.
I can SO, so agree with this!

Years ago, not long after my husband had died, a friend kept urging me to think about adopting a pet, and after a while the idea really grew on me. Yes, actually, a cat would be a lovely companion, another living creature in the house and while I would be responsible for its well-being, it would be giving me unconditional love in return and the feelings would be mutual.....

I already knew that I would want a Siamese cat, as a few years prior to this, my husband and I had taken over the care and loving of the one who belonged to close friends of ours when the husband became very ill and they could no longer keep the cat. It was my first experience with the breed and I was delighted and fascinated. Chula knew right away that the one whose affection he needed to capture was my husband's, as he already had mine. It took him less than a day and a half to have my husband wrapped up with a twitch or two of his tail and ever afterward an adoring fan..... Siamese have a reputation for being smart and wily, and indeed they are!

So one day I went to the home of someone who bred Siamese cats (not really as a business, but more as a hobby) with the intention of looking at and maybe deciding upon one kitten to become a housemate and companion...... Well, actually, two of the several littermates independently decided to choose me -- I was to be theirs -- and how could I resist? One of them was quite bold and wasted no time in getting to the important business of sussing me out, while the other was quieter and apparently very shy but once he approached me and checked me out, too, he couldn't stay away from me, either. At some point that afternoon I had one in my lap and the other twining himself between my legs, both purring up a storm......

OK, so I wasn't going to be enriching my life with one feline companion, but two. That was very clear and quite agreed upon among the three of us.

Long story short: that day I made the arrangements to come back and pick up both kittens for their journey to their new home, and I was already captivated by each of them. Went home, but on the way purchased the necessary items recommended by the breeder, and set things up in the house so that it would be comfortable for them, then the next day went back to their birth home and after further communing with each of them, brought them both home.

That was years ago, and I had many happy years with my two boys, each of whom has now long since crossed over the "Rainbow Bridge." Harry and Tali did bring much joy and wonder into my life and I still miss them...

I always had dogs growing up, never a cat.

Met my to be wife and she had 2 cats. No matter how hard we tried to integrate the cats with my dog, it wasn't happening. So my parents ended up with the dog (we kind of shared custody anyway) and I ended up with 2 cats.

I just expected them to be aloof like cats are supposed to be. Within a week one of them was laying beside me while I watched TV and would get annoyed if I wasn't in my seat when she thought I should be. :)

She became my buddy and would follow me around the house waiting for me to sit so she could get up and lay beside me.

Fast forward 30 years and we have had over a dozen come though our house and currently have 4. Not planned but it just happens.

Is it weird to be able to listen to the same song on repeat for multiple days straight? Cause I realized I've been listening to not only the same song, but the same section of the song for two days in a row, tomorrow will be day three. I mentioned that to someone the other day, and they said they can't even begin to do that, even if it's like their favorite song. They can listen to it a few times in a row, but not two days.

For the past two days, every time I'm at the computer (unless I'm working), the same song has been on repeat. When Spotify's open, it's playing ONLY that track, sometimes for hours straight. And I'm not tired of it, and I don't anticipate being sick of it anytime soon. But it's also really good, so...

EDIT: A clarification: This is the ONLY song I've been listening to, NOTHING ELSE. Also, in case anyone's wondering, I don't have a "favorite song," because I only add good music to my library, so I have thousands of favorite songs.

^That seems a bit extreme. When I discover a new song that I really like, I often play it multiple times in a row, and then I may do the same thing the next day (currently doing that with a song I recently discovered; just played it for the third time this evening). But the only song all day? Can't say I've ever done that. 😅
No, and this is A SINGLE SECTION, not even the whole track. I haven't counted how many times I've heard it in the last hour - maybe 50? idk.

You're not going to get royalty payments from playing your own song, over and over. Other people have to listen to it. 😆

That was a joke.

As long as it isn't Jingle Bells, I'm sure you'll be okay. I could listen to a whole album full of new songs for a week, but I'd have to listen to all of the songs. After playing piano pieces for choir, recital, etc., I really would want a variety, but that's me. Everyone is different and everyone should do what feels right, as long as it isn't hurting anyone else. Enjoy!

I do listen to a lot of playlists over and over, but I have about 3-4 I go between.
Then I also listen to the radio when driving. Sometimes it reminds me of a forgotten song or band.
