Ah, yes.

Thank you.

That is what I had thought.

My dad used to fix light bulbs, and electrical stuff that went on the proverbial blink, and other related stuff, and I simply (at the time) put it down to part of the language of love.

And my mother noticed (and appreciated, and recognised) this, and reciprocated, in ways that he, in turn, recognised and appreciated.

Again, it doesn't have to be confined to chocolates and flowers. Or words.
Actions speak louder than words. But I do tell Mrs AFB I love her everyday. Even though we have been together more than a quarter of a century as it’s important and true.

Well said.

And, couldn't agree more.
When we were courting I used to stop at her place and quickly came to realise she hated to clean the bathroom. So I’d do it for her as a surprise when she was at work before I left (I had Mondays off in those days and worked weekends).
So that became my job to this day.
She in the other hand likes to cook, so she does that.
Mind you I do miss the days when we could eat out or have a take away.

Yes, my dad (bless him) used to do that with my mother, regularly.

What a wonderful, idea.

My dad used to do the ironing - for the entire family - as we all hated ironing. Therein lies a tale, but, he was doing much of the ironing for years - even decades - before he retired.

And, in latter years, he also took charge of the washing, drying (and ironing), plus gardening and bins; I did the cooking (when I was home).

And we had someone come in to do the cleaning once a week.

So that became my job to this day.

Fair enough.

I put the bin out earlier. If I’m in the office Mrs AFB usually has put it round the front, so I just pull it down the drive after I have parked. I tell her I’ll do it all but she does it anyway. Because she knows when it’s dark and wet when I get home, it’s one less thing for me to do.
Scientific fact. It rain 100% more on bin day.

Aaaah.

Bless.

Yes, I have found this to be all too completely true, especially since the bins fell to be my responsibility.

(First, my father looked after them, then my mother & I did, then, the carer did, and, now, once again, this falls to me, life's full circle, and all of that....)

If you lived in Southern California near Los Angeles, you could probably go to quite a few restaurants, as there are several that consider food allergies, etc. for their menu, because of all the actors and musicians.

The list of things she can’t eat is much longer than the list of things she can eat. We haven’t had a meal out together in a decade or more, and probably never will again.

Sometimes she’ll eat things she knows she shouldn’t but the consequences are often pretty quick. So she would never eat in a restaurant because, well it’s safer to be at home.

Of course. I understand too well the power of food allergies.

Thankfully, I only have one big allergy: peanut oil.

I have none. Although bread doesn’t do me any favours so I just eat two slices a week. Unfortunately I love bread!
Mrs AFB can’t eat most meat or fish and then only if it’s incredibly fresh (certain fish frozen at sea with nothing added can be ok).
Most vegetables cause her issues.
Dairy is out. Eggs don’t agree with her. Processed food. Spices are out. Tomatoes, garlic, mushrooms, onions or things containing them are bad for her.
A lot of other foods can work in moderation or if not combined with other foods. Anything high in histamine will set her off.
So basically we eat a lot of white rice, chicken breast and broccoli.

I wonder if she could handle a Japanese or Korean diet but best not to attempt anything at this point.

Speaking of AI, been looking at Sora OpenAI - wow this is really getting scary. Nothing like the weird yet funny clips of Biden and Trump eating pasta.

The knives - well, the ones I have - are excellent. Actually, they are superb.

Back in college I wanted more beer money so I got a job: selling knives. The knives we sold were Cutco and they are actually pretty nice knives. The handles look like crap, but the blades are great.

Best part is they have a lifetime warranty. If they get dull, send them back and they will either sharpen or replace. Last batch we sent about half got replaced because they had chips or small rust spots up by the handle.

Again, not the best looking, but they work well.

Now everyone will be talking about the cancellation of the Apple Car for about the next month, goodness. So uninteresting to me.
Well, it is an Apple forum, after all, one dedicated to discussion of Apple, its products, and the tech world generally, so this should come as small surprise.

However, (and, for this, I do give grateful thanks), it is possible to give a very wide berth to areas of the forum that hold little of interest.

Well speaking of knives, life in the city.

I have always thought that maybe Apple was reaching a bit too far when it was talking about developing/building/eventually marketing an Apple Car, and I'm not really surprised that finally now they've realized and publicly acknowledged that maybe -- well, OK, yes -- this really is not where they should be focusing their attention and efforts any further. There's plenty of other areas for them to continue enhancing and exploring!

I thought it was interesting that Apple plans to reassign the bulk of the staff to AI. While they acknowledged, there would be some layoffs. Somehow, I thought if you were going to design a car, you would have a lot of mechanical engineering. I guess that wasn’t the case at Apple.

Not just mechanical engineering, but - when designing a car - one would have hoped to see input from actual human beings (including human beings who may not fit the default of a six foot tall male) as such input may be relevant when wishing to market and sell the finished product to potential purchasers.

Didn't they stop designing the mechanical bits about five years ago and were concentrating on making an autonomous driving system?

The hardware store in town has this little machine that automatically sharpens knives 7 inches or bigger. Worth every penny as I can’t sharpen knife at all.

Am sick this week with a cold turned into chest cold. I am so glad this is a light week and I don’t have a lot of calls. I’m staying home and getting rest.

When I was growing up, the butcher counter at the supermarket would sharpen individual knives (not a set) for free, if they weren’t busy and you asked politely. I wonder if they still do?
