Ouch.

Wince.

What can one say......

Idiocy, ill-manners (and a profound and lamentable lack of knowledge) are no excuse for such cretinous behaviour.
Agreed. Thankfully, I've never come across anyone like that. There WAS a restaurant here though that a few years ago posted xenophobic and racist language on their front door. I've never gone back there.

Living in the Washington DC area, it is not at all unusual for me to hear several languages being spoken in local restaurants, shops, malls, etc. I rather enjoy it, as I find it interesting how other languages sound, even if I have no idea of what the people are saying to each other. I feel that the diversity of residents of this and other areas around the US is something to be celebrated and appreciated....

I notice similar things here in my hometown, as well as in LA and Chicago (and many of the other major cities). It's good to have diversity.

How little I care for television. I just say that cause it's just VERY uninteresting to me. My folks are watching some show that I honestly couldn't care less about.

Oh goodness, what?!

You know, what language people speak DOESN'T MATTER!
I had some woman complaining that my Spanish didn't sound Mexican. I used my best Spanish-language soap opera voice and told her "No one can speak Japanese!"

I'm always surprised at how gutsy people are when they think you don't understand, or in her case, when they just don't care.

Couldn’t agree more. I used to work with a guy who often had a cold. He would find it funny to make a point to come and share my space.
On the rare occasion I get a cold I will also have another virus flare up. So upwards of 50+ mouth ulcers and a similar number elsewhere.

So yes everyone hates getting a cold, but for some of us it can be a lot worse.

I was glad when he left.

These days I probably get less colds as most of the office work from home when sick, or actually take a sick day (some more than others).
How did someone not speak up about this??? It seems from your description that he was intentionally getting people sick. idc about "office politics" or whatever, and that's largely irrelevant in this discussion. It's clear he was in the wrong here.
HOWEVER, this week has been chock full of medical appointments, and you know how much I hate those... Actually, for the rest of the month are doctor's appointments. Really sucks.
And I'll be due for surgery in a few months. God, I can't ever have a break, can I...

Seriously, why does it have to be this way? I don't get it. Not saying my life is miserable, because thankfully it's not, but this part just SUCKS! I've been sitting here for 20 minutes with my head down on my desk, idk what else to say. I'm just going to bed, I'm sure I'll have more to say in the morning.

Some tourists, visiting Wales, went into a coffee shop.
A couple was seated there, speaking Welsh. In Wales.
Tourist piped up and said "We don't speak foreign here."

Wow that’s rude of them, I bet that created an uncomfortable atmosphere for the tourists. I’ve lived in Wales 23 years and have learned you never disrespect the language, although it’s not spoken as predominantly where I live in South Wales. My wife and daughters understand more of it than me lol.

We're got a new chairman in our housing cooperative. Lord 😱
——>
Latest parody is that she and the cooperative will arrange a summerparty and put up a party-tent, and serve food, where people can play games etc.
Nah, she won't even get a reply from me this time 🤣
1 have answered, and I am almost ready to eat my shoes (or something) if she gets more the 4-5 answers.
This didn't work out well, as suspected.
She got 2 answers, on her online google request, at least. Doubt that she got many answers in her physical mailbox, if any, as she requested. She did also put up flyers on the ports, which disappeared too. The only flyer that remained was on the port where she lives.
The party-tent however arrived and some guys in our condominium made the effort to put it together yesterday.
Today the tent was gone, and the whole party vanished in the summer heat or if it was the rain.
The 'chairman' sat with her PC, and tried to look cool this morning in our garden.
I'm however very certain that she will not be reelected at the next board meeting.
We have managed to do a lot in our condominium and keeping the costs low over the years, so she's not popular now, that I'm certain of.
She might even disappear faster from our house than my own plans to move to a bigger place?
We'll see? 🙂

No, I really don’t understand this. If I could be reborn, I’d just want a life free of health issues, and where I wouldn’t have a somewhat painful, awful childhood. I’d just love to know what it’s like to live as a “healthy” person.

I don't know what issues you have....

But I learned a lot from having an extremely brilliant Mother that died in cancer way too early.
I focused to learn a lot about health, body and meditation deeply and extensively very early, and I have practically never been sick through life.
Except from some over-exhaustion that forced me to slow down at times as I've always been very athletic.
I eat 99% vegan, but endulge myself with Cheddar cheese, as I never found the taste for vegan cheese.

I am not saying that this and/or that is good or bad for others, it's entirely up to ourselves, as I see it - to get to know ourselves, what our own needs and preferences in life are!

Sometimes we get bad or good ideas from others, but the responsibility of our own lives are up to what is true for ourselves.

Wise words, I am trying myself to get to know myself - and this is a journey that never ends.

I agree! Even at my age I still occasionally have new insights into myself and what makes me tick.....or how something from the past (either positive or negative) may still have left its mark in one way or another on me and my life today.

I don't even understand what that's supposed to mean. Weird...
I learned pure Spanish from Spain, Castellano. They're all a bit different, though.

After The Treaty of Zaragoza, the Spanish settled parts of Asia and the Americas. The local Spanish versions grew apart as new things and situations happened.

When I worked for an agricultural software business with U.S. clients and a client from Chile, we were trying to come up with words across all Spanish-speaking countries and found that it really wasn't possible.

I’ve only visited Wales. I cannot speak or understand the language but I am impressed with and appreciate the spelling. 😁

A LOT of things, mostly congenital. My life is a bit easier compared to when I was a kid, but all of this stuff has remained relevant today.

I was lucky to have tremendous support at home as aa child, but it was honestly still just really hard. No one at school listened to or understood me--in fact, all people sought to do was harm me physically and emotionally. I was also behind in nearly every way possible. I was waaaaay behind in reading and writing (I remember being in fourth and fifth grade and the OT person teaching me how to write). I had speech problems, too, and I still stutter. And very bad respiratory problems... the list goes on. Visual problems, neurodevelopmental problems... I’m very thankful to be alive, honestly.

Years and years of physical/occupational/speech therapy certainly helped, so that by the time I got to high school, I was no longer in special ed. So things did get a little better, but nothing went away completely.

Now more than ever, I’ve really been thinking a lot about myself, and how I can still live a fulfilling life in spite of these challenges.

Right, but your examples are perfect I think. I don't know what my personal equivalent would be though...

Huh, interesting. I know Spanish spoken in Spain is indeed different from the dialect spoken in Latin America. But I didn't know people have issues with someone speaking the "wrong" dialect...

Oh, the ignorant usually find some reason to be a pain.

When I was dealing with the company from Chile, they understood my Spanish quite well, and their version of Castellano was quite close to that of Spain.

Mexican Spanish uses a lot of slang and the slang differs from Mexican state to Mexican state, as I've been told. I spent a week in Monterrey, NL and they spoke Castellano mostly, probably because of all the Spanish tourists and their own very Spanish background. Most families here are from Michoacan, Sinaloa, or Jalisco.

Papua New Guinea is a tri-lingual nation, English, Tok Pigin and Motu, officially. All Parliamentary decisions have to be published in all three languages.
Most young people know all three. When I was at the university there, it was common to hear people, particularly the female students, intermingle all three languages into the one sentence.

Well this is disappointing. Researchers found that privacy-focused web browser extensions don't meet the expectations or needs of their users.

Article

They were studying popular Chrome extensions but I bet the same applies to other web browsers.
Not surprising, honestly. Same can be said for most open-source software, unfortunately.

AdBlockPlus showed it lost the plot when the devs got in bed with the ad industry, and asked users permission to display "approved" ads.

When Ghostery was bought by a marketing analytics company, that served as the cue to abandon its ship.

Nothing related to Chrome seems privacy-oriented.

I use Malwarebytes Browser Guard extension, in conjunction with whichever browser's tracking protection and generally things are good. I forget with Hulu that the Malwarebytes Browser Guard also blocks adverts, so I can turn that part off and still inhibit tracking.

None of it is perfect, but I've noticed in the last week or so, many websites are displaying adverts again.
