Sorry to read this, well of course awful is a value judgment to an extent. As a new junky, I appreciate having news apps and also watch on my large screen TV, though I do streaming like most folks, Netflix, Disney Plus and Crunchyroll. I have to be careful with the volume living in an apartment building.
I never watch the news anymore. Just read the stories that interest me which is quite a small % these days

Spent an hour in the office gym. They had morning TV on (which I never watch).
The only stories were
Trump shooting
England losing in Germany
Something to do with strictly comes dancing.
Some Royal or other at Wimbledon

Rinse, repeat.

I had my music on. But it reminded me why I don’t watch much TV.

I believe the Royal at Wimbledon was Kate (Catherine) who broke Royal Protocol by acknowledging the cheers she got when entering.

In other news, it is snowing in Queensland (a tropical state), part of a trade union has been put into administration, and a new, driverless train got stuck in a tunnel the other night. Apparently it had been reading "Hitchhikers Guide", as it kept on telling the passengers "Don't Panic".

Like I said some news story I have zero interest in. I’d scrap the monarchy in a heartbeat.

On my mind is trying to sort out some issues with my car in the morning after an accident on the way home. Damage seems very minor and I’m wondering if I should go through the insurance or not. No other vehicles involved just took a trip to a dyke in the Norfolk Broads.

My stutter was particularly bad tonight. I was talking to someone after a chamber music concert (which was fantastic by the way!) but I noticed I was struggling to speak, I'm sure they noticed it too. Generally this isn't an issue because it's usually so mild. So that won't get off my mind. Certainly hard when you struggle to get words out. I think I'm gonna go to bed early tonight, I have nothing better to do.

The problem is not that my family is obsessed with television--I don't mind that. I mean, I find it a little weird, but it's fine. The problem is that they seem to enjoy these just objectively AWFUL shows! The acting is maximally cringe, and they're all about these extremely boring themes. Hell, there was one where the 40-year-old woman literally throws a (maximally cringy) tantrum to her parents over... who knows what (I didn't actually watch more than that). It's just impossible for me to watch. It's literally on the level of that Periodic Table documentary with the fake British and French accents, I am not joking.

And yeah, I hear/read enough of the news anyway. No reason whatsoever for me to watch it too.

Earphones are your friend if you are in the living room, but keep your parents in views in case they say something to you. Not sure how your place is, or go to the porch.
Nah, it's good! I just choose not to watch stuff, and everyone is fine with that. I'm just pointing out that television is bad, that's all!

LOL! I like to have it around in case of some major national event or other news which directly affects me, and then I'll be watching it..... Also, there's kind of a sentimental value attached to it as well: it was a TV which belonged to a dear friend of mine who unexpectedly passed away and when her family asked if I'd like it, I said "yes," even though I've never been much of a TV watcher. Over the years since then, I've really been glad on some occasions to have this additional way of connecting with the world beyond just going online...

There is some absolutely amazing TV content available when you need to escape. Fargo, Hacks, Acapulco, The Bear, Ted Lasso, ...

Getting ready to leave for Europe tomorrow!

I actually have a dentist appointment in a few hours, but I scheduled it for today so I could get it over with before leaving for a while. I'll be visiting a few countries with my family (including Portugal, Italy, and the Netherlands), and then I will be traveling with a couple friends later next month. The university I attend doesn't start fall classes until late in September, so I have some time to enjoy several weeks out of the country.

And then in January I'll begin studying abroad (also in Europe). I have a lot of travel on the docket, but I'm looking forward to it all. (And well, given what's been going on, a part of me is relieved to be out of the U.S. for a while).

That’s really cool! I’ll be going to Europe myself over Christmas. My university doesn’t start until September either, but I won’t be traveling anywhere out of the country this summer. I DO need to figure out what to do for spring break next year though... maybe that can involve international travel.

On another note, I just shattered my screen protector this morning, so that’s lovely. Luckily it can be easily replaced.

Oh! @VisceralRealist, I guess I've never asked--what are you studying?

My major is comparative literature, but I've also taken many courses in linguistics and history and am thinking of declaring a second major (I'll mainly be taking history courses abroad). I've always been more a man of letters than a man of science/math. :p

There doesn’t seem to be much food by my gate, unfortunately. Hopefully I can stick it out till I land this evening. My flight boards in an hour

That’s neat!! I have never been a good STEM student either. In fact, some of you might remember that I nearly failed high school calculus. Though I have to choose a second field of study (since the program is a 50/50 split), so something in the humanities might be interesting.

As far as studying abroad for me, it might be a bit tricky to find something specific to what I want. Though the Conservatorium von Amsterdam (hope I’m spelling that right) is a popular spot for people at my university who want to study music.

Cars are on my mind. Looking at getting a "new" one. I've seen 2 at the moment within my price range. Would you choose one with 8,000 miles on the clock, or a nicer car but with 41,000 on it? I'm not really into cars so not sure which to choose?

Depends on the car. Personally I always avoid the base model. 41k isn’t that many miles.

Cars are on my mind too....my existing car is getting my attention since it needs to be "smogged", as we say around here. For those unfamiliar with the term, that means having the exhaust tested to see if what's coming out is within the state's standards
