We got 5” rain in 24 hours, due to hurricane Beryl remnants .
Never in 22 years here that much rain.

No flooding for our home, but this tree fell on driveway mid afternoon today.

Been raining here all morning

two more brutal assassinations occurred in the spring of 1968: Martin Luther King in April of that year and Robert F. Kennedy in June.

I was in position to shake Kennedy's hand in his motorcade but was knocked out of position by someone running by his car (convertible). Hours later he was gone.

We got 5” rain in 24 hours,

Lucky you - no wildfire smoke! Although maybe not ....

On my mind right now: I am a bug bounty hunter on the side and I am happy because I am helping governments secure their services for public administration etc.

Today I got approved a report for a vulnerability I found in the e-voting system of a EU country that allowed me to corrupt other voters' votes. With this I am helping them improve the security of such an important service for their citizens. (Yeah, you can't really trust e-voting systems much unfortunately).

This is the third vulnerability I find in a couple of months involving government services.

Since the beginning of the year I have made some nice cash in bug bounties working on this in my free time on some evening and weekends. If it weren't because of the uncertainty of the income, I would probably try to do this full time and see what I manage to accomplish in one year, but it's risky as I have a family so for now I am keeping my day job.

One of our states (NSW, I think) tried electronic voting for a minor election, and decided it was too flakey to bother with. We persist with paper ballots.

This is my official, Government-issued Voting Pencil --

I can, if I want use my own pen, and if I did so, I would use a permanently permanent ink like Noodler's (Bulletproof) Black, or the Armageddon-proof Kung Te-Cheng. Sadly, the more appropriate ink, Noodler's Violet Vote, has apparently been discontinued.

Went on a nice hike today, which I desperately needed. Glad I finally got the opportunity to do it. Then I head out west tomorrow afternoon!
Nothing is a good for the soul as spending time outdoors in nature. It brings joy to my heart being out and seeing wildlife in it’s natural habitat.

I try and do it every day (weather permitting).

I have hiked more since we moved to AZ last summer than I had since I was in Boy Scouts. Of course, not right now as it is too hot.

So we take the SXS up into the mountains where it is significantly cooler and see nature that way.

I'm thinking of a luxury item that I want to purchase when I turn 50, which is 9 years from now. It's very extravagant, but it is a milestone piece i'd love to own in my lifetime, My wife and I have a savings rate at about 80% of our gross, which includes our retirement, investments, savings goals and emergency fund. 10% goes to my daily miscellaneous spending, the other 10% I plan to set aside for this item.

Lastly, do I save this in a HYSA, or do I put it in a brokerage, invest in VTSAX and hope for the best?

It’s like going to church, a natural church, it makes me feel wondrous, part of something greater. I truly missing running though the green trails where I currently live (knees, back). I have a little patch of woods behind our house I like tending, mostly battling the vines several times a year. 🙂

Church without the condemnation and collection plate though….

Here I’m two days into a three day show. Been on my feet all day. Then get back to the hotel and go for a swim and a run in the gym.
Now sipping a cold drink waiting for unhealthy food to arrive. I’m sure I’ll regret that when next weeks weigh in comes around.

That’s why I added “natural” to the description. 😁

I feel much the same way about ancient cathedrals and monasteries, even some of the ruined ones, some of which you will find in rural areas.

There is a lovely atmosphere of - or, sense of - benevolent tranquility surrounding them, which I think (or consider) a sort of food for the soul.

Agreed. A ruined monastery or castle is probably my favourite location for a bit of photography etc.

Enjoying my chilled-ish Sunday before a busy week. Flying to Amsterdam in the morning for a meeting and then driving to Munster in Germany with a colleague for 2 days of my meetings before heading back to Amsterdam to fly home on Thursday. It’s going to be a busy few days which I could really do without. A colleague has promised us some excellent German beer which i’ll happily take him up on.

That should soften the blow. I’ve just done a three day show. Off for the next week. Off to see my Mum tomorrow unless she cancels.

Currently sat in the hotel bar with the Euro final build up.

Watched the Scottish Open and made up for Bob Macintyre who finally wins the one he really wanted to.
Now watching the England game and it's not looking good...
What is looking good is a 3 day week for me as off on Thursday and Friday (yes, to watch the Open from Royal Troon!!).

This is why I prefer old fashioned non-electronic devices for some things. My daily job is working with complicated technology and sometimes I see things that are tech for the sake of it rather than being better.

Spent an hour in the office gym. They had morning TV on (which I never watch).
The only stories were
Trump shooting
England losing in Germany
Something to do with strictly comes dancing.
Some Royal or other at Wimbledon

Rinse, repeat.

I had my music on. But it reminded me why I don’t watch much TV.

My folks got a huge new TV a few months ago, and I can say I haven't watched a single thing on it. It's currently mounted to the living room wall, which honestly looks disgusting. I mean, to be fair, we don't have much other space for it (since each member of the household has their own office space, there aren't really any spare rooms).

And our house is not very big (1500 sq ft), so I can't completely drown out the sound of awful shows.

Sorry to read this, well of course awful is a value judgment to an extent. As a new junky, I appreciate having news apps and also watch on my large screen TV, though I do streaming like most folks, Netflix, Disney Plus and Crunchyroll. I have to be careful with the volume living in an apartment building.
