Thank you! Yes, I am doing a lot better now than a few weeks ago, that's for sure. My trip out west REALLY helped--really made me remember that there's really nothing to worry about in the end.
If you don’t mind me asking, where did you end up going?

Not at all!! I went to Portland, Oregon to visit a relative. The Chamber Music Festival was happening, so we went to a lot of concerts.
That sounds like an amazing time. Only been to Oregon once (on a high school trip so in ancient times before the wall fell) but quite liked it.

I live in Oregon, but I'm on the east side (rural Oregon). It is a beautiful state with so much to offer especially if you are into any kind of outdoor sport, but right now we have several forest fires burning close to us. It jumped the freeway last night and the freeway had to be closed for many hours. Now the wind has picked up, plus our temperatures have been in the 90s and 100s so that's fueling this fire that is already at over 100,000 acres. Lightening strikes keep adding to the problem as well. The smoke in the air is terrible; fortunately I haven't had the need to go out in it yet. My daughter has a bag packed in case we are evacuated but I think she is panicking a little too soon.

Sounds stressful. Good luck with it all. I’m glad we don’t have earthquakes, tornadoes and large scale forest fires over here.

I don’t understand why employees don’t push their chair in, when they are finished in the break room.

Ugh…
I don’t understand why most don’t use the break room as you call it (we call it a canteen) and eat at their desk instead.

Personally I always go for a walk in the park opposite, then have my lunch.

Not to sway the break room/canteen conversation. But, I feel the youth/Gen Y & Gen Z, are more of a solo act. They don’t seem to mingle, period.

I can barely get some of them at work, to simply say morning when they see someone for the first time in the morning. Ugh…

Bingo! I don’t know the names of any of my colleagues partners (or if they even have one) for most of my colleagues under 30. Over 30, I know the name of their partner, what they do for a living and probably the names of their kids.

Made it to Telluride in Colorado, for one last hurrah before half my family has to go back to school (my mom and I do not).

It’s a nice place, I’d recommend visiting if you like mountain resort towns. Hopefully there are good hiking trails.

I’m very shy, but at least I say hi to people! Sorta rude to just walk in somewhere and not say anything.

I received some not-so-great news this morning… One of my high school teachers—perhaps the best one I ever had—was diagnosed with cancer. Idk if it’s right to call the school, but I am tempted to. She is possibly the kindest person I’ve ever known, and is clearly passionate for teaching. I don’t know precisely what her condition is, but I would be devastated if something happened…

That is why we tell our daughter (24) they she will have no trouble keeping a job. As it is now, she is the one in the building at 7 with the execs so when an all-hands meeting is called, she is sitting in the room with all the "brass". She said it made her nervous at first, but after two years, it is normal. One morning after one of these meetings, they took her to breakfast.

She is also the only one at her level with a keycard that lets her in the office after hours. This happened after one of the execs noticed her sitting in her car 15 minutes before the building opened. He took her on up and later called her to his office and let her know her card now worked after hours.

It seems to be really easy to stand out when are willing to actually do what you are supposed to.

...this is brilliant. Congratulations to her, I hope she stays on the same trajectory.

People may have mentioned that Australia is full of nasty, bitey things, including various plants that are out to get you.

However...

We also have some of the ultra-, uber-, cutest animals on the planet. Evah!!!

I thought there might be some value in a general topic-less thread to share random thoughts, ideas, and personal news that aren’t otherwise thread-worthy.

So, within compliance of applicable federal laws, regulations, and Community Discussion rules: what’s on your mind?
[doublepost=1536426505][/doublepost]Yesterday I attended a Naturalization Ceremony for forty-one American citizens.

In 1776 the population of America was roughly 2,500,000.
Today its 325,700,000 and 41.

This is the second ceremony I’ve attended. Both were moving. I was a bit disappointed with yesterday’s speakers but it was a pleasure being in attendance to honor these new citizens.

Yes, I actually read some of the first posts in this thread. The first one reminded me of my naturalization ceremony in Belgium, the one I didn't have, the one no one has. I applied for my citizenship once eligible, then 3 months later I find a letter in my post box. Come fetch your new citizen ID card. So I went to get it, lady just slides it over the counter with a bland look on her face, just another day at the office, I signed for it, and walked out onto the steps of the city hall, alone. No red carpet, no ceremony of any kind. No one gave a continental flying.....so I went to the local and had a few by myself. Wife was at work. Probably one of my biggest anticlimaxes ever.

In case anyone is wondering, Belgium is right up there as one of the most valuable passports in the world. Citizenship here is handled on a case by case basis.

I was SO CLOSE to getting scammed last night—it was crazy! An Instagram follower’s account got hacked. Thought it was genuine because he’s a friend irl. Then I realized the entire account was hacked. It was a long night.

EDIT: Got to the point this morning (with three more scams) that I’ve just set my account to private. Hate to do it, but idk how else to deal with it.

…at least with it being private, you have control. Good luck with everything.
