I repaired my 1/2 horsie Craftsman garage door motor with a new cog assembly. Then I lubed up the brake cables n shifter linkage and put new pedals on my sons monkey bike. After a good scrub with some Dawn, now I'm wondering how will I get the smell of garage door chain grease, Tri-flow and silicone grease off of my hands.
You don't wear nitrite/latex gloves while doing repair work that involves a lot of grease or oil? That's wild, man. It's cheaper to toss the gloves than to de-grease and clean my hands. I can't imagine how long it would take.😬

My wife won't come near me if I sink of grease.😶‍🌫️ I wear cheap 5mil gloves when doing a simple task like replacing a pickup roller on one of the office laser printer. Toner is toxic. And there's some grease on the gears. And years of accumulated dust.😕 They bought a new printer and I gave me the old one. For 30 minutes of work and a $2 part, I got myself a functioning laser printer.

Folks pretend that gloves (latex/nylon/nitrile) are these impenetrable, untearable, unbreakable barriers of protection. It is amusing that you’d assume I wasn’t wearing gloves.

It’s perfectly acceptable to wear gloves 🧤 when working with dirty and hazardous chemicals and handling toxic substances.

However, if you need to operate any machinery, you must remove your gloves. There’s a risk that they could get caught in the moving parts.

Played for the swing dance club last night for their event held at the end of each term, which was AWESOME! Piano, bass, drums, and trombone—just played jazz standards. We sounded tighter and swung harder than even some veteran jazz groups I've played with. All classmates of mine though. That bass player is going to graduate though, idk what we'll do without him, his playing is impeccable.

I'm considering picking up some software development I was doing over ten years ago.

Since I'm not working at a job, but only helping the older couple here in the house, I'm trying to make use of my time not thinking of all the nonsense happening.

I also need to get my brain working in multiple areas, to avoid deterioration. Without daily conversation and interaction, it's difficult to stay steady. I could end up a social influencer, just talking to phone or something. 😁

That's a good idea. Which language(s) would you start with and why?

I was already working in C++ and I probably need to see the latest standard specifications. Most of what I had was data and object related. I was making it fairly easy to switch to Java and I should probably make sure it could be switched to C#. I always tried to make my code at the top easy to convert and hid the machine-specific bits toward the bottom layers.

To me, there are times to be more specific with a language, especially to be more secure, but embracing the abstract keeps the code flexible and platform independent.

It is March, why are there 5 inches of snow on the ground?! And it's continuing to fall.
Because it can snow until April.

Not had any here this year. Frosty morning and sunny days here for the last week. Had more frosts this week than the rest of winter put together.

Which reminds me I need to set the departure time in the car so it’s nice and defrosted for when I leave in the morning.

It's Wisconsin. Be glad you're not further north where it ends up being colder.

I lived in an area along I-70 and U.S. 40 in Indiana and Ohio where it would thaw during the day and freeze during the night and we'd have ice every day.

Yesterday [Tuesday] made an appointment to take my dog to the vet. For a non-emergency the soonest appointment was Thursday morning. This afternoon [Wednesday] (in the pouring rain) the vet called to let me know they had an immediate opening if I want to come in right away. Guess no one wants to take their dog in during a rain storm.

We have a cyclone coming, which intends to deluge about 1000 km (500-odd miles) of coastline and inland, from mid-north New South Wales to the northern end of southern Queensland.

Rain up to 600 mm (3 feet). Winds up to 150 kph. Storm surge of 1 metre, on top of the high tide.
20,000 people in immediate danger, with possibly 1 million having property damage. Not counting livestock, crop losses.

The weather gurus are trying hard not to say it will make landfall on Brisbane, by saying it will land between Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. What's in the middle? Brisbane.

Because of the way the winds are going, most of the rain will be in northern NSW, but the winds will be in QLD.

Very slightly-related story: I was the OIC for the Tech Engineering Flight at the 321st Missile Wing, Grand Forks AFB (Minuteman III) from '92 to '95. We had a Fault at one missile site that required removing a large cable from what's called the "A-circuit", part of the Security system. It took removing 28 very small brass screws to release the cable, normally no big deal but this was topside on a day when it was -24º F (true temperature, no wind whatsoever).
We could not even use a small screwdriver, much less hang on to those 3/16" brass screws, with our gloves on. First guy jumped out of the truck and got 3 screws removed before he/she couldn't feel their fingers anymore, and they jumped back in the truck to warm up their hands. Next guy took the screwdriver, jumped out, and got the next three or so screws out. It took us a couple hours just to remove that cable, and our part of the repair was complete.
The fault turned out to be a broken wire in that cable, buried between the A-plug and the circuitry on the Cop's side, so the cable had to be pulled out. I can't remember how long the cable was, nor how deep it was buried, I'd guess 10' long, buried up to 4 feet down. They had to post two cops at that missile site 24-7 to handle security, from then until the cable finally thawed out enough to be pulled, which didn't happen until June! Grand Forks North Dakota is a miserable environment; I learned/grew a lot during my 3 years there, but will NEVER go back.

Uhhh yeah.

It’s also super windy
Surprised that some middle schools still do recess. You guys don’t do 6-7 periods of classes?

Wow, congrats on retiring from Nissan, my friend! You totally deserve it. You worked on so many incredible projects in the automotive industry, and you were even an engineer at Apple between GM and Nissan. I’m so glad you had a lot of experience as a leader in your field. I can’t wait to hear all about your new adventures! I already finished my first internship and job at NASA a month ago, and still continually looking for work.

So it was really freezing outside and you guys had to wear thick gloves to fix the circuit? Wow I can imagine how frigid it is! How many days in South Dakota is that super cold?! 🥶
