I lived at home and commuted to college, but I recall every week there was at least one--often times multiple--reports of food poisoning at the on campus dining hall. My buddies and I had a pool to guess how many students would get sick that week. I always picked 3 or 4 [if available] and won 20-25% of the time. This was back in the 90's.
You sure it was food poisoning, not alcohol poisoning? I had a fair amount of that when I was a student!

100% positive it was food poisoning unless the campus newspapers was making false claims. The catering company improved thing over the years. By my final year, food poisoning--or the reports of food poisoning--had dropped to 2-3 cases a month.

Just learned that my elementary school--specifically the building housing the special education program--was broken into. All the classrooms were trashed, as well as some offices. Who would have the urge to not only break into a school, but also target their actions towards people who need extra help?! The staff there did so much for me when I was young, so to learn that someone decided to vandalize that building (and indeed, the school itself) is particularly saddening.

I'm still in touch with folks there, so that's the only reason I learned about this.

EDIT: Whelp, looks like this made the news, and it doesn't look good. (I guess you guys can learn more of my secrets by looking at the news if you really want to). Beginning to think this was done out of pure hatred, I can't think of another reason why someone would vandalize a school for students with special needs.

The university here in town is infamous for food poisoning. I know at least three people, who, on three separate occasions, suffered from it after eating in the dining hall there.

Only times I've ever gotten food poisoning have been after eating at fast food restaurants.

I don't mind the phone touch screens, I actually enjoy them. However, I went to test drive the new Model 3 from Tesla, and they have REMOVED the stalks for the turn signal/wipers AND they have now required you to use the touch screen to put it in gear. 🤦‍♂️

I was dead set on purchasing one but I cannot support change for the sake of change, especially at the expense of safety.
Needing to touch the screen to change gears is VERY dangerous. What happens when it inevitably fails?!

I would suspect it was some former students or a sibling of a student. Sad but it is often the case.

It is. Thankfully it isn't permanent--they've begun to clean things up from the looks of it. It is, of course, still devastating to see.

I actually don't know, but certainly possible.

We have all seen Youtubes of little babies being exposed to classical music and operas.
Here is something a little different.

(BTW, You have to click on the Youtube link)

Interesting. I've never understood the appeal to those types of videos, personally, but that's just me. But I'm also very uncultured, so my opinion is probably irrelevant.

Wow sorry to hear this, a really scummy thing to do.

Horrible, vicious, and thuggish.

Very sorry to hear this, a horrible thing to do (and to want to do).

Actually - and I write as someone who spent decades in education as both teacher and student - I cannot begin to imagine why anyone would wish to thrash a school, college, or any place where learning is encouraged, supported and facilitated.

I have experienced the very definition of "online activation hell" today. I have a license of a music program that I forgot to deactivate when I sold my M1 MacBook Air. Tried to activate it on my new computer and it didn't work, because it still thinks a license exists on the M1... which... has been fully wiped and sold.

I've contacted support, so we'll see on Monday whether or not I'm screwed.

They will sort it out for you! I had a similar issue with Final Cut Pro! They reset my license and it worked perfectly.

On a separate note, I am so grateful for computers. I know they take a lot from us, but they also give us so much. Not only would I be out of work without them, but I have never been as fascinated by anything else as I am with computers.

Good luck.

I'm equally grateful for computers, - and am in awe of the transformational nature of the tech revolution - but I am also mindful of - what is to my mind - the extraordinary (and unaccountable) nature of the power of social media platforms, and their potential for considerable harm.

Agreed! It's why I don't plan to join any more social media platforms anytime soon... I'm sure all my personal information has already been given to all these companies, no need to give it to more corporations. Plus, I don't really feel any reason to join any more platforms.

Got pressured into joining BlueSky a few months ago, but since no one uses it, I deleted my account.

On a related note, got Sonoma on the 2013 11" MacBook Air, which is pretty awesome!

I was recently invited to join an orchestra. When I found out they were communicating via Whatsapp, I immediately declined, since I have no intention whatsoever to create any "social" media account.

People think I’m strange not being on WhatsApp. You know what I don’t care. Recently someone suggested a WhatsApp group for something for work. I said no thank you.

Being cultured is overrated, IMO. Look at a petri dish. It's full of culture and breeding, but makes everybody sick.😏

While I love opera, I'm not a fan of individual singers, except the greatest Soprano of all time, Tony😂. J/K. Seriously though, it's Maria Callas.
